  1. I'm going to take the completely opposite view here. Given the grand manipulations - that the bigger clubs in bigger countries have been involved in - over decades to take complete control of the games finances, I find it very funny indeed that all of those plans can be undone by simply installing the richest owner of all at one of the unlikeliest clubs.

It's a beautiful, monumental and sweetly poetic GIRFUY to the likes of Real, Barca, Man U, Milan, Bayern and more.

I pray that City can not only win the league and (eventually) the CL, but I'd also love to see them do it for a sustained period. Without the CL riches then all except City and (perhaps) Chelsea will suffer and it makes me happy to witness it.

It's going to be very interesting indeed to hear the anguished cries of England's traditional 'big four' now that City have muscled into that muckiest of closed shops.

Agreed. I don't understand all this bad feeling towards City because they are spending big money. Chelsea and Man Utd have spent big in the past yet no one claims that they "bought" the EPL. Real Madrid spend millions upon millions year after year, bankrolled by the Spanish Royal family and yet the same hypocrytes who slate City for spending big often have a soft spot for Real.

You could argue that every team in the EPL spends a fortune on their playing squad - bar maybe Arsenal.

City are very much a local club who not so long ago went down to the third teir of English football but still took thousands upon thousands of fans to every league match at Maine Road - not something that a lot of clubs could do ... I'm thinking the early 90s when TGFITW could only muster 12000 (or so) for a league match.

As fas as I can see, City are being slated by fans of rival clubs who are running scared of what's happening over at COMS. The club's owners are spending millions redeveloping the Eastlands area so that there will be a lasting legacy of sports facilities there for community use as well as for developing young talent. It's a long-term project rather than just a fun distraction for a bored billionaire.

  2. Yeah it keeps flashing up all the time. Everytime I try to type something into a webpage. Makes typing almost impossible.

I've temporarily switched to Firefox and its working ok, must be some sort of Chrome bug. Any thoughts?

  3. While reality dictates that I do agree with your point, it's easy to say for us a Gers supporters; for other smaller clubs, it would be a helluva wrench to the community to lose their club that has so much of its history interwoven with the local fabric. Fair enough, you can argue that is where things are headed, but try pitching that to Dundee or DU supporters - imagine how we'd feel if we were told we had to join forces with Septic. I know also that ICT is a product of just such a cull/amalgamation and they have thrived since joining forces, but talk to WVB about just what was lost when they did. Och weel, I guess I'm just getting on and maybe a bit stroppy, but I have to say the thought of such harsh actions saddens me more than a bit.

I see your point but the day is fast approaching that this might happen regardless through clubs going bust. Personally I think it would be good for Scottish football if some clubs did disappear.
