  1. Nigerian striking prodigy Victor Obinna has cheated death after a serious car crash on the way back from training with Chievo.

The former Cagliari and Parma target was driving towards Verona when he had to swerve to avoid a car that was attempting to overtake at a corner.

Obinna’s Audi spun and rolled several times before coming to rest upside down and the talented youngster was taken to hospital amist fears he may have sustained life-threatening injuries.

“When I saw the car I thought the worst as it had been completely destroyed,†Chievo club doctor Giuliano Corradini recalled.

“But then I saw Obi and he was already conscious and talking and it calmed me down. He has bruises everywhere and is in shock after the crash.â€

Obinna’s recovery has been described as “miraculous†by teammate Aleandro Rosi, who was a few cars behind him when the accident happened.

The scene of the crash was incredibly just 100 metres from the spot where Congolese player Jason Mayele tragically died in a crash in March 2002.

The 26-year-old had been one of the club’s brightest hopes and the No 30 shirt at Chievo has been retired in his honour.

Amazingly, Obinna is expected to miss just one game as a result of his near-death experience and could be ready to play against Ascoli in Week 9.

Lucky Man, and the fact that he is only missing one game is a miracle

  2. Fears are growing for Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani after he picked up a potentially serious injury at Old Trafford last night.

Aquilani had shaken off an injury to play against Manchester United, but was unable to continue past the hour mark after sustaining a fresh injury.

“He is in pain as he felt a tear in his quadriceps,†boss Luciano Spalletti explained. “He really felt the snap. We are all gutted for him, but we will wait for the test results.â€

The best possible outcome is under a month on the sidelines, but the club’s medical staff fear it may be a recurrence of the thigh problem that sidelined the starlet for six months last year.

It would be an enormous blow to one of Roma’s stars of the campaign so far and would also rule the man nicknamed The Little Crocodile out of the Azzurri’s key Euro 2008 qualifiers against Georgia and Scotland.

Shame for him, he is talented young player for the national side, and for roma, lets face it Pizarro isnt as good IMO.

When Alberto went off last night thats when the game totally changed. :(

  3. Lazio and Milan are being linked with a sensational exchange deal involving unsettled strikers Tommaso Rocchi and Alberto Gilardino.

Rocchi’s stock has risen in recent years and after two consecutive 16-goal seasons, the Venetian hitman has become a crucial component in the Lazio side.

However, the 30-year-old’s future may lie away from the Eternal City as he is demanding an improved contract, which his club may not be able to grant him.

Gilardino’s situation is very different. The ex-Parma man is struggling at Milan and has been whsitled and jeered by some sections of the Rossoneri faithful, prompting suggestions he may quit the San Siro.

While a switch would allow Gila to relieve the pressure of playing for the European champions and give Rocchi the chance to prove himself on the biggest stage, there are stumbling blocks on both sides.

“I don’t know how this speculation came about because it is practically impossible for Gilardino to ever wear the Biancocelesti shirt,†Gilardino’s agent Giovanni Bia stressed.

“Lazio’s maximum wage bill wouldn’t allow it unless Milan paid 90 per cent of his salary and I don’t think that would happen.â€

Lazio President Claudio Lotito has also poured cold water on the rumours by insisting that Rocchi will be staying in Rome.

“We are still in talks and we want to keep him because he embodies the spirit of the club,†he stated.

“It remains to be seen whether the extension talks will be successful, but whatever happens he is a Lazio player until 2009.â€

Meanwhile, Rocchi faces a nervous wait to see whether he will be fit to play against Real Madrid on Tuesday after spraining an ankle against Reggina.

well this just sucks, he is a bad player at the mo, but too pretty to leave milan (but according to danny I need to stop being a girl) so for the good of milan i will let him go, but if he does go i need a new sig :(

  4. in serie a yes we are playing bad, in Europe we are better

for some reason our coach believes CL is a higher priority then serie A, hence why milan should not be judged on the games in serie A and expecetd to perform the same in CL games. When it comes to CL Milan always perfom.

