  1. The way he makes it sounds it is as if Southampton made the the transfer offer first. As far as I recall, he jumped at the first chance and it wasn't until a month or so after, maybe longer, that Southampton came with an offer after Green began challenging clubs for transfer fees. He will not be welcomed back at Ibrox anytime soon.

Same as i recall. He seems to hide behind the fact Southampton gave us a fee.

  2. Sorry if their is a thread, couldn't see one.

STEVEN DAVIS left Rangers with a heavy heart and a clear conscience as Southampton paid the Ibrox newco an £800,000 fee for him.

Now the Northern Ireland international insists his plan is to return to the club one day and resume his love affair with his boyhood heroes.

Davis has picked up the thread of his career so successfully that he scored one of the goals which beat Manchester City on Saturday and virtually guaranteed an English title win for Manchester United.

But this season only started after the midfielder had endured the most testing time of his private and professional life.

And as the first anniversary of Rangers going into administration is ready to be marked on Thursday, Davis has put a human face on what was the event that truly did rock Scottish football.

A cliche turned into a matter of fact for the ex-Gers skipper and the rest of the players who found their lives turned upside down by a business affair that was none of their making.

Davis said: “We were professional sportsmen and on the day it was announced Rangers were going into administration it was just a series of words to us until we absorbed the ramifications of what had taken place.

“I had just signed a new, five-year contract with the club and it had always been my intention to honour that agreement in full and devote the largest part of my career to the team I considered to be one of the biggest names in world football.

“Footballers aren’t economists and we were trying to understand why a club of Rangers’ stature were in such a predicament.

“There were weeks of rumour and speculation beforehand and there were days at Murray Park when the players held meetings and came back in the evening to actually do some training.

“How could you expect something as serious as administration to affect a club like Rangers?

“On the one hand you were trying to be as professional as possible and getting on with your job.

“But on the other you were taking your problems at the club home and being subconsciously troubled by a big shock.

“We played Kilmarnock at Ibrox the first weekend after the club announced it had gone into

administration and I always remember the atmosphere that day.

“The home dressing room faces on to Edmiston Drive and we were taking it in turns to see the crowd turn up in incredible numbers outside on the main street.

“But when the game started it was Kilmarnock who scored and eventually won the game, so it was difficult to erase a problem that was always at the back of your mind.

“The football pitch is supposed to be the place where a player finds his relief and release in the midst of troubled times but it all took its toll in the end.”

When liquidation followed administration Davis was on holiday and burdened by the problem of what to do next.

Recent history has shown some players elected to get out of Ibrox and sign for other clubs on the basis that they were free to do so because their contracts had been made invalid by Rangers effectively going out of business.

Davis took soundings from those who knew their way round business law and those who were simply close to him as he wanted to see his situation resolved satisfactorily.

He said: “What to do for the best was a problem that hung over me while I was on holiday.

“I loved the club and the fans but I had to take a decision which was best for me, my family and the remainder of my career.

“There was so much uncertainty, so I was delighted Southampton made an offer that was acceptable and the club got money that they needed to keep going.”

Davis’ conscience is clear and he intends to go back to Ibrox initially as a fan and then possibly as a Rangers player at a later date.

He said: “It was the toughest decision of my life when I left for another club.

“I gave the team 100 per cent every time I went out on to the park for Rangers. If everything goes to the plan I have in my head I’d like to come back and play for the club again before my career ends.

“I know there are different opinions about the players who left after administration but I still follow Rangers and they continue to mean a lot to me.”

Davis has had enough distractions at Saints to be going on with in the meantime. His new club sacked manager Nigel Adkins and replaced him with Mauricio Pochettino.

But Davis eased the club’s relegation worries with the goal that moved them up the league table at the weekend.

He said: “All of what’s happened over the last year has proved you can’t make long-term plans in

football as you never know what’s round the corner.”

  3. I'm probably going to get panned for it, but the whole thing reeks of jealousy and amateurism.

We keep saying we have nothing to do with that lot, yet it feels like every CG press conference mentions 'Celtic' and we have press releases offering their opponents training facilities in some thinly veiled attempt to 'stoke up' the old rivalry. Offer them facilities, build relations - that's fine. Perhaps there would even be scope to bring in some younger players on loan at some point? Makes perfectly good sense. A press release though, on our official website? Seriously?

And what if Juve knock the offer back after we said they're definitely coming? It'll be more egg on our face.

Stick to concentrating on ourselves, thanks.

Where did you get jealousy from? I'd love to hear an explanation for this one (tu)

  4. to think Weiss was desperate to come back to us but McCoist apparently didn't rate him and preferred to make a move for Juan Manuel Ortiz the brilliant winger with no pace or skill. Now Weiss is tearing up Seria A (and he was a success in La Liga by the way aswell the Espanyol fans really rated him and wanted him to stay) and is gonna get a big move but our manager doesn't think he is good enough  and to think he only cost Pescara £1.5 Million.

    Nice username. (tu)

  5. You mean Darren Cole who played central defence for the under 19 teams and was moved to right back on the couple of occasions in the first team; a Walter Smith ploy like Boli,McPherson,McLaren,Moore and so on. I thought we had moved on from this for some time but I guess we have reverted.

    Naw, the other Darren Cole...

Young players very often change positions, he's a right back and a fine one at that.

  6. i agree they both have talent,i loved them both when they were here, but i feel players reach there level eventually and they have

Well if Weiss's level is a star of Serie A and both Milan teams targeting him then it's not a bad level!

  7. i disagree idont think aluko can play at a higher level.i think hes found his level,to me hes too weak for the premiership like weiss

its like naismith up here he was thought of as great.in the premiership he looks piss, subbed, starts, subbed.left out just

another average player who will slide down the leagues, players up here get rave reviews for playing well against hearts

or motherwell, there third rate teams with third rate players

    Too weak for the premiership?

There's other factors contributing to paysmiths lack of success down there though.

You can judge the player on the team he's facing but if you watched Aluko and Weiss it's clear that they weren't only playing well due to piss poor opposition, you can see the talent that's there.

  8. Aluko for the goal against the taigs when they thought they were going to win the league on our patch! I can't even begin to explain my pleasure in thumping the taigs that day!!!

I actually forgot about that for a minute! That goal was insane, THAT turn was incredible in all honesty (tu)

  9. Either way to have a talent like them just now would be amazing

Step up and play Barrie McKay

He gets me off my seat when he gets the ball

I was just thinking about how Barrie could compare in the future.

Imagine a team with Weiss, Aluko and Barrie.

Would have said Temps if he's on form but i prefer McKay, Temps has left me a bit disappointed in all honesty, hate to see right footed wingers on the left consistently attempt to cut in and lose the ball, you'd think they'd learn.

Funnily enough Weiss was quite bad for that :P
