  1. in all fairness we are being very critical...hannover didnt have any decent chances other than from a corner when they glanced a header wide - the goal was pure luck. I think both teams were off the pace and feeling each other out for most of the game - it also looked quite warm and may have played havoc with us considering its only our third game. I mean celtic got humped 4-1 by young boys so we shouldnt be too concerned as all pre season games are not a true indication of the impending season
  2. agreed. Plain to see that neither darcheville or boyd like to operate on their own and need someone to feed off. Very impressed with archie-good touch, good pace and a little bit of fire!! beasley had some pace too, but fergie thommo and hemdani looked totally off the pace, hemdanis only saving grace was his reading of the play which was excellent. Back four looked solid though
  3. The simple fact is we now have a midfield that nows how to fight and play for the club - we have alot of depth and options with the likes of hemdani, thomson and fergie central, and buffel, gow, beasley, adam, burke and mcculloch out wide. Celtic are decent, however Donati is a relative unknown and may fade away, Nakamura is as weak as piss and only good from dead ball situations - put any pressure on the ball and he crumbles. Brown should be a great player, but is he really that much better than thommo and fergie? As for Hartley, his attacking potency will be taken completely out of his game as IMO he will become the sitting midfielder. Overall, we have more than enough fight and will within the midfield to match celtics. And when you add probably the strongest central defense, along with the leagues top goalscorer, you have the makings of a club pushing celtic to the wire..
  4. Any links to the highlights of the 4-2 win?? i am interested to see sebos goal
  5. i am a dumbshit - so what does this mean for the club if we have a better turnover??
  6. Can i say, Sionko did put in a few decent shifts last season, however his overall consistency was poor and he seemed not bothered half the time - i think alot came down to the dressing room issues and an attitude problem from the player - if he works hard enough he may just turn out to be a lovenkrands and string some decent performances together- i mean lets face it, burke is almost in the same bracket- for every good game he played, he played another shite one
  7. I was reading one of the papers this morning-cant remember which one- and there was an article about a company that had amassed a turnover of 281mill- it also quoted Rangers as having a turnover of 60mill and Celtic 52mill (or thereabouts). If that is the case, why are we so stringent with our transfers, yet Celtic contunie to splurge- would it not be wise to invest some money in players as a better team will ultimately win games, trophies, CL run and lead to more money into the club? Can someone explain if I am off the ball on this?
  8. if we are it is a very cunning plan by rangers, piggybacking the david beckham wave. Certainly a good idea because if you can crack the states you are talking about alot of money- we have already gone someway into tapping into the market with the signing of perhaps their most well known player outside of mcbride,as well as forging a link with LA.
  9. Personally, i wouldnt mind giving players like dean furman and this new arsenal youngster georgios effrem a run in the first team - furman is a great prospect, similar in style to that of a young barry and think he has a big future. Then again, if he is a gun he maybe worth a punt then got sold on in a few years for big bucks
  10. thats his attitude and thats how he plays and is quite a popular player, wtf did you want him to do? lie down and allow rangers to score? he is a professional who wants to win, full credit to him on another note, i was quite impressed by scott nesbit. looked sharp at times laudrup was a joy to watch as you wuld have came to expect from the prince of denmark coisty couldnt score in a barrel of fan**es, mibbe hes been practicing with seeeeeeeeeeeeeeebo was fun, enjoyable and a great to to make such a memorable occassion in our clubs history Not sure if you are aware but it was a TESTIMONIAL match, not a scottish cup final! I agree that its in Raes nature to be very physical and win the ball, but this was supposed to be a friendly knockabout to celebrate the great achievements of the nine in a row team - for example when the hammer lined up for the free kick, rae charged at it like a bull in a china shop to charge it down - i just thought that at times like that it would have been best served for the players and for the fans to take a step back and relive some of the glory these players heaped on our club...
  11. All i have to say is bring back gough and laudrup! They looked like they never stopped playing...the hammer still look fit as a fiddle but was very wayward with his passing! I was quite unhappy with alex rae...it was a testimonial match and rae was running around blocking shots and doing everything in his power to make sure we didnt score...wet blanket...
