  1. I didnt vote because it's not a simple yes or no answer. Ally certainly has the credentials and has acted with dignity throughout his entire managerial career here. I'm. Happy to give him a while longer

In my mind the focus in training is what's needed to change. The coaching staff need to focus on ball work, pressing opponents and attacking movement.

Longer training hours is a must and someone with new ideas behind the scenes helping the team develop. We've been behind European teams for years and it needs to change

  2. Right Guys I spoke to my Stepson is a Chef who works in the DW Stadium at Wigan , and he speaks to Martinez regularly .

He says they are in by 08.30 am, a bit of light Breakfast, and on the Pitch for around 09.30, he says they are Training until around 14.30 .That's 5 Days a Week .Says if they Draw or get Beat no Day off, if its a Win then its next Day off.

I asked him what type of training, and he says Martinez mainly concentrates on Ball work as well as some Phys.

He says Martinez is a bit of a Ball skill freak, and Tactics are covered in that too. But mainly Skills Technique. So that's 5 Hours a Day 5 Times a Week .All very structured .

It would appear to me that some of the Youth are picking up poor standards of Technique Training , and if you want to compete at the Top of your Game /Sport you must develop the Techniques to be that .

Its one thing Running but running, and Dribbling with a Ball is different .Some of our guys cant even take Free Kicks .

You have to Practice your Craft otherwise you will get Skill Fade .

firstly - thanks for this, good insight

secondly - fuck me!!! That wouldn't surprise me to be fair - I've watched wigan alot the last few years and they've ALWAYS retained possession well and focussed on movement. I've read most of this topic and agree with the majority of posts - we're missing a major opportunity to focus our game on ball rentention, movement and tactics.

The tactics are non existent sometimes and fitness can only get you so far, we need a system in place that focuses on a pressing game with short sharp passing.

What I don't understand, is it's clear for EVERYONE to see that we are miles behind European teams in terms of technique and tactic implementation, but if we focus on running all day (which we supposedly do) why are they fitter than us too? We should run and press teams of the park.... But we sit off and look jaded !!!

A new coaching approach is needed 

  3. Aint rocket science Ian.

    You're right (tu)

Black was one of the better ones to be fair to him, but still a long way off what was expected. I think his statement is pretty sincere. It hurts us but it'll hurt them as pro's. ... But fuck me!!! Pass and Move boys!!!!

Lets see how they react next week (tu)

  4. Far too soon to judge (tu) ( this season alone, I think we should discount some aspects of last season and it hasn't been an easy start this season either - hardly any prepeartion time. But i still expect better than todays showing)

But we need to rip up the old tactic book and come into the 21st century. If he fails to improve the standard of play then Charles may have to make a bold move.

We have to play smart - teams will give 100% against us and the way to beat them is to keep the ball and move them around.

    Edited - Bit inside brackets

  5. Taking today's result out the equation the most disappointing thing for me so far this season has been our style of play. One of the things I thought this season would give us was the opportunity to promote an expansive style of play and produce a style of football, away from the pressure of the old-firm, that would be pleasing on the eye. Unfortunately the football so far has been (for the most part) awful.

Look at Swansea a club who were in the 3rd tier of English football. They ripped up the old fashioned approach to the game (something we seem hampered with) and from their youths up decided to develop a certain way to play. Within 5 years they were a premiership club and are now one of the most entertaining teams to watch in Britain, and they haven't done anything out of the ordinary or spent a fortune to do it. All they did was play a simple progressive passing game which is built from the back, making angles and playing in triangles. So simple but look how effective it is. Now there is absolutely no reason...especially at this level that we cant adopt a similar approach. I was screaming at my TV today every time Alexander had the ball as every time it was just a punt up the park which was awful to watch. Berwick had one man up top so the full backs should always have been coming short and building from the back, making their forward work and creating space for our midfielders to get on the ball.

I dont want to blame Ally and based on his post match interview he wasn't happy with our passing etc but every time alexander had it not once did anyone look for the ball, they all jogged up to the half way line and waited for a big percentage ball up to Sandaza which didn't come off once. The only time in the game we looked dangerous was when we passed the ball quickly in and around their box just after the equalizer before going back to the long ball tactic. And you know what it would take us time to get used to playing a passing game and we may drop points but I am sure most of us would accept that if the performances were pleasing and showing promise over today where the players didnt seem to be enjoying the game at all.

