  1. Well the funny thing is that fenians (and I use the word correctly) who I know proudly claim that their parents did so. The lighting was directional. A clue for the bombers where to go, not where to drop the bombs hahahaha....how the hell would German pilots know which part of the city these lights were from or which direction they were supposed to be facing to...are you suggesting they made the lights into a big arrow with a big burning sign saying "Clydebank 5 miles doon that way" get a grip, the Luftwaffe used maps and advanced navigation tools...not tims leaving the bedroom lights on. I've met some dafties in my day who would believe anything but c'mon, this is up there with the best of them!!! it was the chapels with their candles that guided them. hahahah...you can't bloody see a candle amongst all the other light from a city at 15000 feet even during a black out as there are still lots of lights on, hence the reason black outs never worked as it was still obvious where the city is! And how would they know if it was a candle from a chapel or a lights from a warehouse. No pilot in the world would use a candle in a chapel for navigation over a city. No offense mate...but I think you might be a bit simple. No offence but I think you may have missed the irony.
  2. Yes,in 2008 I am happy to say that many soldiers from both sides of the divide are happy to fight for Britain's safety. But we were talking about WW2 where attitudes were entirely different.Who are these "many" Irish that you speak of that died for us in both World wars?I'm not saying your wrong but I am in serious need of enlightenment as I can honestly say that I have not heard of "many" if any. Comparing celtic fans to being all anti-British Republicans is very different from saying all Rangers fans are pro UVF.The correct comparisons would be UVF/IRA and Unionist/Republican.I am Unionist but I don't support the actions of any terrorist movement whether it be UVF/UDA or IRA. Don't be so ridiculous to think that people from Bearsden are "above" such topics.I went to Bearsden Primary,Academy and have lived there my whole life and yes,I take people as they come and don't judge on religion but it's not because I was raised in Bearsden that I think like that.I don't care if all your friends went to uni or prison and if you don't want to associate yourself with the history and idealogies of the Protestantism vs Catholism situation in Scotland then there is no need to speak of them and the plums you may or may not know. And Northern Ireland has it's universities as well! Many people on this forum would make you think that the country is a one-stop war-zone when in fact it's a lovely,well-developed country.
  3. The scenario in question was not undertaken in Glasgow nor by Irish immigrants.
  4. No need to patronise me by calling me a Bird and using me in the third-person. But since you have,it signals to me that we're not on the same wavelength and/or intelligence. I would ask about the WW2 conspiricies that you are alluding me to but I don't see the point as we are from very different kettles of fish. As you said,we are just going round in circles and I think it's been well-established that we have opposing views on the matters discussed.
  5. Intense hatred - what hatred is this? in football or in modern day Britain? It's the hatred and rivalry that you openly participate in when Scotland and England play. I'm not linking the argument to modern-day Britain but I do think there are undertones of the rivarly coming through in other areas of life. But a)I'm not directing any other rivalries at you personally-it's just an observation and b)You seem to wet your pants everytime someone mentions politics
  6. No. I know this. You know this. So why ask?
  7. I think the lights were left on for the bombers? Anyway the point is sound. Who do the scum support when we are at war? The fascists/ nazis we are fighting, that is who. Apologies and thanks for correcting me
  8. I'm pretty sure my great grand father didn't fight alongside many Irish Republicans in World War 2.
  9. No. It's not because I'm unionist;it's because England simply don't bother me enough to warrant such an intense hatred. Where on earth did I mention Scottish independence and it's supposed affinity to supporting Celtic or Aberdeen in Europe? Your telling me not to bring politics into football and that it's not the smartest thing? I would appreciate if you didn't jump to conclusions as that isn't the smartest thing either.
  10. I don't know whether to laugh or cry at that comment. I just don't see the logic in your argument at all. In fact,it worries me that you think that these two scenarios are connected. Scotland and England are rivals at football Rangers and Celtic are rivals at football Give it 5 minutes love The rivalries are of completely different depth and content. Don't insinuate that I'm simple when you are the one using "rivalry" as a blanket term for two totally different feuds. And I think even any Rangers fan who loves the National side to pieces could explain to you that the rivalries are in two totally different leagues (literally and socially speaking). I would class myself as both - and no, you can't compare many rivalries. But these both are based upon things that happened in the past - battles, invasions and the like - and at the end of the day, in footballing terms, they are both rivals, there is no denying it. I don't see how you can differentiate the two that much... But they are different battles, different invasions with very different outcomes. Fair enough if you can't see the differences but I do and I would suggest that the club rivalries are still on-going whilst the Country feuds are firmly set in the past and the whole "Braveheart" scenario is mainly used in jest.People are still to this day killed from the same reasons as the Rangers/Celtic rivalry whereas I don't think there is a new Bannockburn on the horizon. And I don't think many people would suggest that Celtic are a club that were next to us in the trenches which is why that argument cannot be rendered valid. In fact, there is ample evidence to show that Irish Republicanism (what Celtic traditionally stand for) was a sting in our tail during both WW1 and WW2.Leaving the lights on so the German U-boats could find Britain is one small example, but it's enough to get you thinking.
