  1. From the evening times

Rangers boss seeks showdown talks over Nerlinger return

ALLY McCOIST is set for showdown talks with chief executive Graham Wallace as Rangers edge closer to appointing Christian Nerlinger as football operations officer.

Ally McCoist is seeking clarification over Christian Nerlinger's new Ibrox role from chief executive Graham Wallace

This is whole story is a crock of shit. McCoist has known about this role and Nerlinger being wanted for it for months!!

Boyd was due to sign for Aberdeen until last-gasp intervention by Aberdeen

Scotland striker was huge success during first four-year spell at Ibrox

Kris Boyd is making a dramatic return to Ibrox after Rangers made a last-minute move to persuade the striker to sign for them rather than Aberdeen.

The 30-year-old Scotland international, a free agent after running down his Kilmarnock contract at the end of a season that brought him 22 goals, has held talks with several English Championship sides as well as top-flight clubs north of the border.

Aberdeen looked to be in pole position after manager Derek McInnes confirmed a deal had been put to Boyd and said he was confident it would be accepted.

Predator: Boyd (right) scored 22 goals for Kilmarnock in the SPL last season

But Sportsmail understands Boyd has agreed terms with Rangers and will spearhead their attack, as they bid to continue their fast-track return to the top tier.

It will be a popular move with Rangers fans, after Boyd racked up over 100 goals in a four-year stint at Ibrox that ended in 2010.

  3. Can't believe people use this to slag Ally off and talk about lack of vision, it's been clear to me over the last couple of seasons that Ally must have had instructions to get us to the top flight as quickly as possible, well like it or lump it that is what he is doing.

Yeah it would be brilliant if he could fill the team with emerging talent and take that risk but if they didn't deliver the goods the fanbase would be onto their back quicker than some of the typical posts on here.

As for Boyd signing, if this is true, then he would help that final promotion push and he would also help us hit the ground running in the top flight.

That is what CG announced was the intention. Remember that Paul Murray praised the success of the IPO and said that his plan would have seen Rangers take 10 years to rebuild.

Ally was given one job, get the club back to the top league ASAP and the board/investors backed that plan. It's the crap over the last year that put that in doubt and where we find ourselves now, like it or not that was the plan and in 2 more seasons we will hopefully be back in Europe.

  4. Maybe gone was a bit far, but certainly it won't happen as quickly as it should have. Realistically when we get back to the SPL, we will all want to be challenging in year one, there is no time to build and blood the youngsters in because we won't accept anything less than success.

It will be a long and slow process if we do ever build the team we all want to see.

    Absolutely correct.

It is 2 years late but that was the plan CG sold to the investors. It would have been much more difficult to raise the required funding if the plan was to take 5-10 yrs to return to the top.

  5. If we're being brutally honest, as good a move as it is, it's 2 years (maybe even 1 year) too late. We have had out chance to build and develop a youthful squad that would have built up the experience of first team football for 2 or 3 seasons and ready for the first season back in the top division. Any real chance of rebuilding the club on the footballing side is gone imo.

Absolute Nonsense. We have missed an opportunity but not the ability to achieve it at all.

  6. I was joking. I think Nerlingers name had been bandied about for some time but it would somewhat put a spanner in the works of a certain poster (no prizes for guessing the identity). If it does happen then its a big plus for the board and I would imagine a scouting system and overhaul of the youth set up will be following fairly quickly.

I know mate. Still early so my sense of humour bypass hasn't kicked in yet, probably another hour yet.

It's a good appointment if it gets finalised, I heard it had been but you never know the conditionals.

  7. I hope you put the name in a date sealed envelope. :-)

Some people guessed correctly but I didn't want to name them then as the source of the info was inside the club mate and didn't want to cause harm. Now it's out in the public domain I can talk about it more.

The fact it was there before the review was released shows at least there is planning going on and the board are acting on it.

  8. Nerlinger in some kind of Director of Football role is something many in our support flirted with the idea of months ago, call me cynical but is this purely a move to buy unhappy supporters?

This assumes of course that there is truth to this story and it's not just the fantasy of a journalist tasked with writing something about Rangers having trawled the internet and found it slim pickings.

If Nerlinger was brought in I would be both impressed and optimistic.

Assuming this were to happen, one wonders if he'll have the full range of powers/resources required to genuinely carry out the role?!

One has to question - How can we not afford to sack McCoist or even operate within our means currently, yet can afford Nerlinger as Director of Football and all the costs that position carried-out, will incur?

Positive story that hints at a long term plan with regards as to how we approach the game (better late than never), but I won't be getting remotely excited until he's in, a plans aims are made public and McCoist is one of several out the door. If the board executed such a vision successfully it would do them and us a world of good.

One wonders how the board came to the Nerlinger's name in the first place? What swung things in his favour?...........Hopefully my cynicism is the remnants of a torrid few years endured and not with an ounce of foundation.

To answer your first bit, I put up in here a couple of months ago, weeks before the review, that I had heard this was going to happen and that I knew the name of the person.

  9. I know there's a lot of hate towards hearts and a lot of talk about how much we will pump them by but I'm sure both fans will come together on the opening day of the new season to remember the legend that is Sandy Jardine.

I'm sure for a few minutes of this occasion that the love we all have for Sandy will overtake any animosity albeit briefly.

Good shout mate. I would be all for this.

  10. His lack of pace and lack of positional sense (not a natural CB so can't blame him) means we could never press up the park to:

    a. Win the ball back in attacking areas

    b. Allow us to quickly hit players in dangerous areas without going 'long ball'

Getting him out the side would be beneficial, enabling the whole team to press further up and would leave us with a pretty pacey and mobile back 4 of Foster McGregor Moshni and Wallace.

    INCOMING!!!!

  11. Just think there is a general frustration at Ally having made a complete arse of our rebuilding process.

Boyd isn't the best, but a finisher of genuine quality and a reminder of the quality we used to see (similar to Miller). Time will tell, but I think it would be a mistake not brining him in.

IF ally has been allowed to speak to him. Boyd said two weeks ago that he's had not contact from anyone at Ibrox

  12. There was a Rangers game on BT last seaon which Boyd was on the panel and McCoist was getting interviewed after the game. The guy asked McCoist if he would be signing Boyd and he said "i hope so."

I saw that as well. The two of them were quite pally so that doesn't ring true for this story.

As usual I'll wait and see when they are both back from holiday and it's announced officially

  13. Has Ross Perry officially left?

His twitter profile still says that he plays for us. I couldn't find any real comment by the club about it, only an article by STV that they are led to believe that he is going.

    I thought he had

  14. did they let him go or did he decline the contract offered to him because he knew we were sniffing about?

And did i hear right that cribarri is confirmed as gone too? If so that itself probably pays miller and darrens wages :)

They are being a loy smarter this time round IMO, just shows the diffrrence when we have a competent CEO.

Yes Cribari has gone. He was on £7,000 pw I think so it's a good chunk freed up
