  1. Am actually a season ticket holder who cares... but if you want to resort to name calling and avoid the discussion, then that's up to you. Apologies if you are offended, but sometimes tough questions need to be asked if you really care
  2. I am not one for rushing to judgment, but am seriously concerned about the motivations and substance of this man. He may turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to our club or could turn out to be a charlatan at best and an asset stripper. We just don't know. Here are some of the open questions that deserve an explanation:- 1) How much of his own money did he actually put in to Glasgow Rangers? 2) Who else is behind the takeover to underwrite any losses or does he have the personal wealth? 3) What happens after the tax case if we lose? 4) What happened to the £10m initial + £5m net spend per year promised leading to serious investment in the team? 5) Why can we not afford a striker from St Johnstone on a pre contract deal or cheap transfer when we are in desperate need of a forward? 6) What is Ellis doing anywhere near Ibrox? 7) Why can we not afford a player on loan when Hibs apparently can? 8) What is his exit strategy? Now, I get Murray screwed up big time and he is the subject of much wrath. However, I think it is very difficult to know whether this guy is actually the tonic for the troops or a nightmare scenario. We will know in 6 months, but right now... the jury is definitely out. I hope I am wrong but I have seen nothing yet to make me feel truly positive about this guy Thoughts?
  3. Ally was a top player in Scotland and Scottish. By definition that limits his value. The market would never result in a trade of EPL proportions these days. Kenny Dalglish went for a British record of £440K from Scotland. No Scottish player will ever go for the British record in the forseeable future due to the market. As a result even if you score 1000 goals in Scotland the maximum he would ever be worth in today's money is £10m. You cannot equate quality of footballer with value of player in Scotland. You score 10 goals at Newcastle and your worth £35m. You have a dozen fabulous games for Spurs and your worth £50m. You have 5 tremendous seasons in Scotland and your worth £10m max.... There is no logic... just hype!
  4. Anyone ever bought tickets from this site:- http://www.livefootballtickets.com/champions-league-valencia-v-glasgow-rangers-tickets/valencia-8856.html Looks like a fair price for tickets but looks a bit dodgy to me. Is it leggit? Thoughts?
  5. Franky is resposible for vile bile and racisted bigoted garabage that does no credit to this forum. He is a low life that should be banned from this forum and crawl back into his whole
  6. Be careful of using these survey results mate. Your survey is going to be completely skewed as you have weighted the question to get the answers you think you want to get. So to write a dissertation based on results which says "90% of rangers fan surveyed think that they get persecuted by the biased, nationalist, scottish media and 100% of rangers fans believe that the tims get a damn good deal from the establishment is perhaps not the most convincing and objective argument that you can present!" Good luck with it whatever you end up submitting.
  7. I hope you are right about Lafferty TN8 and he does comes through with the goals. However, his current scoring record is not great. In 168 senior games (many obviously not as central striker) he has only scored 31 goals. So would be great to see him improve his ratio this season.
  8. thats the perfect idea mate, pity we just dont have enough money the now to do that what smith should be doing is looking for bargains, like harewood etc that will do a job for him and ally for 2-3 seasons, without wanting a move, being subject to a move etc etc this then gives the club time to find new buyer/sort out finances I think you missed the point.... its not a question of whether we have 1.5m or 3m to spend... its the fact that if we spend 100K it should be worth 200K in 2 years, not Zero.... simples!
  9. And another thing.... There is no need to bring in a Marlon Harewood, Marcus Gayle, Egil Ostenstad, Velicka or some other 30 something type player. These guys are past their prime, no better than what we have, too expensive on wages and no residual value. Every signing of that type has been a flop imo. We should be judging the signings on how much are they worth 2 years after we buy them - more boughie and Davis like signings please Walter ....players who are worth at least as much as they were on the day we bought them.
