  1. Dont think thompson wasnt 100% fit, he played for scotland B, been playing regulary for hibs, he was just pish today and maybe picked up a wee injury, i'll agree with the ugo signing though..odd one..

Thomson clearly looked like he was playing with an injury. Tho I thought some of his passing, touches, positioning and control were good. Not the right formation tho.

we looked much better in the first half with that formation, when thomson went off and we went to 4-4-2, we looked flat and didn't create as much

What?! We opened them up more in the second half FFS. True we created little in both but we were better second half with Novo on. In fact first half we only created two chances...both from crosses. At least second half we created a few openings in open play on the ground. There's no way I can see Ferguson, Hemdami and Thomson playing in the same team. Can't think why we bought Thomson...certainly wasn't a priority.

  2. "Not the right formation tho. "

    ====

exactly, playing in a busy midfield didnt suit him, too often he was left standing watching the play, and not getting too much of the ball, very much looked like the "new kid" in the team

Rangers have to go with 2 up front. Hemdani, Thomson and Ferguson cant play together, I'd drop Hemdani as Thomson is an all round better player and offers so much more.

Agree with that. Actually Thomson was not the type of player we needed. Glad to have him and all that but was he a priority?

  3. Noone has ever questioned Boyd's goalscoring record, But lets not get carried away. 2 of his goals were penalties. He worked a lot harder today, than he has worked in previous games this season. There are signs of improvement. No one wants him to run the channels or get crosses into the box, Like Sebo or Miller, So why compare him to players like that? If he held up play better, improved on his lay offs and challenged better in the air, He would be a "more" valuable asset to the team. He scores a lot of goals against the smaller clubs, but its no coincidence he cant do it against Celtic. They know he is 1 dimensinal and can set up a game plan with better players to nulify his threat.

He has been lazy, He hasnt contributed to the team as much as he should and he does need to improve.

You rest your case? You have no case.............

Agree with that. Also needs to cut out the silly fouls that just relieve pressure on the defence. Better all round performance today.

  4. I agree UGO may well be injury prone.

    Thompson?

WS said that he thought they both came off early enough, so they might not be out for long.

I do not think Svensson has improved much. He looked uncomposed, beaten in the air and turned easily.

Lets hope Boyd does not get hurt.

If Boyd picks up an injury in the coming weeks, We are up s**t creek without a paddle.

Asking Boyd to operate upfront on his own, then asking him to play Sunday, Wednesday, Sunday........ Isnt the best way to use a player like Boyd. He is hardly the fittest player in football.

P.s Nvager, What exactly did Karl Svensson do wrong when he came on today? and a tweak to the Hamstring takes at least 2-3 weeks to heal, Longer for an older player, Who has had a few hamstring tweaks/strains/pulls in his career.

In answer to the K Svensson question:

I thought he was poor in the air- beaten many times - and was turned easily on the ground. Just not a solid CH in my opinion. A drop in quality from UGO.

He never had one really bad mistake, but his heading and positional play and clearances were generally poor IMO.

Did you notice the three errors Ehiogh made in the first ten minutes? I think if that had been Svensson he'd be taking pelters. That's the way it is at the moment. When the Swede first came on he just hacked one clear. 'An aimless ball upfield' says the commentator...when Weir does the same thing a few minutes later he was, 'playing it safe'. I think Svensson needs to be cut the same slack as some others.

  5. I did not think it was a great performance but we are MUCH harder to beat now. We may not be so pretty, but we will win more games.

As I stated elsewhere I believe that the following players all need to improve or be replaced:

A McGregor, Hutton, Svensson, Hemdani, Burke, Adam, Novo.

We desperately need a right back, left midfielder, left winger and striker IMO.

We need an attacking central midfielder IMO...have done for ages. Smith decided to buy Thomson though.

  6. As soon as he went off I cursed us for signing him. It was a gamble, and it's backfired. In saying that, I'm actually reassured enough by Karl and Weir.

Thing is it was not a good gamble was it? I mean we'd probably all be surprised if Ehiogh didn't get injured.

  7. There's 20 minutes to go and you're 3-0 up against a pretty poor and toothless outfit like Kilmarnock...what would you do if you were manager? The ideal opportunity to give one of the youngsters a run out perhaps? Not for Walter Smith...too risky I assume. Makes you wonder what the point of having them on the bench is.

  8. With 9 scots starting that means they know what scottish football is all about and want to win the games unlike half the people le guen brought who were only at rangers to pick up there wages at the end of the week.

