  6. On the 17th March 1877 Rangers played our first ever Scottish Cup Final against Vale of Leven at Hamilton Crescent in Partick, the match ended 1-1. A replay was also played at the cricket ground which also finished 1-1, that game went into extra time and was abandoned amid controversial circumstances. Vale eventually won the Scottish Cup at First Hampden 3-2. This was a Rangers team of youngsters going toe to toe with the mighty Vale. It was this series of games that saw the transformation of the Rangers from what was essentially a boys club, born on Fleshers Haugh only five years earlier, to a respected football club one which caught the imagination and admiration of the Glasgow public this is something that the Club never lost. The Rangers were never to look back. With this in mind we approached the committee at West of Scotland Cricket Club with a view to having a commemorative plaque placed on their pavilion wall celebrating this wonderful achievement. We’re delighted to say that our proposal was given full approval and the plaque is now in place. We at the Founders Trail would like to sincerely thank: John Thomson at West of Scotland CC. Grant McIndoe Andy Smillie of AS Scaffolding Davie Calderwood of Elite Worktops Domenico’s Memorials
  7. We’re delighted to announce that we’ve managed to locate the final resting place at Craigton Cemetery of Rangers trainer John Taylor. John Taylor was born in 1852 but tragically,at the age of only 45, passed in May 1897 after a bout of pneumonia. He was a Govan man from Merryland Street,a much loved and respected individual. He was trainer at Rangers from 1885-1897 during which time the Club moved from Kinning Park to our new home at Ibrox. Rangers won the League for the first time in 1890 and the Scottish Cup for the first time in 1894 after beating celtic 3-1 at Hampden, it was John Taylor who trained and coached the players, he’s pictured here standing at the back with our victorious players. We would also win four Glasgow Cups and one Glasgow Merchants Charity Cup during his tenure at the Club. ‘’Johnny’’ as he was affectionately known was a sprinter in his younger days and twice received gallantry awards for saving people from drowning. Today Mr Taylor’s plot sadly lies unmarked. Over the next few weeks a new stone will be placed giving back some dignity and respect to a man we owe a lot to. These men gave us everything and this is today’s generation of Rangers supporters giving them something back. If you’d like to donate to the Restoration of Rangers Graves Project please do so using this link.https://www.thefounderstrail.co.uk/the-restoration-of-Rangers-graves

  10. Last Saturday night we had the pleasure of presenting the Founders Story at Coppies Bar in Armadale. At the end of the evening our Restoration of Rangers Graves bucket was sent around the pub and the wonderful amount of £118.13 was raised. We'd like to thank the organisers for a cracking event and everyone who attended for their overwhelming generosity as this will help to ensure that our Restoration work continues over the coming months. Thank you.
  11. During our early research into the lives of the kids who formed Rangers we were curious to find if they attended matches later in life to witness first hand how this seed that they had planted at Fleshers Haugh in 1872 had now grown into a huge football institution. We had discovered that the great Tom Vallance was present on the very day that our magnificent Main Stand opened in 1929. Tom was also a guest of the Club in 1933 for the New Year’s Day game against celtic and again when we entertained Sporting Club of Vienna later that month. Just recently our research has discovered this newspaper article from 1905 which mentions both Tom Vallance and Moses McNeil making the pilgrimage to Hampden for the Scottish Cup Final against Third Lanark . This is two of the teenage boys who were there during those first few days of our Club supporting the Club, both now in their fifties. It must have given them both an incredible sense of achievement and satisfaction.

  15. We at the Founders Trail are aware that due to time constraint, distance and cost many supporters can't make the journey to Glasgow to join us on the Founders Trail so five years ago we launched the Founders Trail Roadshow which is an alternative format which lets us take our wonderful story out to you. The Founders Trail Roadshow tells the story of our Founders from the shores of the Gareloch, to their arrival in Glasgow, their journey to the front door of Ibrox Stadium and beyond. This is done by way of a slideshow presentation. We profile each of our Founders and the subsequent growth of our unique club. The presentation also provides an insight into the Restoration of Rangers Graves Project and of course the Founders Trail. We hope that by telling this story it will give everyone an understanding of the very foundations upon which those lads built our club. The Founders Trail Roadshow has visited places such as Broxburn, Plymouth,Blackpool, Harthill,Fraserburgh,Thringstone, Clough, Belfast and Newtownards and have bookings all around the country with supporters clubs and organisations over the coming weeks. The presentation lasts for approximately 90 mins, with a 20 minute interval we also encourage a Q&A session at the conclusion. The roadshow can be booked to coincide with other entertainment you may wish to provide for those attending. We have all of our own equipment, all we need from you is a plug point and an audience. If you would like to discuss us bringing the Founders Trail Roadshow to your supporters club or organisation then please contact us for details by emailing us at thefounderstrail @gmail.com or by calling 07902 855536.
