  1. My point was that different people will have different red lines and we would all need to have some give and take. Having a particularly dogmatic stance on any individual point is unlikely to take us forward very much (i.e. keep/change "fenian", keep/change "blood", keep/change "Billy") - what we need is consensus.

What we need is to realise that WHATEVER version of TBB we go for, the same haters who've managed to maintain a fiction that our club had died in the MSM for so long, will be all over this chant making a mile out of every inch they can get.

TWO things are non-negotiable in order to retain the best bit of the chant: the atmosphere it generated.

    1. The tune.

    2. The line "Hullo Hullo we are the X boys Hullo Hullo ul know us by our noise

The rest is peripheral to the chant and must be tailored to bring:

    a. popularity/legitimacy with the fans

    b. minimal hassle towards the club/bad publicity

As long as these principles are kept at the centre of this thing, I believe it can work with the right support (TBO and UBs backing is essential)

  2. Delighted this finally looks like happening.

Back in the day, I can recall conversations with fans of other clubs (english) saying.."why don't you just change that line to something different?"

It sounds so simple, but the reality is a little more complicated.

I think our support has shown - with songs like 4 men had a dream - that singing about Rangers is no poor cousin to the old anthems that were a product of the times to a great extent.

Do it properly - don't waste time clinging to old words when it was always the Hullo Hullo roar that made the chant what it was: the best.

And let the fans vote - that way this will be a anthem from the fans, for the fans. An old anthem, with a 21st century Rangers makeover.

Can't wait to hear it again.

  3. The thing that makes the song so special and so loud and euphoric is the "Hullo Hullo" part. It really gets the emotions stirring.

The lines "Up to our knees in fenian blood" and "Bridgeton Billy Boys" are incidental.

I don't believe for one minute that the Offended Ones wanted this song banned because of those lyrics, but if we remove Fenian then they will just focus on Billy Fullerton.

They wanted it banned because they had no response to it,

If the Scum were singing their songs in praise of terrorists and mass murdering child killers and we struck up with Hullo Hullo, It silenced them and drowned them out. That is why they hated it so much.

It is easily the greatest and loudest football anthem and it should never be lost.

    Spot on mate.

The bottom line is we need the Hullo Hullo roar back, and only new words will do it.

For atmosphere, intimidation, sheer volume - no chant came near it and to leave it consigned to the history books for the sake of an incidental line or two cannot be the Rangers way

  4. I don't see why we can't just change 'fenian' to 'Celtic'. If we get any bother about it then so should Killie, Hearts and Dundee for their versions.

Don't understand why we need to cling to "up to our knees"/threatening death without surrendering etc...?

    The million dollar question:

What was the biggest factor in making the chant the greatest terrace anthem around?

    1. The deafening roar of Hullo Hullo you could put your body and soul into and shook whatever stadium to the foundations

    or

    2. That line mumbled between choruses as you got your breath back

Watch that Hampden video when the entire stand is rocking to TBB. If the fans were singing something different to the f blood line, I'm damned if you could even tell the difference.

  5. Present Bears with 3 choices:

    1. Never sing The Hullo Hullo chant again - admit defeat in losing our trademark roar.

    2. Bring back the old version and risk arrest for the individual, tarring and feathering for the club

    3. Help bring about a new RANGERS worded chant, that retains the roar that made TBB so special

Now if you think the majority of Rangers fans are happy kowtowing to the haters, you'll think option 1 will win through.

If you think the majority of Rangers fans are stupid, you'll think option 2 will win through.

If you think the majority of Rangers fans are neither, you SHOULD be confident that option 3 is worth a damn good shot

Ask yourself the question. Have faith in your fellow Bears.

Talk is cheap - Its time for action on this. We need our favourite roar back again, and what better time than drowning out YNWA on saturday!

I've not got a ticket for the game, but im travelling a long way to come to Ibrox before the match.