  12. not a bad signing in my book! good for mcgregor, he can learn alot from him
  13. The thing we must remember is to take nothing for granted...remember with Brown we thought his rangers leanings would see him with the gers, but money talks...if celtic come in with a good offer, he may just look past his gers leanings and see it as an opportunity to test himself at a better club...i for one think the guy is the best young talent in scotland and if he can fulfill his potential would provide us with a huge financial windfall in 3-4 yrs time...
  14. I am hoping the likes of Buffel (if we dont offload him) and sebo can turn out to be almost brand new signings and put their poor seasons behind them...especially buffel because at his best, he has the ability to change the game, as shown against inter with that pinpoint pass that put lovenkrands in..still need another winger though, and WHITTAKER is not the answer...especially considering he is more a wing back, and we already have the best in scotland with Hutton...cant say paying 2mill for a backup is a smart move...
  15. Ill back at the chelsea and ajax games...its the german games I am interested in as it will be our first chance to see these new lads in action...from what I saw of alan gow for falkirk and against la galaxy, i think he will be pivotal for us and cant wait to see what he adds to us...he really could provide the missing link for boyd in the fact that he threads the ball through defenses..
  16. Does anyone know if there will be coverage of the friendlies in Germany? Setanta are coving the unwashed tour of switzerland and it would be great to get a chance to see all the new signings in action...
  17. I have to say that I was one of many who thought Hemdani was by far our best player last year. He was very cool with the ball, defended well and scored a couple of hugely important goals for us. Having said that, I think Hemdani is the type of player that Rangers can afford to offload considering his worth in the current climate. We are obviously struggling for funds at the moment, and I have no doubt that Hemdani could fetch 2mill in france, higher if we got offers from down south - look no further than geremi who is a similar defensive midfielder and went for 2.5mill. Rangers clearly have the perfect cover for hemdani, and that is thomson - he has a good eye for the pass, excellent tackler and gets balls into the box. What we lack is decent wide men to add attacking threat and flair to go along with the midfield presence of thomson and ferguson - lets face it, fergie will never by a typical attacking midfielder - he has such a passion for winning that he always feels the need to do it all himself and drop back to defend and retain possession - thats just how he is. However to compensate, we need to be welcoming of large bids for the likes of hemdani (at tail end of career) so that we can source fresh explosive talent that will ultimately provide attacking threat in the short term, and a financial windfall in the short term. The scottish game now needs to follow in the footsteps on Holland for example - Eridevise is not the biggest league in the world, however the clubs continually have money to compete because they thrive on developing their talent. Look no further than Ajax and PSV who push young dutch players through and to their benefit because english clubs come in and pay a mint for them - i mean if Ajaz were to sell Huntlaar and Babel I have no doubt they would get close to 25mill for them. This is what Rangers need to be doing - bringing through their youth and younger players that will produce the goods in the short term and provide us with great selling power in the long term. Now what was the question??
  18. Cant see it happening I am afraid, I dare say smith had his back up targets scouted a long time ago...and honestly, I remember willhelmsson at the world cup and his first touch wasnt magic...
  19. So whats the way forward? I mean money will continue to strengthen the EPL, and as a result the championship and lower english leagues will also get better. Where does that leave us? I think the only way forward eventually would be to create a british premier league.
  20. If the chairman can pull off a decent name signing, along with those names he has been currently linked with i believe that will be the start to bringing us back to glory days. I guess if anything the positive is that we are nuturing young talent and they can be potential sold for alot of money.
  21. Is anyone feeling like I am and losing faith in Rangers? I mean, yes we can compete in the SPL,but that doesnt bring in the big bucks. The only way forward is for some decent investment, followed by some healthy runs in the CL. Its sad to see other leagues and teams slipping away from us and I feel that we are on a downward spiral. Thoughts?
  22. I think we are coming across as complete fools in the transfer market. The past few years the whole football market has changed with a considerable increase in funding, especially in the bigger leagues...unfortunately, scotland obviously gets dragged along as a result, and teams are forced to shell out big bucks regardless of how good they are. It seems that rangers are way behind and cannot afford to operate in the market and trying to get players on the cheap...unfortunatly in such a fierce market, managers and owners are becoming so savvy and deliberatly force the hand of rangers by involving the media and forcing the price up when other teams become aware of our interest. We need to be careful that killie dont bottle it like bordeux and refuse to deal with us and accept some bid from sunderland or someone like that for 1.6mill
