Who'd you give the job to?
mitre_mouldmaster replied to RangersMedia's topic in Jimmy Bell's Kitroom
Like I said at the start of the season, I hoped to win the league, but they had a bigger budget, a settled team and a more proven manager, so expected us to fall short. As long as we are competitive, and showing signs of progress then we would be meeting our goal. We are however looking to be going backwards, which is why Beale is under pressure. -

We have won the league 1 time in the last 12 years. We have won the league 6 times in this millennium. It gets to a point where you have to accept that we have lost the right to consider ourselves favourites. Like it or not, but they have a more experienced manager, a bigger transfer budget and are an established treble winning team. They started the season as favourites, and are now further ahead. Beale has so far shown not to be competitive, falling behind in both the matches against the dross and also in a home game against them with a makeshift defence. -

And you are speaking for the fanbase to disagree with me. Everyone is losing their shit as we just got embarrassed in Europe, have lost 50% of our league games and been chronic in every game we have played with our new signings looking shite. -

I think it would be pretty fair to expect the team who is favourites in a match to win it. Doesn't mean it will happen obviously. -

Neither do you. -

Can be angry about many things. Angry our tactics seem to be a bit all over the shop. Angry we did not take advantage of their weakened defence, angry we lost to Killie earlier making us fall even further behind in the race. -

Nope, many say they expect to win it when they actually mean they hope to win it. Expectation is to consistently beat the rest, be competitive in the old firms and be in with a chance at the business end of the season. -

You are mixing up hopes and expectations. I hope to win the league every year. -

Yes, bringing back a proven successful manager, who has won allot here and is inheriting a treble winning team is AA pretty good logic for expecting them to win the league this year. Kinda my point. -

If people expect to win the league, then by default they have us as favourites. The bookies are the organisations who's are of expertise is in determining odds and who are favourites. Any Rangers fan who started the season thinking we are favourites obviously think they know more than bookies and that the bookies are being either stupid or trying to lose money. I genuinely think people say they expect us to win the league, whilst genuinely accepting we will likely finish second. -

20 to 30 years ago we could expect to win the league. That's the difference. -

Did it surprise you that the bookies had us as second favourites to win the league this year? -

See this is just nonsense to me. Do you accept that the bookies started the season with us as second favourite to win every competition in Scotland? Do you think that the Bookies were doing this stupidly? If not, why would you then possibly think we would win a treble? You hope that we win them, but genuinely I don't believe people actually expect us to. It's just this daft notion that people seem to think they would be less of a fan if they accepted the reality of the situation. -

It is. Many just love appearing Uber staunch. Realistically, most want us to be in a title fight and hope that we win it. -

We should be challenging for the league by being competitive. We genuinely have no right to expect to win it when we have only won it once in the last decade, being consistently outspent by the team who have won it every other year. -

No, I'm pretty sure that people recognise that we started the season as second favourites. People are not stupid, they can understand betting odds for example. You can't have an expectation of winning the league whilst genuinely accepting we are underdogs. The two are incompatible. -

Can say that all you like, but it's not a genuine expectation for most of the fanbase. Are you honestly telling me that before a ball was kicked this season, that you genuinely thought we were favourites for the league? People now recognise that we are the underdogs. Some people make Uber staunch goals of 'win the league every season or you should be sacked' but it's just plainly not that simple. -
Who'd you give the job to?
mitre_mouldmaster replied to RangersMedia's topic in Jimmy Bell's Kitroom
Nope. The expectation of the fanbase is to be competitive. The fanbase want Beale gone because we are not competitive. The league is effectively over and we ain't even in October yet. I think most now expect the gap to widen rather than close. If Beale was to recover, and we put up a good fight of the league and run them close, whilst winning the league cup and being competitive in the SC and Europa then the fans would accept it. Like it or not, but people can see that they have won 11 of the last 12 leagues and fully understand that we are likely not to win the league before a ball is kicked in the season. The expectation is not to win the league, the hope is to win the league, but the expectation is for us to at least give it a bloody good go. This will not change until we consistently start winning it. -

I was utterly convinced this was the name of a tennis player from back in that time period, not a footballer! Mind is playing tricks on me! -
Bit worrying given how thing played out after that vote of no confidence in Star Wars.

Unfortunately not anymore. We are underdogs every year. Our expectations now are to be competitive. Winning the title is something we hope for but genuinely dont expect, except for a few people who act really staunch. That is the sad reality. -

They have spent about £90m more than us on transfer in the last 5 years. -

Their ability to attract players like Haaland for £50m beating off the likes of Real Madrid and Man United helps. When you are a club who is more attractive to come and play for, it is another benefit. Are you genuinely saying that if we had say £100m put into our club accounts over the next 5 years that it would make absolutely no difference to our expectations? Don't be silly.