I really feel not only are we missing out on the chance to completely redesign our style of play but we ultimately will be turning folk off from paying their money to watch. I was watching the game today with my mum's partner, who to be fair is a Rugby man, but keen on Rangers and after an hour he sacked it and to be honest I couldn't blame him. I just can't see us filling Ibrox in the winter months if the product is of this quality.

I desperately want Ally to be successful as our manager but we need to totally change our style of play and start playing players in their natural positions. Football is an entertainment business at the end of the day and we need to make the entertainment on the park as opposed to solely coming from our wonderful fans who were brilliant again today..As always!!!

    Correct (tu)

Almost every post in the Bears Den was optimistic about a new brand of fottball possibly being intoduced.

We may be rusty, but if we tried to play a passing game and got beat due to a lack of match sharpness there wouldn't be this split between bears.

Everyoe is behind the team and we all love Ally and Rangers - but it NEEDS to change. Scottish Fopotball is a bawhair away from the dark ages and we can change it by playing better and more attractive football and rising to the top once more :21:

  6. It's August FFS

Man Utd lost to Everton first game and could barely make a chance. Should they completely change everything coz of a bad performance/result in the first fucking weeks of a season?

    AUGUST 26TH

FFS The season has barely started, one which we had 1 MONTH to prepare for, and you are all happy to criticize and condemn. No offence But you sound like fenians.

It wouldn't matter if it was August or fucking Xmas day - I still expect players to be able to hold onto the ball and pass and move (tu)

I know it's early and I was happy to put alot of that performance down to rustiness and a new team trying to learn each other's ways. But fuck me! PASS the ball - don't hump it (tu)

  7. bollocks. If we'd lost today and McCoist had played a passing game and refused to change it then he would be getting hammered for not changing his tactics.

So you think he was right to stick with the pump up the park when clearly that wasn't working? A ball on the ground splitting the defence is the way to go when we have quicker fitter players at our disposal... (supposedly quicker and fitter)

It's all about opinions but for the life of me I can't see why we didn't try it once (tu)

Edit to say we did do it - once. It was the ball through by Mckay to Sandaza who missed when one-on-one with the keeper. Our best bit of play. It was penetrating and crisp and we got the chance of the game out of it... but we didn't try it again

  8. He may not like it, but he's not doing much to better the situation. What is differen't between this statement and the one from Peterhead?

I really hope he does get it right, i really do...but i've heard this before unfortunatley.

    (tu)

  9. I just simply can't agree with any of that.

Rangers are my team and I'll turn up every week to follow them (tu) It's my love of Rangers that makes me say this :h34rt:

What baffles me is our inability to retain possession against part-timers and move them round whilst we penetrate their defenses. If you can't encourage that as a coach or a player then you don't deserve to be classed as a proffessional.

    Basic stuff

  10. It's a virtue that will come with patience.

    Touche (tu)

But my point still stands - I expected a bedding in period but put simply, the basics of football will NEVER change. A simple ability to control the ball and pass and we would have won today. At times we struggled to keeep the ball for more than two or three passes.

I wouldn't mind if we played that badly but tried to play the proper way rather than just accepting defeat and smashing balls up the park (tu)

  11. does that mean we should accept getting pumped off man und barca in europe because their players earn 200k a week?

It's certainly alot more acceptable. Plus they have tactics and top class facilities and can keep control of a football match. Berwick have to wait until their gaffer finishes his shift at Greggs before taking training

  12. Exactly. I've yet to see any well respected European team resort to long balls for 90 minutes.

''Mmmmmm, Kenny, this long ball hasn't worked for the first 60 minutes.... Any ideas? ''

'' errrr.... Mmmm... I know, lets stick Kyle on and play MORE long balls?''

''BRILLIANT!!!! Kev? get stripped son, you're going on''

    :anguish:

  13. Put simply - a lack of match sharpness or fitness is no excuse for a lack of tactics or implementation of tactics.

At times we struggled to knock the ball 5 yards - I don't see what another three weeks of bounce games and running would do to solve that (tu)

  14. It's my love for Rangers that makes me say the following things - Fuck me, we can't all put our head in the sand - Things need to change - We've said it all summer - now is the chance for Ally and the coaching staff to improve our play.

