Rangers have appointed ex-Arsenal coach Neil Banfield to the club’s scouting department, according to today’s Times.

Banfield, 56, spent 20 years at Arsenal before leaving in the Summer following the departure of Arsene Wenger. It is very promising that the club continue to make improvements to the structure of backroom personnel at the club.

It’s also encouraging that we can attract such experience and someone with the C.V. of Banfield.

He is the latest addition to a progressive backroom staff and recruitment team. By signing someone with the connections Banfield has in football, it opens up strong possibilities for the football club in terms of recruitment.

The former Crystal Palace midfielder also sustained a two-decade career with one of global football’s biggest clubs. It’s a strong move by the club and Neil Banfield will be a very useful member of staff.

Alongside Steven Gerrard and his backroom staff, Banfield also joins Director of Football Mark Allen in being involved in the recruitment process.

In October last year, Allen was also delighted to unveil a new scouting team incorporating five members. Andy Scoulding is Allen’s Head of Scouting. Dave Swanick, Billy McLaren and Club legend John Brown are their scouts.

In addition to those positions, Katy Lamont, the club’s Player Liason Officer, plays a major role in the department in terms of logistics and looking after any new arrivals.

No heard anything about this.
