  1. Unhappy because I feel it's the wrong signing. We should have signed Boyd first imo but then again I'm not too happy with that either  These seem to be the only options available to us at the present minute which is very disappointing,I'll still celebrate when Kenny scores but don't give us the "I'm glad to be back home" pish,he left for better money and Ibrox will never be his home after pulling on that filth.

boyds ankle operation probably had something to do with the delay.

  2. If McCoist applied that it would be fine but he doesn't. Our first team are guaranteed a start no matter how badly they perform. To me this is the reason youngsters like Urquhart and Telfer are now deciding to leave as they know the manager will stick with his favourites.

I don't agree bob. The last 2 seasons have seen us kicked up and down the pitches while the u20s for example have been playing the top league youth teams. McCoist goes to watch almost every u20 game, according to Gallagher, so he knows who is able to step up and who isn't.

  3. Bottom line is that McCoist had a golden opportunity that no other Rangers manager has ever had - and hopefully will never have again.

Rebuild the entire playing side based on FOOTBALL (on the deck, give & go, make yourself available etc) with the best of the young players, a very small core of experienced pros to help them and the best training facility in the country.

Are you sure that is the job he was asked to do? His employers asked him to get back to the top ASAP, no hiccups.

  4. Charlie Telfer - who has gone from being a virtual unknown to the most exciting teenage prospect since Pele in the space of a few days this week

Sums up the last week. Sad that he has gone but we tried to keep him and HE chose to leave. No player at Rangers should be guaranteed a 1st team place. It needs to be earned.

  5. It's also Rangers, if we did play youngsters and they didn't perform to our expected standards we would be on their backs quicker than anything and giving them abuse and saying they're not good enough to pull on the jersey. Folks can't get it both ways. Would be even worse if they were given the chance and we didn't get promoted. The whole idea (I think) is purely for the experience because the team are expected to get to the top flight as quickly as possible and it is an added pressure for any Rangers player, at least Miller knows what it's like to play for us.

    Exactly.

  6. I appreciate the sentiment (tu) but, have we really seen worse challenges this year than we do in the SPL? If we have, they've usually been done by Black or Moshni.

The whole fucking thing should be binned and started again, we've no idea how to utilise it.

Raheem sterling has went from being a 17 year old shagger with 6 kids or something, to a classy and important player for Liverpool and England, if Kenny Dalgleish was there I'd bet he wouldn't be anywhere near the first team, yet with Rodgers, he's flourished, Rodgers uses youngsters wisely, Flanagan is another example. McCoist is our Dalgleish, a legend, knows his football, but can't utilise his knowledge to coach or manage.

Went on a totally off topic rant - apologies

No bother mate. Rants are useful. McCoist also has to answer to his employers and what matters to them is promotion, hopefully that will change next season and some more young ones get the chance to come through.

McCoist knows the youth players better than anyone on here.

  7. which begs to question why we havent seen them in the first team then

in 2 years of playing part timers and having guaranteed league wins, we have 2 regular young players (one who we tried to replace early this season) one on the edges of breaking through and another fucked off on loan to pishy morton

And McCoist goes to nearly all the U20 games so knows who is ready to come through and who is not.

There are many factors to playing youths, 1 being not allowing them to get their heid kicked in by cloggers, or any team put out by Jim Jeffries.

  8. This obsession with playing "youth" and "potential" would have kept us in the bottom tier. Every player that's left us, particularly those that only a handful have seen play, are apparently world beaters who would go on to have fantastic careers and we've let them goooooooo bwahhhhh.

Fact is, most of these players reach their level away from Rangers, look to the most recent messiahs that are testament to that, when you think of McCabe, Ness, Fleck, Wilson, Shinnie, Loy, Lennon et al. You can't just keep throwing in promising youngsters and expect them to succeed. You need the strength of character of a born winner and a strong desire to get the best out of yourself on top of ability to succeed at Rangers. Some come through okay, Ferguson, Hutton, McGregor, Adam (perhaps) but that's the nature of it with us. If you're not mentally strong enough you're likely to fail with us, but then you might still carve out a decent career where the pressure and expectation aren't the same.

With respect to Telfer, I've not seen him play so can't comment, but if he thinks he's more chance of breaking through than he has at Ibrox then that's his decision. Rangers should NEVER promise to play anyone and certainly shouldn't be held to ransom by a youngster who's yet to prove himself.

Well said but it won't suit the ally oots!

  9. Spot on m8 - we are trying to sign guys like miller and boyd with no long term future and letting potential gems away, am sickened

His contract was up FFS he would only sign a one year extension last year and Rangers offered him a new contract.

He wanted to go simple as that. Others in the U20 squad are apparently better, according to people who go and watch them.
