  1. Chesterfield - What a nightmare!........seem to remember Mr. Greig getting a tough time in the papers for saying that we would hammer them at Saltergate. Their manager was saying they would play us off the pitch. They totally hammered us and yes, Bonnyman was en ex who scored. I was on the Chesterfield kop watching in my scarf and had some n0bhead desperate to have a pop at me - and they were winning 3-0!........when we came out, pubs were shut/boarded, but we got in 1 - when we got past the bouncers - it was full of us lot. Although a bit on the quiet side, just glad to get a pint in to calm down!...........Then there was losing to Dundalk in a European game.....dark, heavy days indeed.
  2. R.I.P. Gerry, you will be sadly missed, never forgotten. A good keeper in his time.
  3. Excellent Vid!..........makes the chest pump!.......oh by the way, colshyr (response just before mine) - absolutely crackin' picture on your page - it's got me creased up (ma sides are achin !!!!!!)........God Bless All Fellow Blue Noses - nothin' sweeter in my mind knowin' that we (over the season, were pretty poor in terms of quality) have just mugged 'them' at the end of a long haul - just wish 'Strapon' was stayin' on - he is more despised than us in Scottish football - great, eh! WATP
  4. Well Done - I imagine it was quite difficult to decide which photos to put into print and which to leave behind. Still, worth it in the end, eh!
  5. Alfie Conn, Mo Mo, F**k yer Mo, and Tommy Callaghan. I was about 9 or 10 years old when I won a competition in the Edinburgh Pink newspaper - for a football strip. I chose my beloved 'Gers and my Father gave the ticket to Tommy Callaghan (who frequented nearby in Oakley, Fife at the time) to collect as he was , well, quite often in Glasgow at the time for obvious reasones...........to this day, I have never seen or received this strip...........
  6. And to think he could have signed for Sheffield United who had been out to look at him - decided to go for Alex Sabella instead......
  7. Standing on the Kop at Saltergate, getting eyed up for a stiffin' by a brick sh*thouse, wearing my scarf around my neck with great pride as we got stuffed (well and truly) by Chesterfield (3rd division at the time).......... Graeme Souness being named as Manager (disliked the guy before, still not keen on him now) Maurice joining (more to with with the media circus in terms of Mo being in a hoops shirt before then changing allegiance to us)....... Losing out on 10 in a row......... Manchester - from my own opinion, the fans (as usual) turned up but the side didn't - poor performance (irrelevant the reasons why).....the garbage from the media after the game (haven't listened to TalkSh*te since)............ Alfie Conn going to the other side.......... .....to name a few.
  8. (wve) Would (genuinely) like to wish PLG all the very best for the future. The arrangement didn't work out for any of us at the end of the day. Am a tad peeved though that we as a club are looking amateur in the media with the way this has all been handled (or rather reported). My own personal viewpoint is that PLG may have engineered his own departure (as he was not coming to terms as easily as first thought he could with Scottish football / the sheer size of the club / the fans (both the supportive and the fickle) & the sheer importance of RFC in our culture. The guy doesn't want to be seen as a failure and SDM would (as always and should be expected to) stand by his man in the hope that he could turn things round by the end of the season. Stirring up a hornets nest by perhaps misinterprating BF's manner has left the club with no option but to force SDM to agree to split 'amicably'. <scared> BF I believe, would quite happily share his opinion (whether asked to or not) because of the passion he has for the club and perhaps he had gone too far this time (which PLG construed as undermining him as Manager). However, for the media and certain other quarters of opposing clubs fans to wallow in the hype that BF is bigger than 'the club' is typical, unjust and in my opinion , way off the mark. Finally, I am a bit worried about the names being bandied about for the position: Walter - backward step for himself and could undo all the previous relationship with the fans if it all went 'Pete Tong' ; Ally - Same as Walter; Souness - never liked him in the first place, why have hime back?; Billy Davies - perhaps untested in a goldfish bowl environment - but at least he knows the club and its history; Eriksson - would rather have Jim Leishman!