  10. So lets look at the facts on the current sales ..... 1) Danny Wilson is a good prospect, he played 20 games and looked assured. We get 5m for him if all goes well and 2m if it doesn't. He didn't want to stay... we got coverage at centre half, so the only gripe is that he should have been on a longer contract so we could have got 5m up front and 10m if it went well. Will it impact our league challenge..... don't think so. 2) Kevin Thompson - £2m for a player we have 3 or 4 others who can do the same job. Good money for a player that has often been injured and never really shown any great consistency imo. Key question for me is... why did we have so many central midfielders in the first place. 3) Nacho - great servant, lovely guy but only a bit part player. Yes he was great value but good luck to him for the future and no real loss. 4) Beasley - not sure why he didnt get another couple of years. In December he was immense. Bit injury prone but he wanted to play for us and actually is a wide player. So slightly mysterious 5) Boyd - Only recently started to look like a centre forward. Always looked like a goal scorer. Creates a gap of a 20+ per season goal scorer who are usually quite pricey. Won't miss boyd, but will miss his goals. Lafferty and Miller might be the current partnership but they have never been prolific. 6) We never did anything in Europe with these players last year, so don't expect much better this year. 7) We will still win the SPL because the opposition is making the mistake of trying to buy too many players who will not cut it on a cold winters night in Inverness and Watty still knows enough to organise a side to win more old firms than he loses. So what can we look forward to this season? We will win the SPL, struggle in Europe and hopefully produce another couple of youngsters who can show they can perform at the highest level. Hopefully when we then sell them it will be for 5 & 10m as oopposed to 2m, cos that is the business we are now in. Open question for us all to wait and wonder is... can watty actually produce a team blended with youth and experience that will entertain or will it be a long cold winter grinding out results with dire footy. Only time will tell... Cmon the gers!
  11. Silly question. He wore Royal Blue - nothing more is needed to set him above that hero of The Unclean. Class dismissed. I remember Parlane when I was a kid... the chant was...Parlane, Parlane,Parlane Parlane...Parlane is the king of Ibrox park. His trademark was the volley - he was awesome for volleyed goals if I rememember right. However, he lost out when Derek Johnstone was played up front after being moved up front from center half. He ended up on the bench most of the time and moved to Leeds.
  12. Thinking through this Ellis takeover talk, it feels like it is all wrong because 1) How many other big teams are owned by a consortium - most good clubs are owned by one person or the fans. Look at the mess of Liverpool with the owners not agreeing let alone a committee of egos with all their own self interest 2) Often proves to be a mess when money men get involved in something they don't undertand - Look at Newcastle with Ashley and Portsmouth with a succession of overseas mistakes 3) Another Michael Knighton - remember the clown that ran out onto the pitch at Man Utd claiming he was their saviour and ended up an embarressment cos he couldn't raise the cash. Where would an Estate agent get £60M free cash in this market? 4) This guy has very bad form - the QPR and Fulham fiasco stinks. Why would he have any better motives for the mighty gers 5) What could an Estate agent possibly offer in shaping the progress of a wonderful institution - Nothing by slime and spin So unless I have got it so badly wrong... I can see very little upside and huge downside with this joker Thoughts?
  13. thats it mate agree 100% How can you negotiate if you don't play them?
  14. Lets assume we are a selling club for the forseeable future. On that basis we need to be able to create sellable assets. The only way you can do that is to allow the products of the youth team to demonstrate consistently in a first team setting that they are capable of performing at a high level. Over the last 10 years, the only product of note who has demonstrated that is Alan Hutton. Sold for 9M after a long run in the first team. My belief is, that because Walter won't give these guys a proper run and plays them out of position consistently that they never realise their full market value until they leave. A case in point is the combined valuation of Ross McCormack, Chris Burke and Charlie Adam is probably 10M today. We only received £1M for the lot when they were sold. That to me is bad business. Whether you like them as players or not is irrelevant to this argument. The bottom line is the returns we are getting on Murray park products is a joke. The only way to fix this is to play them in the first team and let them show what they can do. If they can't produce it at Ibrox and are subsequently picked up by a premiership club you have to question the ability of the coaching staff to get the best out of our youngsters. At the end of the day, that will become our best source of income in the absence of TV money. The contract situation is also poor that they are able to go for nothing as soon as they should be starting to have some real value. thoughts?