I will be (unless i see sense beforehand!) dishing out small flyers to fans with the following message:

    QUOTE

WE ALL WANT THE ROAR OF THE BILLY BOYS BACK

NONE OF US WANT TROUBLE FOR THE CLUB OR OURSELVES

THE ONLY SOLUTION RANGERS WORDS, TO A RANGERS SONG.

An online poll of Rangers fans voted for the following words:

HUUUUULLO! HUUUUULLO! WE ARE THE RANGERS BOYS!

HUUUUULLO! HUUUUULLO! YOU’LL KNOW US BY OUR NOISE!

    ……………………

FOR WE ARE THE BRIGTON DERRY BOYS!

BE WARNED: THE “OLD” WORDS REMAIN BANNED AND SHOULD NOT BE SUNG – YOU RISK TROUBLE FOR THE CLUB AND YOURSELF.

SING RANGERS WORDS, TO THE GREATEST RANGERS SONG, AND WE CAN BRING BACK THE ROAR FOR GOOD!

I will choose the words based on the results of the poll above.

I have deliberately chosen words which will not incriminate the singer - nothing overtly offensive, sectarian etc... purely Rangers words.

If anyone is foolish enough to wish to sing the old banned words, thats their choice but they risk trouble for themselves as well as jeopardising the spirit of the old thing - to return the famous roar for good whilst keeping the club out of trouble.

Ill be posting a wee link hopefully to a finished "flyer" once im satisfied the poll is closed.

The flyers were actually printed, but a lack of man power made it impossible to distribute.

It proves the importance of getting TBO/UB on board.

I can remember showing one to a Copper on the day near the ground. He looked at it and said "nothing wrong with that".

The words on the flyer ended up being ... Our cry is No Surrender, We're Rangers til we die, for we are...

The roar, the defiance, winding up for a big HUUUUULLO! HUUUUULLO! the hair standing up on the back of my neck.

Now this was just in the florida Park on Sunday, imagine getting that back for the next OF game. this is how IMO it could happen - with some help from the supporters groups.

1.Appointed representatives from The Blue Order, Union Bears, Club Deck Loyal, Vanguard Bears, EE fan group etc.. meet (online if need be) and agree something along the lines of the following:

We need to rescue our greatest terrace chant from the dustbin to which its been discarded at matches.

The only sensible way to do this whilst avoiding sanctions against the club is for us to change the words.

    2. A new set of words is decided upon, true to our core traditions and values, whilst being robust enough to survive the inevitable spotlight upon which they will be placed - fan votes on the net could also be taken into account.

    3. The groups agree they will sing the New TBB at a said time during a said match - ie. The start of the Old Firm match vs the Scum, drowning out YNWA.

    4. A joint statement is penned - stating the new words and the philosphy behind it. This is emailed to supporters groups, the club, the media, etc... the word is spread so that as many people are made aware that the New TBB - words included - will be getting sung at particular time. A pot of £50 would cover a hell of a lot of flyers to distribute on match days or day of planned rendition. It is highly likely that the media would pick up on this story and the word would be spread even further afield.

    5. The New TBB is sung at said time/said match.

    6. the extent to which it works/ the number of people sing it vs old version will determine what happens next.

    7. Worst case scenario - the initiative is a failure and messages that TBB is banned are reiterated. A return to status quo with the cost of some time and effort and £50 of print outs.

    8. Best case scenario - the majority drowns out any attempts to sing the old words and the chant goes from strength to strength. The club approves of the initative whilst reiterating any return to the old version will result in trouble. The Hullo Hullo roar becomes re-established as the best chant around once again.

We could have this for the next Old Firm game if enough people want it

  8. It's good to see Bears getting behind this.

The critics usually shout the loudest of course. But they need to answer a basic question.

    What would they suggest?

    1. Ditch our fantastic, famous anthem, the loudest roar in football, altogether? Where's the defiance in that? Then wait for the next chant to be targetted, before TBB comes back - like it did before - and it all starts again.

    or

    2. Keep singing it as is and allow the club we love to have the shit kicked out of it in the public eye, totally defenceless against being labelled - and ALL of us labelled by association - bigotted, sectarian, hooligans.

