NEIL DONCASTER refuses to rush his search for an SPFL sponsor because it’s more important to put principles before pounds. The chief executive says he’ll only do business with brands whose reputations are deemed worthy of the status that comes with being title sponsors of our national sport. That would appear to rule out payday loan companies who are significant sponsors within the game despite accusations they exploit the financially desperate. While Doncaster insists talks are ongoing with a number of interested parties, it could take months before a deal is struck – and he doesn’t think that should alarm cash-strapped clubs. Doncaster said: “It’s more important we get the right partner, rather than we do something quickly. “It must be a partner that’s fit for the game and fit for the SPFL in terms of the image it projects. “We’ve had expressions of interest from a number of parties but it’s important we have the right brand at such an important time in the SPFL’s development. That’s worth waiting for. -------------------------------------------------- Could be no sponsor this season, sure the directors of the sheep, Dundee hibs and the rest will have twitchy bums
