  3. WALTER SMITH admitted today he can't wait forever for the signing targets he wants to rebuild his Rangers squad. The Ibrox club have lodged bids this week totalling more than £6.5m for three players - and all were rejected. Bordeaux kicked out an opening offer of £4m for French international midfielder Julien Faubert. Reports in France say they want £7m for the player, who has walked out and refused to train after telling Bordeaux he wants them to sell him to Rangers. advertisementWigan have still not agreed a fee for Lee McCulloch, and a second bid for Kilmarnock's Stevie Naismith has also been turned down. Chief Executive Martin Bain continues to press ahead for the players Smith wants on top of the five he's signed - Alan Gow, Kirk Broadfoot, Jean-Claude Darcheville, DaMarcus Beasley and Graeme Smith. It is believed he has spent this week in Europe working on two more deals, outwith those already known. Rangers have a crucial Champions League qualifier on August 1, and Smith is anxious to get more new faces in. But he says there will come a point when he'll need to look elsewhere if things run on. He said: "We have a number of bids in for a number of players. We're awaiting replies from the clubs involved. We can't allow it to run the length of the transfer window. We want players as soon as we can but also have to appreciate the positions of any selling clubs. "We can wait a little bit of time for an answer, but not too long because there is a pressing need to get a team together. "It's not always in our hands. You can negotiate and make bids but if they're not acceptable, then we'll have to look elsewhere. We want to strengthen a number of areas. That's why we are going for this number of players. "Obviously, we might get to a situation like Scott Brown where the price goes outwith our needs. If that happens, we'll go elsewhere." Rangers are still hopeful on Faubert. But Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis Triaud said: "Rangers' offer was rejected. Rangers have given the mandate for this to agents. I think they would be better dealing face to face. "We have received better offers from other clubs. I will not discuss figures, but if Rangers or any other club were to offer £4m that would not be anywhere near enough." Faubert's agent, Phillipe Sol, said: "He will not train until the matter is resolved. Julian wants to move to Rangers and he wants the matter resolved quickly." Smith confirmed he wants to keep Andy Webster. The deal is no closer to completion, but the player is still "effectively on loan". That temporary agreement with Wigan is likely to be extended through to January. A tribunal could take until the autumn to rule on Fifa's decision to order the Scotland man to pay Hearts £625,000 in compensation for invoking the clause that allowed him to walk out before the final season of a four-year contract. Smith said: "Andy Webster's situation is as clear as mud. Effectively, we still have him on loan." Publication date 28/06/07