Why persist with the hump up the park? It didn't work the first 50 times why would it work the next 50 times.

I'd love to get into the tactics room at Ibrox. What are we teaching these boys every day? The coaching staff are either not doing their job right or the players just ignore them. We have zero things to be proud of today. If we don't learn that keeping the ball on the deck and keeping possession is better in EVERY single way to a pump up the park then I'm dismayed. Throw-in's aswell - CHRIST!!!!!!

Modern football should be played with quick passing and movement and possession, we had none of that today. We've said it all summer - look at the posts in the Bears Den. We need to reshape our play. Semi Pro's in the Third division can handle pumps up the park - what they can't handle is quick sharp passing and movement.

I hope the entire team and managemnt get rockets. Lets work on pasing and moevemnt Ally. I'm desperate for you to be our greatest ever manager and we want to see you do well. Lets seriously think about keeping it on the deck (tu)

  15. Lack of pre season? Berwick have a fucking lack of ability, training facilities, full time players, any tactical nous and yet they loooked far more accomplished than we did.

WHy persist with the hump up the park? It didn't work the first 50 times why would it work the next 50 times.

I'd love to get into the tactics room at Ibrox. What are we teaching these boys every day? The coaching staff are either not doing their job right or the players just ignore them.

    Fuck me!!!! :anguish:

  16. Rank from start to finish

How many times does it need to be said and how many more times do we need to say it - modern football is a possession game with quick passing and MOVEMENT!!! We stood around like fucking clowns.

Why persist with the hump up the park? It was clear after the firts 50 attempts that it wasn't working yet we still tried it :anguish: Not only that - These Third Diviosn mugs fucking love a hump up the park - the two centre halfs were in their element. A frightening way to set up.

If the instruction before the game was to hoof the ball up to Sandaza that is fucking outrageous. We have said it all summer - it gives us a chance to focus on football and re-shape our play. but here we are with the exact same problems.

We made a distictively average Berwick side look fucking quick and hungry..... Truth be told they are pish but we are worse.

  17. Doesn't hurt me in the slightest.

Sure at the time I was reelin' and would quite kindly qued up for hours to smash every single finger with a hammer then work on his knee... Not because he left, but because he claimed we are no longer Rangers. What a arrogant money grabbing tit.

But thinking back, It's not worth the angst - If he was a Rangers man he wouldn't have jumped ship the way he did. In my mind Steven Naismith never played for Rangers and should be forgotten and wiped from memory. The best way to hurt him is to act like he never played for this great club :wanker:

  18. The way to succeed at any level is to keep the ball. If we have it, they cannot score.

I agree with this (tu) It's the same at every level though - not just Divison 3 (tu)

Any hint of professionalism and proper tactics/training we should be able to keep the ball and split defenses open. These part time teams will work hard and make it difficult for us, but with a bit of ball retention and nice crisp passing with attacking movement and one-two's they will NOT be able to handle it ... Christ, most proffessional teams struggle with quick passing so it should be even more a priority the fact that we're playing boys who train twice a week.

On the winger side of things - we need one asap. There were days when Scottish wingers were in abundence and we were renowned world over for quick and tricky wingers.... We need a creative spark - Boys like Mckay and Shiels have it but they both play narrow in the number 10 role.

Plenty time to get one in :21:

  19. Good news (tu)

Gives us a bit more cover if Boca or Goian do leave. At 24 he still has a good few years ahead of him and can improve, at that age he should be looking for first team football. Anyone seen him play? I hope he has a bit of pace as I think we are lacking that at the back (tu)

Wonder if the other trialists have impressed enough to earn deals? Anyone know when the trial deals are supposed to end? They've all been in for over a week I think?

  20. Mols trying not to hurt the keeper rather than just fall on him was what did the damage not the tackle.

    Mmmmm....Michael Mols :h34rt::love::wub:

Still a cracking player when he came back - Easily the best all round striker we've had (tu)

Those first few games he was outstanding. What a player... Do you think Green or any of his investors have tampered with cloning?

I'm sure he had a son? I bought the Mols DVD and he was knocking the ball around in the garden with his son (tu) ... His Mrs must of been edited out as I can't remember her being in it

Get young Mols in for a trial!!