The only problem I have with milan at the moment, which i just posted in another thread, is our defence, Milan has always played to win, we go out for early goals which we usually get and defend it, this worked back in the days of baresi etc now however it is not holding up and we are letting crucial goals in and losing points, we have no problem scoring goals, its keeping them out, well in serie a at least

  5. gutted, what can i say personally I think we need to get rid of the coach, despite how much he has done for us at milan, he came out and said the CL is more important to milan, MORE IMPORTANT!!! how the hell can he say that, we should be concentrating on serie a first and fore most before europe.

but thats just my opinion and i expect people (danny) to comeback with some reply fighting my opinion :P

No can do. I agree with it 100%.

Carlo is loved by everyone apart from the fans. CL is NOT our priority, Serie A clearly is.

But we're miles off the pace for winning it.

but many people at milan have come out and said the main priority is the champions league, they have done for years!

and that approach needs to change! serie a should be our main priority, we have won one game!! not for the lack of goals we have scored, we can score goals, its our defence that needs sorting out ASAP.

Nesta isnt looking as sharp as he once was, dont get me wrong he is still a world class defender but he is getting caught out more and more.

  7. Unappreciated, for some reason the english media hate totti, they come up with every excuse under the sun to slate him, but when it actually comes down to it, he has personally won -

FIFA 100 (125 greatest living players, as selected by Pelé)

2006 FIFA World Cup All-Star Team

EURO 2000 Team of the Tournament

    Italian Footballer of the Year:

Serie A Young Footballer of the Year:

    1999

    Serie A top scorer

    2006-07

    European Golden Boot:

    2007

and has scored 191 goals for Roma in his career

Not to mention he is a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, Totti published two self-effacing joke books in order to raise money for a children's charity.

  8. The Champions League group stage has only just got underway and already British coverage of the Italian teams has enraged

The wise old owls on Sky Sports were once again quick to dismiss the Italian challenge in the Champions League, although I say this as if it should be a shock to anyone. Following Milan’s fairly efficient start to the competition with a 2-1 win over Benfica – a team who have upset Liverpool and Manchester United in recent seasons, clubs from ‘the greatest League in the world’ – the pundits were dismissing the chances of the Rossoneri retaining the prestigious silverware.

“Too old!†were the cries from the assembled pack, and admittedly it is an allegation that Milan cannot defend. With seven of the men who started against the Portuguese outfit aged over 30 the simple fact is that Carlo Ancelotti’s squad relies heavily on experience over youth. But is that such a bad thing? In Europe’s top club competition you need players who know how to cope in games where one slip up or one missed chance can be the difference between a win and a loss.

Due to Milan’s stale summer spending it goes without saying that the majority of their team have the medal to prove that they have trodden this path before – Clancy Seedorf on four occasions. And with a group that should pose no real threat – and that’s hard for me to say as a Bhoy – the real test for the side won’t come until after the January transfer window. By that time teenager Alexandre Pato will be installed – although it is perhaps asking too much to expect Sky’s Anglo-centric panel to have taken that fact into account before writing Milan off.

For a team that has won seven European Cups it would be churlish to reject them as potential winners even if they had been drawn in a group of death and forced to play their reserves. Somehow they are just always there or thereabouts at the end. You can’t imagine Andy Gray and friends disregarding Real Madrid quite as quickly – the Galacticos after all are the greatest team in the world, picking up the mantle in the evening after Manchester United have finished using it during Super Sunday.

Which brings me to the precious Manchester club, who could forget their magical victory in the Nou Camp in 1999? Seriously, if anyone has forgotten then just tune in to ITV’s Champions League coverage and Clive Tyldesley will fill you in within two minutes of kick-off. The average age of United’s players was 28. Milan’s 14 against Benfica averaged out at just under 29 and a half-years-old. Can an extra 18 months per player really put a club out of contention? The years between 26 and 30 are a player’s prime after all.

United had Peter Schmeichel who reached 36 in 1999, a 34-year-old Denis Irwin and needed a goal from 33-year-old Teddy Sheringham that night. And they certainly didn’t have anyone who could claim to be the world’s best ‘a la Kaka’ in their side. I’m not saying that Milan will definitely be crowned in Moscow next May – for what it’s worth my money is on their blue and black neighbours – but to chalk them off the contenders list on the cliché of age is ludicrous, but then what more do you expect from Tabloid TV?

minus that part about inter winning the c/l and the fact that he is a bhoy