  11. The filth aren't British, in fact they go out of their way to prove it. So anyone who supports England for reasons stated are spot on the money and perfectly entitled to do so for that reason. Are you honestly advocating that the Rangers fans should offer Aberdeen their support? I wouldn't give they vile rancid sheep shaggers the steam of my jobby, they are beneath contempt. Im just making the point that people support england because they are British, but ignore Scottish teams in europe thats all...not saying they SHOULD, just making a point. In my opinion,it wasn't a point-it was more of a dig aimed at Rangers fans who don't mind lending their support to England. There is a set of fans who loathe the idea of Bears supporting the "Auld Enemy"-would I be wrong in saying that you fall into this category? Not that I'm saying your wrong/I'm right-but there are different attitudes towards supporting England and I think your attempt to say that you must bigotted or racist to follow England and not Celtic is a back-handed way of trying to make Pro-unionist Bears look like inferior supporters.

  13. Well said Foreverabluebell. He seems to think that ignorance is a good thing..... Thanks! Unfortunately he doesn't seem to be the only one!

  15. There is a difference though....those 600 year old battles did involve Scotland and Scotland is the team the Scotland fans are singing about. To best of my knowledge, Rangers were not involved in the Battle of the Boyne. You would have a point though if you supported The Boyne Football Club and sung about the Battle of the Boyne! The songs Scotland fans sing about were important battles in the Scottish wars of Independence and so are very relevant to Scotland, wheras the Battle Of the Boyne only had a minor effect on Scotland and was of far more significance to the Island of Ireland. I can understand people from Northern Ireland signing about it...but Scots? Nay, not for me, I don't really care much for Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. Goodness knows how Rangers became your team.Sounds like you would be best supporting a team with more Nationalist pride such as Thistle or ICT. No need to be so sarcastic as well.I don't go to Scotland games so I don't need that recommendation from you.And to not even apologise for calling Northern Irish people "strange" and saying "God knows who they support" is pretty mindless too.Your arrogance to the people of NI and your inability to appreciate that country's different social circumstances is probably the same reason you love to moan about the English in the way that they treat us. No offence, but I don't give a shit about N.Ireland or the Republic or the IRA or the UVF or 'the troubles' etc...never been there never will....i'm entitled not to care about N.Ireland...I have no relatives from that area and so the place has no historic or cultural interests for me. I'm not sayng it's shit or anything...I wouldn't know as i've never been....i'm just not interested in it! Same goes for Wales and Luxembourg....not for me! On the other hand, i'm very interested in visiting Cambodia as I spent a lot of time studying the Khmer Rouge and will be touring South East Asia in Febuary. I became a Rangers fan because of Davie Coopers football skills...not because I can play a flute or bang a drum loudly or because people in a different country to mine were killing each other! I've evolved way past religion. and you have a cheek saying "Goodness knows how Rangers became your team"....at least I managed to pick one from my own country! You're no better than these celtic fans that come over from Ireland! Do they not have football clubs in N.Ireland? p.s - i'm presuming your from N.Ireland...I can normally spot the over the top Billy Britains a mile off! If you are Scottish then my penultimate paragraph will be rather silly! Aw well I'm going to bite anyway. Actually you've some cheek saying this. If only you had a clue about British history, or if you only had a clue in general, you would realise the close links between Scotland and Ulster, especially between Glasgow and Belfast. My surname is Scottish, and all my family for 4 generations have supported Rangers. Its as much about belonging as it is about religion. Its like a community. But if it offends you I'll stop. In fact I'll tell every Rangers fan in Ulster to stop supporting Rangers because of permanantly offended Batman. Ay right I will! :unionflag: Very, very true
  16. I really hope that Walter sticks to his "we won't be bought out" stance that he had at the beginning of the transfer window. And considering that every other deal that Rangers embark on seems to get floundered by money problems,I would hope this one does too.Hope WS sees sense and keeps the money for better players.I wish the transfer window shut next week to prevent the money-grabber coming and I hope Walter is as quick to arrange medicals for other prospective players.

