  1. England through with maximum points from thee games. Angola only on four points in second in that group, so if Scotland can win, they will go through even if Brazil defeat Czech Republic because of the head to head v Brazil. Wales also can go through if they beat Ivory Coast tonight. The Elephants have a decent team at this level though and beat France in the last game so it's a big ask.

Were Motherwell ever punished for the pitch invasion and McCulloch getting whacked with a stick ? Been two years now

Think it was a big brolly. Mad twat in the crowd poked McCulloch on the arse first and then the heid when he bent down for the ball.

  3. Portugal are in Group A with Russia, New Zealand and Mexico. So, if Pena had been picked him and Alves could have faced off against one another.

Bruno, Cristiano and co have every chance of making it through that group into the semis and possibly the final itself.

Group B consists of Germany, Australia, Chile and Cameroon. Nnnice.

I am calling a Germany v Portugal final right now.

  4. The photographer who took the second photo in the OP sequence should be given a knighthood for services to the (martial) arts.

I think Mohsni actually was a black belt at something or other... Judo maybe.

Took on the full Motherwell squad, bench, management, stewards and crowd himself that day. Chuck Norris style. Bodies piling up.

  5. The Scotland U20 team have thrashed the mighty Brazil 1-0 over in the Toulon Tournament. Greg Taylor of Kilmarnock scored the fantastic wonder strike to see off the giants of the Selecao.

Looking at all the teams those player play for Real Madrid, Man City, Monaco, Porto then us

Feels good after the last few years.

The only other player in recent years to be selected for a major international tournament was Mohsni who was called up for Tunisia at AfCoN 2015 but he didn't get any game time as he stormed away in a huff out of the dressing room after the first match to phone his Ma because he didn't get picked to play.

  7. Bruno Alves has been selected in Portugal's 23-man squad for this summers Confederations Cup in Russia. 4580.png

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_FIFA_Confederations_Cup_squads#Portugal

The tournament runs from 17th June to July 2nd, so he will therefore miss the Europa League first qualifying round. Also, with the World Cup qualifiers being played this month (Portugal play Latvia on the 9th June and he was in the squad for yesterday's 4-0 win against Cyprus) Bruno will not have any close-season rest period this summer at all. Hopefully he doesn't start to creak at some point as he is no spring chicken.

None of the Mexican lads we have been linked with have been selected for their Confederations Cup squad, so at least that's something.

I started the thread because I was annoyed about the context of the headline they posted. Call me "pyoor rajing" if you want, but I thought it was worth bringing people's attention too, as I felt the headline was a false statement.

The Dude has said numerous times he's not employed by the DR, so I don't know why you'd think I was baiting him by starting this thread.

    Okeydokey.

I'm away to listen to SSB.

Why would I read an article written by someone I find a patronising, sarcastic arsehole?

You seem to like engaging with him most of the rest of the time.

Honestly, bud... Come on. You're not one of the band of moon-howlers on here but you are like a dug with a bone with The Dude this past while. It's dripping off every post. I think you need to ask yourself honestly why you started this thread...

...And if you don't know come back and someone more honest will be able to help you out.

  10. The OP must be getting tired of being rode in these threads by now... Take a day off, for fuck sake.

I notice he was nowhere to be seen on the 'Lies, Damn Lies and Invincibles' 581-word article written by The Dude even though he was the absolute lifeblood of the other thread about a one-word tweet.

It's so fucking transparent that it's painful.

And he's not the only one doing it either. Quite a few were ducking out the way of that thread like they hadn't noticed it was there.

Even though we all know they secretly read it and were secretly seething there was fuck-all dirt to dig.

    :hiboys:

Great post mate. At our peak not only did we have some players who bled blue, but we had a squad that you felt would protect and die for each other. It was amazing to watch. Even guys that didn't grow up fans got taken along.

Not just us, all the best successful sides have it. We need leaders back on the park and backbone back in the club.

Absolutely, mate... And when Souness, Butcher and Roberts left the club, next up were Gough, Brown, McCall and Ian Ferguson who it's arguable were even more of the ilk that you describe.

Personally I think our captain should be Scottish....Wallace has not had a good season but he always speaks well, understands the club and is thoroughly professional.

Souness once said he didn't need to do team talks as there were 6-7 leaders in the team. Alves does not need an armband to lead. Hopefully there will be more like him.

Butcher, Woods, Roberts and Souness himself were all natural leaders. Even a guy like big Sadie McPherson would probably be our instant captain if he was around right now. Players like Stuart Munro, Ally Dawson (a former captain) and Cammy Fraser also had the cajones on the park (probably why Souness kept them around).

Easter Road in August 1986: the only two people I can remember who didn't want involved in the centre-circle swedge were Roughie in the Hibs goal... And big Ted McMinn, who was just a bit lackadaisical in getting into position, as was often the case with the Tin Man.

And, say what you want about McCoist, but he would scrap with the best of them too. I recently read that he was positioned in the tunnel at the whistle that day because he was waiting to stealth-attack some Hibs players and Terry Butcher actually had to drag him away in a headlock.
