  1. Still think that Dado and Boyd combination is weaker than the Novo /Boyd combination. Also I think the style of play we will play will involve more hitting on the break as in the nineties and as today with us using the wide areas and I am afraid that Dado tries but his legs have gone.

Id agree with that mate, I love big dado but i think Nacho gives us great options. We looked really slow upfront until novo came on, then his pace caused all sorts of problems for United who tried to defend very high up the park.

I think Boyd needs a quick player up there with him, otherwise teams can defend high up the park forcing us into our own half. Novo has been great this season, i hope he stays as he offers us a great number of options. Even if he is only a squad player i think having him on the bench is always a good thing to have.

  2. Barry Ferguson captains a team, who are pretty much the same squad as previous weeks, leads them to a 5-0 victory and gets on the scoresheet.

How that proves PLG right is anyones guess.

Because he played in the role that PLG asked him to play and the team played well because of it. How does that not prove that he was right?

I still think Smith had the time more organized than PLG ever did but on in terms of who was right and who was wrong it was barry who was wrong. As ive stated he wouldnt dare to play any other way than smith asks him to, he just didnt have that fear/respect for PLG and so played the way he wanted to.

to be fair, i dont see that there was many players who had respect for plg.

They didnt but Barry should have played how he was asked to play, all he did was further fuck up the situation by playing out of position. Im happy we have a manager like Smith in, i think someone like him is required with the old firm. PLG simply didnt realise what being a gaffer of rangers ment, he wasnt a fan and i think that a team of our standing needs a manager who is passionate about the club.

  3. 2) A dundee Utd fan not been allowed to leave in the 87 minute got a good laugh from the Broomlan stand

    explain!

away fans not allowed leaving till after the final whistle??

Its because we havent won that often at home this season, we want witnesses to prove it

  5. Id agree with that report, although i do think the reason Murray played better in the second half was because samuel moved upfront. Sebo also looked good when he came on and was unlucky not to score from that great run from the half way line.

  6. I think your all giving Alba a bit of a hard time here, to be honest what he has stated has been true. Part of the problem when Le guen being the coach was that Ferguson didnt play far enough forward despite being asked to.

Barry Ferguson wouldnt dare go against Smiths gameplan and because of that we are going to see a better player and a better team. PLG didnt make a stance quick enough, although to be honest where else in the world is one player bigger than an entire team? I think it was a bit of a culture shock that he couldnt adjust to.

I like Barry and im glad he is back as captain but i do think the way he has played this season has effected the rest of the team. Today Hemdani took the ball out of defence and we played better because of it. I think that was Smiths doing, as Svensson also seemed to be drifiting behind hemdani aswell which is something we havent seen of him this season. PLG wanted Clement as the holding player and barry as the attacking, barry didnt trust clement or PLG enough and the gameplan didnt work because of that.

I will however state that part of the reason we won 5-0 today was that United played with a really high defensive line that Novo exploited time after time. That along with the decision to move samuel from the right of midfield is what lost them the game in such dramatic fashion.

Anyway as ive stated and as you have all seen this season, when Barry plays further forward we play better. This was Alba's point and i believe he is correct.

  7. To be honest Samuel got the better of him in the first half and really looked a threat on the right hand side. In the second half Samuel got moved upfront and was ineffective. Murray was decent in the second half and put in a good cross for his second assist in two games.

Dont be fooled though, he is no where near the quality of Steven Smith at left back. He got ripped apart by Morrison against Dunfermline and i think Samuel was united's best player in the first half with his runs and crosses. Murray really struggled against him and i think he needs many more games before he is back to his best.

One thing i have noticed is that he can suddenly use his right foot since he came back. He used it more than his left foot today, which i found strange.

  8. what today proved beyond any doubt is that 666 is indeed a pervasive influence in the dressing room

Unless he gets his way the spoiled brat will not allow the team to perform.

Today he wqas pushed into a forward role, today he was not permitted to come back and dictate play, and today rangers were a better TEAM because the spoiled brat did not get things his own way on the field.

oh and by the way 666 was a better player for it as well.

Exactly, he played his position and the team played better because of it. Smith is known for going through players for not doing as he asks of them, Ferguson wont go against Smiths Gameplan and because of that the team will benefit.

To be honest, i dont think we really need a captain. Ally was doing great today shouting out orders and giving players encouragement. Barry wasnt his usual moany self which helped the team relax and play football.

Could having a positive voice on the sideline be what we have missed? Only time will tell...

  9. It was a good decision purley because Smith wont allow him to do anything other than what he asks of him. If you look at how we played today it was different due to the roles played by Hemdani, Clement and Ferguson.

Hemdani often pushed forward with the ball, which allowed Clement to get further forward and Ferguson was then free to roam around and get into attacking positions. In the end he scored and made some good runs into the box.

Ferguson now has McCoist on the sideline barking out orders, this let Ferguson get on with his game and he played well because of it. Frankly i dont think Ferguson would dare play a different role than that asked of him by Smith, so it will work.

