Why would fan expectation matter right now after a good win like that?

I take it you haven't read this forum???

Some fans on here are never happy.

The team have just won 4-1 away from home and some are still saying it's papering over cracks.

No matter who we bring in, we are going to be inconsistent over the course of this season at the very least. There needs to be a realistic approach.

The same team, with Alves and John could well have competed last weekend and it would have been deemed as progress. Yet, we were in the position where 4 defenders were missing in some shape or form. Unfortunately, our squad isn't good enough to cope with that many players absent.

For goodness sake, give Pedro the backing until Christmas. If we are not at the races, then talk about changing.

First and foremost, we can't afford to pay off anymore contracts. Secondly, who would come in that would improve us?

  2. This shit happens at every ground every week up and down the counrty, its hardly a surprise

You make it out as if every rangers supporter has had a hand in this

Fuck off with that, I'm sick to fuckin death with handwringing cunts who are too busy bashing the club.

My supporters bus has been bricked a few times, obviously I was pissed off but it wasnt exactly a surprise

Football fans know the risks going to games and all this mock outrage and rangers bashing is making my blood boil

    WE ARE RANGERS

    Try and remember that

Football supporters know the risks? Grow up! I support all of protests tonight however, at what stage do you not think 'It's not safe to take my kid to a game as my bus might get panned in'

There should be no intimidation of going to a football game!

  3. In my opinion, he is a great player. Gets in peoples faces and annoys opposition players/fans. That doesnt necessarily make him a prick! Just good at his job.

We are forgetting that he is a very talented footballer among his attitude. I was fortunate to have had the chance to play with him when I was younger, although he was a striker back then.

As for the comments about not being in the Scotland squad, how many players do we know that are good players and all it takes is signing for the Old Firm to get them in the squad!

I for one would like a player like Black at Rangers.

  4. Give Hibs credit first half, even though we dominated they looked dangerous on the counter. Second half was a great display, really good football. IMO i feel (in any game) if Rangers dont start off at a high tempo and press the game we really struggle. It always takes a kick up the erse from Watty till we burst into action. When the likes of Thomson etc, start taking 4 or 5 touches on the ball we struggle to break down trams of Queen of the South calibre!!!

Today showed one touch passing in the middle of the park with Miller coming deep and into the channels got us in behind hibs! This has to be utilsed more often.Rant over, well done lads!!!

  6. I think Lee plays better when he is in the central role with Davis rather than Thomson. He wins the ball and lets Davis dart forward. Whereas, when Thomson plays alongside him, they both sit far too deep and there is no attacking presence.

Im not saying he is a world beater and will no doubt be on the bench when we have Edu, Thomson, Mendes fully fit but he will be the one who will put the boot in tomorrow! For lacking in natural skill he will certainly make up for in passion against THEM!!!

  7. This arguement seems to pop up on the forum every so often. They are both very good players with bags of potential still. Although inconsistent at times, Rangers fans would be lying if they say they dont rate Scott Brown and wouldnt have been a great acquisition for the club.

In my opinion i believe that Thommo is far better footballer but Brown has great fight about him that is needed in key matches.

Heres hoping that he can win a move to the EPL away from our sights and they can both be key players for Scotland in years to come.

  8. I think Weir is more than capable of finishing the season off as first choice centre half with Madjid! Like a couple other posts have said, it goes to show how consistent he bloody is if, albeit a costly one, we can only remember one fault.

The problem on Wednesday was that Weir had to do a lot more running than he is usually required to do. Not only did he face a world class side in Holland and i know he will be up against in in the CL aswell but, at Rangers he can afford to play a yard off his man and cover Bougherra. If Weir gets caught hesistating like he did a couple times on Wed, Madjid can easily make up the ground, whereas McManus was only half fit. Even when he is fully fit Davie is probably not far behind him and thats saying something!

If played in the right pairing, Davie can do a more than decent job for Rangers till the end of the season.

  9. Fergie is nowhere near the worst IMHO

Worst = Paterson. Im sure everyone has heard the rumour about how he got chosen. :anguish:

    Best = Gough.

    (tu)

    why paterson ?

    a) He was pish

    b) What did he win as captain?

    c) He was lucky that he was the first person to walk through the door after the bet between Jock and John McLelland :craphead:

ok ..your view is our worst ever captain is craig paterson

a guy who wasnt a great footballer.

but he respected his manager, and never embarassed the club.

    unlike ?

Craig Paterson regularly embarrassed our club. The very fact Paterson was the Captain of Rangers in the first place is an embarrasment in itself.

As for Barry, well he has given us plenty of fantastic times, made us a profit in transfer fees, helped us to Helicopter Sunday as without him returning, WE WOULD NOT HAVE WON THE LEAGUE, and has been a fantastic ambassador to Rangers as far as giving loads of his time to charity and worthwhile causes, some of which i have attended.

The recent goings on have been a total fuck up and he has certainly lost some of the respect i have for him, but the good times and good deeds far outweigh this one stupid episode in his life as a Rangers Captain.

If this was what the thread was about, why not just start a thread saying "Barry is an arsehole".

what did paterson do wrong ?

You are persisten mate, i will give you that but for fcks sake shut up! We all get you dont like Barry Ferguson and you think he was our worst captain but stop trying to manipulate everybody elses opinion. You should be concentrating about the positves after Ferguson and not dwelling on what he has done wrong in recent weeks!!!!

  10. Not heard much about the game yesterday but seen some of the ratings in the paper. Stevie Smith got 6 and a 7 in the two papers i read but nobody has him in their proposed team for Easter Road. I take it he was a bit off the pace? I thought he had good potential but too stop start. Was just wondering as i haven't heard much about how he played?