Are either of those two options so much better than getting behind Alternative Rangers words?

  9. This is simply a vote for Alterantive Rangers words to TBB which aim to Save the Roar, Protect the Club

This is solely about the 8 words of the loudest chant in football that have damaged the club's name and our own as Rangers supporters.

This solution aims to be from the Rangers fans, for the Rangers fans.

Further votes may need to follow, with the least popular choices eliminated, until a "winner" is elected.

The ultimate goal, to follow election of a "winner", is publicity, flyering, organisation and promotion of a massed rendition vs the Vice Champions at Ibrox...

Save the Roar - Protect the Club. on the way to 3 in a Row.

    a) Our Cry is No Surrender we are Rangers til we die

    b) Loyal to the Royal blue of Rangers I will die

    c) This famous song will echo on our loyal battle cry

    d) No Surrender Rangers is our loyal battle cry

    e) We give anything to see our team at Ibrox or away

    f) We follow Glasgow Rangers and our hearts are strong and true

We are the people who cheer the boys in blue

    g) This is a rubbish idea and the chant should go to hell - For we are wasting our time... Hullo! Hullo!

Feel free to spread the word, twitter, facebook etc..

  10. This is the reason you got hounded the last time acting the cunt what were the results the last time aye thats right the vast majority don't wan't to change the words.I'd rather ditch the chant than bow to censorship by a bunch of idiots

    "Ditch the chant" :D

Oh yeah great. What a defiant message that would send. Willie Woodburn stuff that.

That's not giving in to censorship at all is it?

  11. Not you again do you not remember the ridicule and abuse you got before ? Wouldn't be surprised if it was you who fucking reported us to FARE so you could succeed in this shitey campaign

    So what should we do?

    1. Roll over and ditch our most famous chant and wait for it to come back again like before?

    2. Keep singing it and allow the club's reputation to pished on week in week out, whilst moaning about the club not "defending" us?

    Which is it?

Singing about Rangers to the loudest chant on earth is such a horrendous option for you. Wow what a big Rangers man you are.

  12. Tbh mate we canae even sit in silence without offending anyone at a European game and you want to bring any version of TBB back. FS phils wee lassie has had a hard enough life.

    Haha.

    Can you imagine it?

"Daddy, Daddy, are they singing that nasty Billy Boys song again?"

"No. They're Rangers words to the same tune".

"Bwaaaaaaaaaah Bwaaaaaaaaaah. It's the same tune. Bwaaaaaaaah! Sniffle".

  13. savetbb.jpg

A poll will be started on here tomorrow with any luck.

Post suggestions for Rangers words on this thread or at http://savetheroar.blogspot.com/

Not really interested in the negativity, heard it all before.

Quite simply, there is no other solution that keeps our famous chant, and saves the club from getting the s**t kicked out of it in the media, by UEFA, and by everyone else not a Ranger.

We give this our best shot or we roll over, give up the greatest roar in football, and wait for the next chant to be targetted.

  14. Trying to get a wee campaign off the ground to save The Billy Boys by way of a supporter-vote for alternative, Rangers words.

Looking for Two banner images including the Roberts conductor image - what else!

    _44657192_flags_get.jpg

    1. Attached Robbo image against background of Rangers fans with slogan

    "Save the ROAR

    Protest the CLUB"

    2. Attached Robbo image against background of Rangers fans with slogan

    "RANGERS words to

    RETURN the roar"

The text in captials to be a larger size, different font, colour, etc... so it stands out

    Thanks!!

  15. A bit of an ask i know but would be amazing to put Jelavic's words today "Will it break me, I will come back even stronger” against a decent background of images of him.

    Anyone fancy the task?

    Cheers,

  16. The night we beat St. Mirren and the Tims lost in the last minute to Hibs.

They'd just given St. J's a spanking and i can remember thinking "if they go on a run now..."

The hibs defeat, in the jammy last minute manner which the tims have pulled so many times, killed them off in my opinion, where as we marched on after a hiccup vs Hearts at home in the previous game.