That's a bit of a stereotypical view to take is it not? Just becasue a player is Scottish it does not mean that they will try any harder than foreign players.

Hemdani tries his hardest. Ok some people think that he doesn't but that's just because he has composure and doesn't need to be charging about like a raging bull for 90 minutes trying to win the ball. He plays with his brain.

Prso practically bleeds blue. His body is falling apart, but I have never seen his head go down.

Novo runs for 90 minutes. He tracks back, tries to tackle and hassles defenders.

I would say Sebo plays for the shirt. He might lack ability but you can never doubt his will to win and do well for the cause.

On the other hand you have Chris Burke who holds the club to ransom and then shows little to justify his nice new bumper contract.

Charlie Adam could also be accused of not playing for the shirt. Lots of people like him because they see him as the next Albertz. By playing when he's atleast half a stone overweight shows that he doesn't know what it's all about to play for Rangers.

IMHO this opinion that only Scottish born players will fight for the shirt has to stop as it is not always the case.

One of the saddest things about this whole affair is the stereotypical and xenophobic views shown not only buy many fans but by pundits and commentators alike. Pathetic and embarrassing.

  9. I thought Hutton looked quite solid today and his cross for Boyd's header was excellent.

Fair enough he made a stupid mistake in giving away the penalty but he's still a young guy.

A stupid error not excused by youth. Actually he's not that young and is fairly experienced now. Like I say...stupid...lets hope he acts with a bit more common in Israel.

  10. Buffel..hope his injury is permanent, complete waste of space, air, money and RFC jersey

Webster......injury prone with Wigan and Hertz, bad signing

Smith....just one more for the never ending list at RFC...what the flock are they doing up at that Murray get the dosh oot Park

I don't understand why ppl don't rate buffel , i think he is ok , the other 2 thats a shame

I think all this stuff about Buffel lacking heart is overdone to be honest and a very shallow view that people often fall back on.

I suspect that Ehiogh is at least a medium term injury as well. Not the cleverest signing by Walter Smith I don't think...an injury prone 35 year old who was not deemed good enough for bottom of the Championship Leeds Utd. I wouldn't be surprised to see us finishing the season with a central defence of Svensson and Papic at this rate.

  11. McGregor - 6 - Penalty save balanced by error for goal. Average.

Hutton -6- Quite good at times going forward...rank stupidity in conceding penalty. Doesn't look good enough.

    Weir - 7- Solid.

Ehiogu - 4 - Made three errors in first ten minutes that would have had commentators and fans alike baying for Svensson's blood. Then injured...surprise surprise.

Murray -6- Gave his all as usual. Squad player.

Burke - 5- Lots of the ball but did diddly squat really. Doesn't look good enough.

Thomson - 5 - Started well then disappeared. Thomson, Hemdami and Ferguson in same team...hello Walter!

Hemdani - 6 - steady game without actually hurting anybody.

Adam - 6 - Another who did little. Doesn't look good enough.

Ferguson - 6- Average. Unlucky to have goal wiped out but missed easy chance second half.

Boyd - 7- Generally played well and took his chances well.

    Subs:

Novo - 6 - Ridiculous decision to drop him IMO. At least Smith had the good sense to see the error.

Svensson - 6 - Steady. Took no chances. Still looks to have no confidence but at least he came through with no disasters.

  12. Their's was definitely a penalty and our first definitely not. Our second was debatable. Put it this way...i wouldn't be happy if the ref gave it against us. Ferguson was not only miles onside when the ball was kicked, he never got into an offside position until well into his celebration...one of the worst offside decisions I can remember. All in all the officials were absolute rubbish.

  13. I think it's because the trouble that led to our inter match being played behind closed doors was caused by inter fans, whereas inter fans didnt cause the recent trouble.

That said I fail to see why fans from other countries should be made to suffer.

Correct. Inter fans threw flares onto the pitch at a champions league quarter or semi final against milan at the san siro. Thats why they had to play their home games behind closed doors. Of course its unfortunate for foreign fans but not much we could do about it. The problems in italian football were not actually due to milan fans so it would be really unfair to punish them for it.

...and the trouble that did occur was not in a European game.

  14. Ferguson is the only class player we have and has been consistently our best player. I really do not understand people who do not want him in our team ( apart from supporters of other clubs).

Then you don't understand the concept of principles. I don't care if he's Pele (which he is not) I believe he defied the manager of Rangers and should never play for the club again. His ability has nothing to do with that.
