  1. I seem to recall Britain ruling the waves as recently as 1982 off the south east coast of Argentina. Maybe Gibson forgot about the Falklands. :disappointment:

If you had called them the Malvinas he would have remembered.

There is so much in his letter that needs comment but I can't be bothered - he's obviously not worth the effort.

  2. Buying players in the transfer market is only part of being a success. Probably more difficult is the ability to move on unwanted players off the wage bill and getting a decent proce for them.

At the moment all we are seeing is a list of names being talked about/talked to but no word of the likes of Beattie going for half a million, or anyone else being shipped out for a decent price. This also creates more cash for buys.

That is what makes someone a success in the market.

With the likes of Ness, Hutton and wylde starting to come through I think that gives the Rangers even more scope to get some of the high earners out and still have a decent sized squad.

    Thoughts?

  3. If he is McCoist's top target then we cannot afford to fuck about and run the risk of not getting him or the sake of a couple of hundred thousand pounds.

There is enough interest to suggest that if Dundee Utd want 2 million that's what they will get.

He's been earmarked as a target for months now so we must have known what Dundee Utd would want.

Whyte is trying to call their bluff and I dot think it'll work.

With the difference in valuations being only half a million (or it seems to be half a million)surely there are players at Ibrox - youngsters who are decent but will not be world beaters - that we can use in part-ex? This would also get them off the wage bill.

  4. I can't understand mccoist going on holiday in the middle of trying to tie up 3 players? Rangers website says he's gone on break

    Because:

1 he has a mobile phone

2 he won't be the one agreeeing the contract details

If he has identified players, spoken to them and has been told the budget for them he can leave it to the bean counters to finalise.

  5. I new you would all bite.

Got a phone call one day while i was visiting family in Rothesay. They had just finished building the place and a sheet of clear perspex was hanging off flapping in the wind, the panic was great they were only hours away from the first game of the season and the panic button had been pressed.

There is the (alleged) story of design and construct spec being different when it comes to the structural steel.

I was asked to meet a sub contractor at the site one day, this was after the stadium had been completed to have a look a the TV gantry. Anyway you walk up to the back of the main stand and enter the roof through an unlocked doorway and then walk along the roof and drop down under the roof into the Gantry.

The relevant safety organisation had inspected the stadium to get its licence to open for business and they put a hold on the clearance due to the Gantry being made of box section but the roof structure being made of tube section, or vice versa. The problem being that you need a certain amount of surface to surface interaction and weld to pass inspection, not up to standard this time.

The wiring/power points that the TV cameras were using was nothing short of shocking and wasnt even mentioned in the report.

Anyway done the inspection and needed a truck with a certain reach and height configuration to get up to the gantry. Went down the road of checking access etc to ensure we could get the big boy into the stadium which was easy however we needed to encroach onto the playing surface to allow the truck to turn and centre itself. I explained this to the subbie and he got a hold of the groundsman to explain the situation, he basically said no chance are you putting a machine on the grass.

I stood there laughing at the groundsman as he had basically told me, his only option to fuck off. I explained it was no skin off my nose that the machine had work in Manchester and was heading down south and wouldnt be finished for a couple of weeks. The opening game of the CL was bang in the middle of that time and they wouldnt have had the relevant paperwork to open the doors. Any way i told them that was their options and as a Rangers fan had no issue with letting the machine head south sooner rather than later and left the stadium.

I never even got to the end of London Rd and was asked to hold the machine in Glasgow for one more day so that they could decide on option, i told them they had lost there option as the truck was on the M8 and tracking to the M74. They then committed to hiring the machine to carry out the works and were charged very handsomely for it.

They also had clear perspex sitting on the roof above bodies which was jammed in by a bit of 4x2.

This could be one of the many sports stadiums in Glasgow, ahem.

Oh the thought of a full mhedia gantry falling on to TGFITW below - how awful that would be.

  6. With no reserve team we could always let these players go out on loan.

Also, what happened tot he proposal that clubs would be able to enter a second team into the lowere leagues? Has this been scrapped or still be discussed?

  7. Noticed this the other day looking through the BBC Sport pages on the net anmd at various laegue home pages, EPL, Championship, SPL, Scottich League.

All still show league positions at end of season - apart from the SPL which has everything showing zero points ready for 2011/2.

Surely just a coincidence and not some petty whank at the BBC with a chipon his shoulder?

  8. If I was HMRC I would be looking for a test case that I could possibly win to use as a precedent. And as Rangers are regarded as the anti Christ and responsible for global warming, droughts, the Icelandic volcanoes, world poverty etc. then they seem a good place to start! (or am I being paranoid?) :shifty:

  9. No, was during the late 90's after he said when he joined we were not in the top 10 clubs in the world, but by that time, around 98/99, we were in the top 10 World Biggest clubs.

    ;)

For me one of the defining moments that I can remember is when he quit but offeered to stay until the end of the season and SDM basically told him to GTF and put Sir Walter in charge. And we won the league.

The message was WE ARE THE RANGERS - you are not!!
