it would be foolish to assume oth players should score in every game, and against every team.
im opinion is that it's easier to nullify the threat of messi when you have a team thats on the level of Barcelona and that can defend to the highest level. Even if you love messi, you have to admit that there has been a handful of players that have been successful in man-marking him for the 90. Tactically, it's also possible to choke him for space, he drops deepand finds pockets between the midfield and defence. I've seen alot of teams approach the game with 2 CDM's to choke that space, and usually 2 of them glued to Messi the entire game. I'm sure you would agree that you've seen games where messi has been nullified in this manner?
Ronaldo on the other hand, teams can defend how they like, they can park the bus, play a back 5 and have 2 players man marking him above, but the difference is, he will still possess a threat on the pitch. He can out jump defenders at corners, have a look at his goal in the champions league final against chelsea, stunnign header from about 16 yards out, and also a very similar one last season in the copa del rey final against Barcelona. he also poses a threat from freekicks you can't defend against, he has the ability to score from pretty much anywhere within 45 yards of the goals.
Probably the best way i ever heard someone describe his opinion on the 2 was 'if i had enough money to buy any 3 players, i'd take xavi, iniesta & messi an attempt to emulate the barcelona system. But if only had enough money to buy 1 player, i'd buy ronaldo'.