  15. The herald is basically asking the same question today:- http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/spl/ra...r-road-1.993668 Only difference is, this guy gets paid for this stuff
  16. The Acid test point is not the team or the opposition, the point is will Watty revert to type in this game and play a defensive formation or go with a winning formation?
  17. So, here is my new years prediction....Watty will change the team completely again and play his 4-5-1 special; It will look like:- Mcgregor Broadfoot Weir Bougie Papac Whittikar Davis Edu McCulloch Beasley Boyd Instead of keeping the same formation and the same players thast have done so well for the last 3 weeks. Giving them too much respect at the moment is a mistake imo. Their defence is crap. Lets get into them as opposed to sit back and grind out a 0-0 !
  18. I have to agree with this post almost completely. The basic case for me boils down to:- Against- 1) Nine in a row was done on the back of Sounesses team, weak opposition and pretty poor football. I sat through each of these years and the highlight was Gascoigne and Laudrup and one freakish campaign in Europe where we had Scott Nisbett looking like a world class star 2) Absolutely dreadful to watch even when we are winning. Shots on goal during a game is rarely more than 10. No pace , no cohesion no excitement. 3) Good players made to look like turkeys by playing them out of position 4) A litany of bad buys including whitaker, lafferty, miller for 10m or so 5) Biggest issue is lack of ability to use youth properly. In his first spell he failed to give ferguson a decent run and it was only when advocaat showed up that he became a mainstay for our midfield. This was not an issue when we had money. Now it is the issue! For- 1) He knows how to organise a defence to make it difficult for us to be beaten 2) He has a good record in old firm matches 3) He tends to win against the dross rather than drop points 4) He knows how to chose a centre half 5) He often wins the big domestic games when he has too 6) He is a decent bloke who has his heart in the right place
  19. This assessment is all true unless Rangers breaches its banking covenants, That means that the terms underwhich they are trading are not seen as in line with the commitments given when they take out the loan. When that happens in a business, it is my understand that the bank can take control of assets to raise cash to recover some of the loan. I would suggest we give them Demarus Beasley and Jerome Rothen now to keep them quiet
  20. I never understand why you have to be an international and be bought to get a game for Watty and once you are in you rarely get dropped if you are considered a 1st pick. The most ridiculous example was when Dick took over the last time Watty left all of a sudden Fergie got played regularly. As you so rightly say every other team in Europe plays players under 20 except us!
  21. We buy good players and turn them into donkeys in most cases - need to find some younger players to develop
  22. Reality check:- We played a team from a pretty ordinary league whose record buy is £350K and we get hammered at home. The players had a shocker and the manager had a nightmare. Something is rothen in the state of Ibrox. Time we got a simple system that brought the best out in the players we have and includes some youngsters of quality. Other than that... we may as well forget anything other than the SPL for the next few years. Time to dispatch :- Whittiker, McCulloch, Rothen, Papac, Smith Time to retire : Watty
  23. DJ in 1978 was awesome - 38 goals in the season and the 16 yard bullet header at Hampden against Wales which was still the best header I have ever seen. He was unstoppable in the air and led the line like Hately but he got great service from a succession of outstanding wingers including Tommy McLean, Cutty Young, Davie Cooper and Willie Johnstone. Oh to have one decent winger at Ibrox now!
  24. Just for a laugh I tried to work out how much the team that played against Seville would be worth if they were all sold as a job lot. If you forget the impact of contracts that are running out I would suggest the following valuations:- McGregor £3M Whittiker £1M Weir £0K Bougie £7M Papac £0.5M Davis £5M Mendes £2M McCulloch £1M Thomson £2.5M Rothen £1M Naismith £2M Subs Novo £0.5M Boyd £2.5M Total value - £24M Thats the equivalent of 2 x Tore Andre Flos, an Egil and an Nuno. Sad but true
  25. Think its time for something different. Fed up watching the same tired formation fail. Mendes is a great player potentially but right now he is not at his best. Give the boy a rest for a few games. The best we played in SPL was the 45mins with 10 men against Hearts. I would go for a midfield 4 of.... Thomson/ McCulloch Rothen Davis Smith Not sure how well it would work, but it would definitely be worth a try. Watty will never go for it cos it means playing players roughly in their right positions Thoughts?