    Anyone else agree/disagree with this?

  10. Its a good idea as it allows you to see much more of the game. My seat at ibrox is pretty high up and i get a good overview of the game as i can see players making runs. When your on the ground you can only see so much of the game, this way he can tell Ally his instructions and watch them unfold.

Craig Brown used to do a similar thing with Scotland.

  11. I think its just down to the fact he has stated how big a Celtic fan he is, which makes him an easy target for our fans. I saw him and Barry having a laugh as the teams came back out so i dont think there is a problem with them.

Its the sort of thing that has happened at Ibrox for as long as i can remember, anyone who was a Celtic fan or had a surname that sounded Catholic was given a bit of a booing when they come on. Im not in anyway condoning it, just stating my opinion as to why it happens.

  12. sounded on the radio as if he was ok in the last 10 mins comentators were getting very excited at his ''thundering runs'' but i'll pass judgement later dont want to sound like I think he is Ronaldo, which he clearly isn't

If someone went to the game and can say different then that is good enough for me. remember he cant be that bad if he got on the park !!!!

He did actually look pretty good when he came on, he just needs to shoot earlier. I think once he realises you have to shot when you get sight of goal he will be a much better player.

He actually had an amazing run where he chested the ball on the half way line, ran past three men and was unlucky not to get his shot off. It would have been a fantastic goal and i think ill give him some more time to adjust. Perhaps Super Ally can help his game, after all there are still teams interested in him so he must have something we arent seeing.

  13. I thought DU were lethargic and wasteful today on a poor poor pitch.

    Hutton was still poor imo

Cant read too much into todays game can we?

Although i felt Adam and Burke gave us some fantastic width and threatened with every attack.

We were playing a poor team today. Amazing result though.

Id agree with that other than Burke, i thought he made some bad decisions and generally he looked a yard short. Im a big fan of Burkey but he needs to do alot better with his passing and cross. To be honest today he really didnt beat anyone either, I do think that he is still getting back to full fitness though so there is much more to come from him.

Nacho Novo on the other hand came on and did very well, he was offering himself everywhere on the park. Great ball in for Boyd and i think he did much more on the wing than burke.

Hutton was poor again, he tries to be far too fancy with his passing and it rarley comes off. If he would play the simple ball he would be a far better player.

Barry Ferguson did much better today, he got further forward and even managed to get himself a goal. It was good to see Hemdani taking the ball out of defence, he got caught a few times but i think part of that was down to the pitch. It let Clement and Ferguson push forward which allowed us to be far more attacking.

On the whole it was a much better performance, everyone played pretty well and we could have scored about 5 or 6 more. Sebo came on and made a brilliant run from the half way line past three players, he just needs a goal to get him going. Lets hope we see more performances like this against the bottom 6!

  14. My only worry is that Samuel will fly past Ian Murray all day on that right hand side. We are really going to have to watch that. I think for that reason you may see Adam play infront of Murray as he overs better cover for the left back than Buffel would.

Id still rather see Buffel playing though, he is a great player to watch when others are on the same level of thought as him.

So long as we win ill be happy, getting three points is all thats needed just now. We just need to get passed this first game then concentrate on getting some good players in.

  15. I dont think playing in our reserve team is any good for anyone, the football if you can even call it that is horrible. I think our young players will learn so much more by going on loan than playing in the reserves.

We need to get them passing the ball and to stop humping it up the field.

Where do you think Novo came back from?? The Reserves off the back of a string of goals and good form.

    The man talks sense. <RMTIME>

You just quoted your own quote

I really dont think our reserves play good enough football was my point, we dont pass the ball well and we simply hump it up the field. It cant be good for young players trying to get used to playing again as its really shocking football.

  16. If Scotland wanted Smith so much then why was he not offered a new contract months and months ago? No sympathy for the SFA!

Exactly, they didnt show him any loyalty. This isnt a case of the Smith against Scotland or Rangers against Scotland, it is the simply the SFA not doing there job properly.

They should have let him remain in charge of Scotland for the last two games, which would allow them time to find a replacement. They have shot themselve in the foot with this one and its going to hurt us as a nation.

  17. I would be dissapointed but to be honest i think the SFA has alot to answer for. There was a clause in his contract that said he could be sacked if he didnt make it to Euro 2008.

Even when he beat France, the SFA ignored everyones shouts for him to be signed up on a long term deal. They were not prepared to sign him up despiet how well he had done and now they are complaining he didn't show them any loyalty.

Loyalty works both ways, the SFA should have had him on a long term contract without any stupid clauses.

Im gutted for Scotland as im very patriotic but i feel he has been hard done by in all of this. Im Behind Walter all the way :)

  18. Just as frustrating is our inability to take our own corners, beat the first man with a cross (Hutton!!) or have anyone who can hit a free kick on target with any regularity.

However this is not a new phenomenon as I feel like I've been saying this for years.

