BSkyb has won the right to continue showing four of the six packages of Premier League live football.

Sky currently screens four of the six packages under a deal which lasts until 2010.

The new deal means Sky will show 92 of the 138 games available from 2010 until 2013.

Bidding will now take place to show the other two packages, which at the moment are screened by Ireland-based Setanta.

In a statement, the league said there would be a second round of bidding for the remaining two packages in "due course".

BSkyb, which is part of News Corporation and owns Sky News, has the right to bid for one of those packages.

Setanta had paid £392m for the other two packages until 2010.

Broadcasters competing for the rights to show 2010 to 2013 matches had to submit bids by Tuesday morning.

Sky's rivals were reported to be Setanta and US sports network ESPN - the league has not revealed their identities.

Under European Union regulations, Sky is entitled to own five out of the six packages.

Last week, the BBC retained the rights to broadcast Premier League highlights up to the end of the 2012-13 season.