If you are Scottish then my penultimate paragraph will be rather silly! Place of Birth:Queen Mother's Hospital,Glasgow Raised:Glasgow Mother's POB:Glasgow Father's POB: Glasgow It would seem that your "Billy Briton" detector is a bit off the mark. I didn't become a Rangers fan because I can play a flute or bang a drum either. You've admitted that you don't give "a shit" about Irish affairs so I suggest that you refrain from talking about them unless you've at least done a bit of research. You are insulting the complexities that Northern Ireland faces and it boils my blood that you have not shown a bit of respect considering the lives lost and the constant struggles the nation faces. This is on top of the fact that Northern Irish Rangers supporters are amongst some of the best in the world and their passion and pride for the club is something I'm proud to associate myself with.We don't need your condescending attitude towards the conflict and as others have pointed out- what has religion got to do with this thread or anyone's comments? But apparently I,amongst others, have not "evolved" past religion unlike yourself so perhaps that question is best left unanswered. Why are you calling me "Billy Briton"?Do you use flippant terms for everyone else who supports their nation?I wouldn't call you a short-bread munching haggis so I don't think it's fair that your trying to categorise me or others. To be quite honest,"Billy Briton" feels like the politically correct version of OB.I would never, ever make fun of your love for Scotland or your personal principles so please don't use them on me.

  19. I really hope Wwalter has spoken to him and said that next season will be his chance to shien in the first team squad. If he's been told that he's in the plans as a late sub in the odd match next season then you can't blame him for looking for moire promising opportunities. I would be very dissappointed to see him go and think it would be madness to allow a boy with so much talent and responsibility to leave. But I wouldn't be too happy myself if I was looking at another season of warming the bench just to fill in Fifa Under-21 quota's. Give him a go Walter!
  20. a)Why is that unfortunate?? b)Obviously c)Thanks. d)Really?I wasn't-I wasn't bothered either way and I don't think I was the only person in Scotland who felt like that.
  21. you mean anti english. <_< Nope...according to your logic Manchester United fans hate people from Manchester as they love to see Man City getting beat. The Dutch/Germans love to see each other get beat. Same with Brazil/Argentina and many other nations. Do I hate the English? Of course not, if I had to hate a country based on the most amount of scum/underclass I have met then my most hated country would be Scotland as per head of population we probably have the most amount of wasters/underclass scumbags in Western Europe....but I don't hate Scotland or England as the majority of their populations are good people. Being anti English at sport is totally different to being anti English overall.....i'm amazed some people can't see that The difference between the Dutch/German and Brazil/Argentina examples is that their football rivalry is substantiated by both countries. In the Scotland/England case it seems that the overwhelming bitterness comes from TA supporters wanting to beat England. It's like Rangers playing Aberdeen.Aberdeen fans love nothing more than to gub us and sing stupid, offensive songs because they've nothing else to do with their time. But at the end of the day,I just spend my time laughing at Aberdeen support and feel safe at knowing that they will never be as good as Rangers. To me its "annoying little brother syndrome"-and the TA is making a good job of being an annoying pest to England when they couldn't care less. How would you feel if you were English and constantly heard Scottish people try and bring down your national squad for no real reason? I have met loads of Scotland fans who revel in the rivarly and make it fun and light-hearted and to them I have no problem. But I still don't feel like one of them and you won't catch me singing Flower of Scotland any time soon.
  22. I disagree with you on three accounts. *Many Rangers fans do support England and are mature enough to ignore the outdated ramblings of the Tartan Army *You must be off your head to want Scotland to win before Rangers in an Auld Enemy/Old Firm trade-off.However,I respect that it is a personal preference.I'm not saying your'e wrong but I feel like a different species to anyone who puts country before club in any circumstance. *I don't see what's funny about being good at swimming or Polo.I don't watch those sports but I can imagine that they must involve a lot of skill and dedication. And it sounds like jealousy on your behalf that you will only support England in those scenarios. That's my take on it anyway.
  23. Not neccessarily true! Of course I would have exploded with happiness if we had won the Quad and the team would have been legends in my eyes. But I know there are major pot-holes in our team and winning the quad doesn't hide poor players.I would still have been looking for big changes in the squad during the summer, regardless of whether the league was won or not. ofcourse, they wouldnt get as hard a time though. Yeh,your right there. But perhaps then losing the league will be a blessing in disguise. If our failure puts our poor players out the door faster and highlights our weaknesses to Walter then perhaps it will build more solid foundations for the future.