Sometimes I feel that the only way they know how to score a goal is to try and walk it in straight through 11 men.

Whatever happened to the overlapping full back who could whip in a dangerous cross (at varying heights) running full tilt? Well they don't play for us anyway.

Edit: I know we do it occasionally just not often enough to give us any real width.

I totally agree with that one, our corners and free kicks are terrible and have been for years. Ricksen and Ferguson for a few seasons floated balls straight to the opponents defence to clear.

We need to whip balls in and have a big man at the back post to get any scraps, Novo shouldnt be there as he isnt big enough.

We need to work on our cross balls, they are terrible and most of the time we dont have players in the box to get to them anyway. If we play the ball out to the wing we should have 2 men in the box to attack it, its basic football that just doesnt seem to happen at Ibrox.

  19. Did Advocaat, McLeish, Vogts, Souness, Smith and Hughes have a problem with Fergie? NO!

Le Guen had a problem with everything but he is gone and good ridance!

There was problems between Ferguson and Mcleish at Ibrox, big Eck just didnt bother to drop him. There are many people at Ibrox who know that Ferguson was doing his own thing for the past few years which is something that shouldnt happen.

The same thing has caused Newcastle problems for the last few years with Given, Dyer and Shearer calling the shots.

Players should do what a manager asks, end of story.

  20. He was asked to play further up the field and despite being told to do so on many occasions he didnt

Because he wasn't getting the right service and not enough of the action. He was having to drop deep to recieve the ball just so that he could get involved in the game. Not his fault but Le Guens and the players around him.

He was getting the ball when he bothered to make the runs, he simply didnt bother to do so in many games this season. For example we are playing Saint Mirren and they have 11 men in there own half and Barry Ferguson is coming back to pick the ball up, he should be pushing and letting Clement take the ball.

It wasnt a case of Ferguson not getting the ball but instead of him not giving Clement the ball, which ment we were loosing out on Clements talents.

Ok, i agree he should be trying to push forward more, and it benefits the team when he does so. Unfortunately the flow of the game can often dictate how much players get forward and attack, and it would be worse if he just sat forward all the time not tracking back. I have to say i'm not even sure that le Guen did ask Barry to play further up the field - he never came out and said this did he? And if so i doubt Ferguson was purposefully disobeying orders by not getting forward more, he merely wasn't able to due to the way the game was being played. I don't think its the case that if he attacks more the rest will all fall into place, everyone else has to be on their game as well, even just to ALLOW him to get forward more. Anyway, regardless of this, my point is that i think it is a bit harsh for him to be booted out or even criticised so heavily, for something do trivial, considering everything he has done and continues to do for the team.

Not doing what your manager asks isnt a small thing, its major. Every player has a role to play and if they dont do that then the whole team has to try and cover.

The problem isnt that he has had to sit back in these games, the teams have always been pinned back in there own half. He simply wants to try and do everything himself, running with the ball past his own players instead of playing a pass. He has played well in the big games because he has got forward and used Clement, while offering himself in a more attacking role.

PLG did state that Ferguson undermined him, it was further stated that he ignored his orders against Inverness. If i was a manager and my captain wasnt doing as i asked, id drop him and strip him of the captaincy. You cant be seen to let one player do one thing and then expect the rest of the team to respect you.

It was something that had to be done and i applaud Le Guen for doing so. I dont think Le Guen was right for the club as he made some terrible signings however he had to put Ferguson in his place as he was out of order.

  21. He was asked to play further up the field and despite being told to do so on many occasions he didnt. It ended up hurting the team and its something alot of fans dont want to see. No player decides where they play, that is down to the manager.

Id like to see him stay but he needs to respect the managers wishes as if one player plays out of position, it disrupts the other 10 players.

Another person who hears rumours and takes them as gospel.

Le Guen failed to identify what fergie did wrong, and until we get a full explanation i am totally behind fergie.

He stated that he ignored his gameplan. He looked over tapes of the cally thistle and saint mirren game and then came to the conclusion that Ferguson had indeed went against his orders.

Surley you can see that he is taking Clement out of the game, when instead he should be linking up with him to get further up the park.

Look at players all around the world who dont stick to the game plan as it is not the right kind of game for it. Gerrard, Scholes, Gravesen, Lampard, Riquelme. They try to get more involved and try to makes things happen.

When all of the other players play that role, they get forward and help the attack. Ferugson doesnt bother to do that, he runs 40 yars with the ball across the park and then does nothing with the ball.

Graveson isnt in the league of the rest, he is vastly overated and he couldnt lace the boots of Petrov. He misplaces most of his passes and hasnt impressed me at all this season with the exception of the saint mirren game.

Paul Scholes has a sitting midfielder behind him that he allows to use the ball, Lampard has essien and makelele behind him, which allows him to push forward. If ferguson gave the ball to Clement and allowed him to do the dirty work and play the short passing game, he could get forward and offer himself in a more attacking role.

Football is a team game, Ferguson needs to allow his other players more of the ball to be a more effective player.