  11. BARRY FERGUSON'S Rangers future was today in doubt after he was sent home from training today along with goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

Manager Walter Smith ordered the pair home after their antics on Scotland duty saw them axed from the starting line-up to face Iceland.

The Rangers captain was already considering his international future after being dropped to the bench for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier by boss George Burley alongside club-mate McGregor after a near eight-hour drinking session at the team's Loch Lomond hotel base on Sunday morning.

It is believed Alan Hutton, Scott Brown, Gary Teale and Steven Whittaker were the others involved, but that quartet had departed the scene before coach Steven Pressley was called to the bar by a member of the hotel management to be informed that Ferguson and McGregor were still there at around noon.

Pressley then advised Burley of what had happened - and the Scotland manager told both players they would have to go for a breach of discipline.

However, a delegation of players - including Celtic skipper Stephen McManus and Darren Fletcher - along with the others who were involved in the drinking session went to Burley and asked for him to reconsider axing the Gers duo.

Burley feared mutiny if he banished Ferguson and McGregor, well aware others would have followed in support of the Rangers pair amidst complaints they were carrying the can' and being singled out for doing not much more than the others.

McManus and Fletcher also asked Burley to reconsider on the grounds the scandal and upheaval would have caused by hitting the public domain ahead of the Iceland game.

Burley then changed his mind and both players remained and were eventually benched - but, despite a statement from SFA chief executive Gordon Smith last night that the matter is closed, that is certainly not the case.

SFA president George Peat wants another probe and wants all the facts of what went on ready for him to put to the SFA international board next Thursday.

There have been claims today that Ferguson may well be axed as skipper as a result of that meeting - but SportTimes understands the 31-year-old who has earned 45 caps in the last 11 years is now seriously considering retiring from the international set-up.

Ferguson knows his conduct was out of order by going on a drinking session after the team arrived back from Amsterdam at 4am.

But sources close to him say he has been "hung out to dry" by the SFA and Burley as he did nothing different to the other players, and is being made a scapegoat along with McGregor.

Burley, according to sources close to the manager, is unlikely to pick either player again while he remains at the helm, with the next Scotland duty not until August when we face Norway in Oslo, despite the fact he stated after the game that neither Ferguson nor McGregor's careers were over under him.

But while McGregor has not intimated what the future holds for him, Ferguson is very much down that road and he may well walk.

Peat, meantime, does not appear content with Burley and Smith's investigation.

He said today: "I want a full detailed explanation. Who gave the players permission to have drinks and why?

"I want to know what the behaviour of the players involved was like, and if there were complaints made to the hotel by guests who may have been upset by what they saw or heard.

"I want to know everything and I also want to know why those two players made the gestures which were all over the newspapers yesterday morning. I want to know who those gestures were aimed at.

"It will be up to either the manager or chief executive to bring that information to the table. When the full report is ready it will go before the full board."

Smith had emerged from a meeting with Burley yesterday to announce that a new code of conduct' would be put in place for future international gatherings.

He said: "I have met with George and we have spoken about the events. I fully support George's decision, which was obviously taken with the best interests of the team and the country in mind.

"What is clear, though, is that this type of incident must not be allowed to happen again. George, like any other manager, relies on his players to act in a responsible manner when representing their country.

"We will be issuing players with a code of conduct and will be tightening up arrangements within the team hotel. Where any player does not meet the standards required of a Scotland international, they will be dealt with swiftly and effectively. We now consider this matter to be closed."

To be honest this tells us nothing, we don't know if it was just the drinking antics that has caused Walter Smith to send both of them home, once again a journalist is putting 2+2 together to =5. There may have been other reasons for this.

A bit off topic but George Peat is fcking arse like! His comments recently are just asking for a hiding!

  12. Straight Swap?

I doubt it's going to happen but, Tottenham still owe us money on Hutton.

Also if Danny Wilson is as good as we think he's going to be, why would we let him go we need a good CB.

I doubt this is true! Alan had a good start to his Spurs career before injury. I for one would bite their hands off to take him back. We need to be realistic and ask the question, would he even consider coming back after watching the side we have been this season?

The only ray of hope i have is, if Danny Wilson is reluctantly next out the door, it may be regarded as a swap deal if they still owe us money?

  13. Its not "them" that we need to worry about!

The only thing that will prevent us from winning the league is our inconsistancy. Concentrate on beating the "lesser" teams and the final Old Firm game will take care of itself. No doubts about that. After the cup final, the players will be up for it and nothing less than a win will be acceptable!

  14. He is likely to be the next manager come end of this season. Personally, hes worse than smith.

It was him in charge at the cup game, and his decisions were attrocious. We all know he controls the cups games, Walter is trying to prepare him for management, and personally, if hes learned from Walter, it cant be a good thing.

I honestly think we need a Benitez, Wenger type manager, someone with an eye for talent outwith Scotland, because there isnt much there.

We cant consistently play dailly and mcculoch, its costing us.

Look at liverpool, the paid 2million for the likes of Ngog, and we are paying 2.3 million for players like Edu, who has the ability, yet he doesnt get a sniff?

How can you say he is worse than Smith when he hasnt even been a No1 unless you count the cup games. The man is getting undeserved criticism before the job has even been offered to him.

If you want to take the view of cup games, look at the success he has had there. I know it comes with less pressure than the SPL but everytime he has selected team he freshens it up, not the predictable team Smith puts out.

My patience has just about ran out with Smith at the helm and im not sayin Mccoist is necessarily the answer but cut the boy at bit of slack christ!
