  1. Left it on a bit of a cliffhanger :mutley:

    Anybody get worried?

David Weir will consider a move away from Rangers in January, if he fails to win his place back in the first team.

The veteran defender agreed to stay on for an extra season following Ally McCoist’s appointment as manager.

Summer recruits Dorin Goian and Carlos Bocanegra have kept him out of the side, with Weir playing just 29 minutes of football this season, being forced off injured against Malmo in the Champions League qualifiers.

“My priority is playing and, as it stands, I want to play for Rangers,” he told STV. “If that doesn’t happen, you’ve got to get the message and start looking elsewhere.

“But, right now, my focus is 100% on playing for Rangers and trying to get back in the team.”

Now fit again, Weir has been unable to break back into the team but says keeping himself fit and motivated to be ready for the call hasn’t been an issue.

“Motivation shouldn’t be a problem,” he said. “That’s what you do. You’ve got to be self-motivated and you’ve got to do the things in order to keep yourself ready if you do get the chance.

“We’ve had plenty of games. We’ve had games this week and have had games most weeks. So that keeps you on top of things so you are ready if you do get a chance.”

In his absence, Rangers have built up a 12-point lead over Celtic and Motherwell in the SPL, leading to striker Nikica Jelavic saying he felt his team should have enough points on board to secure their fourth consecutive title.

Weir though is more measured in his outlook for the remainder of the campaign and says no-one at Ibrox is taking success for granted.

“Nikica has said what he has said and I’m sure he said it with the best intentions,” said the Rangers captain. “But I think we all know that there is a long way to go and things can change quickly.

“Historically it goes down to the last couple of weeks and we are preparing again for that this year.”
