  1. Just got 25-1 on Betfair and stuck £10 on it. All Rangers have to do is win. Doesn't matter how.... 10310.gif

I put £35 on a Gers win at 22/1 and another £30 on the draw at 8/1... crazy odds we won't see often... just over £260 pocketed from the draw..crabflute.gifhh.gif21.gif21.gif21.gif

  2. If you think these are tough days I remember playing 3-&-in with the lads down the park during Celtics 9-in-a row years...

Year after bloody year we had to swallow our pride.... but it just tought us to tackle anyone playing who was a Sellick supporter even harder!

No fans flinched as I recall in those days when being a Bear was your religion... sometimes I wonder how the younger fans of today would respond to this situation.. would they get fed up and 'move on', having been used to success for so long, or dig deep?...

Walter's done wonders with nothing to spend, and been loyal as fuck... despite the obvious financial mismanagement of the clubs funds which many should stand accountable for. I don't think it's been deliberate, but cashflow management is the most basic function of the board of any company and it's sadly it's got to this mess before realisation's set in...

    When the going gets tough!

    WATP!

  3. Good, interesting post from Muff... that gives a good, balanced account of the facts as I see them..00000042.gif

I for one would rather the club was not sold than sold to a bunch of chancers which is what Astaire represented.

It is inexcusable that we are in this financial state given that we have known the situation for some time and have then won the league and qualified for the CL for the past two years. The Chairman, CEO and FD hold the majority of responisbility for the financial mismanagement of the club.

Imagine the gap in revenue coming in if we had NOT won the league and qualified for the CL!

...well thats the scenario that a good board of directors SHOULD base their cashflow planning on...there are no guarantees and business, like football, is a funny old game (unpredictable at times).

It maybe that the Board based their actions on a belief that the OF would be allowed to join the Premiership in the immediate term...if they did then that is aldo a rash way to run the club's finances.

Clearly we will continue to suffer as a club, becoming more and more the 'poor relations' to our Southern counterparts, until we do join forces with a bigger UK/Euro league set up. While the latest attempt failed, I think this will be a reality in the next 3-5 years. If this was to happen suddenly Rangers FC would have the missing TV revenue ingredient that would provide the club with massive value on a revenue or profit multiple basis.

Talking this through with my company's FD, he'd rate us as a really great mid term punt for investment, given that the downside is small and managable and the potential upside could be very high. I think that's the golden goose that Murray has also been after all along... but the priority must always be on keeping the club financial performance healthy on a day to day basis.

It seems that a lot of folks on here would love us to go on another spending splurge again and while I love seeing good quality in a Rangers jersey, we can only spend within our means. That means buying better quality than we sell to ensure we don't make things worse. Believe me when the bank have you by the balls that is simply not an option as they have rights to everything including the trophy cabinet. So things will have to be run on a shoestring until we have our neck out the noose either by paying our debt back gradually, finding another new buyer who is willing to put forward less harsh repayment conditions and who sees the opportunity to make real money by repositioning the club in a new, more lucrative league structure.

BTW, forget the headlines today... with our financial structure we will always be up for sale...

So Murray has done some things for us with the right spirit, but had screwed us up as a business needlessly. He is however not the only one at fault.

I for one still pray we can be part of a bigger picture and then be able to afford to compete at the level we once did.

  4. There is a lot to admire in the Premiership, and if all the players click and England play to their full potential they can be class... a la 5-1 v Germany game. I enjoy watching good football.

    But...

The times when England teams take on teams - even small teams - by playing their own Premiership style of football are few and far between..usually it's boring

But as a Scot who supports Scotland, and who lives in England the amount of pish about England going to win every tournament they enter gives me the boak. The arrogance does not align well with performances since 1966... and supporters and press will rip the shit out of any player or team in an instant...

So I'll only support teams that play great football in this World Cup... so far I've see that in Argentina and Germany...looking forward to Spain, Holland and Brazil now...

...and I do enjoy takin the pish out of my workmates today...by supplying a variety of greeen cakes and biscuits for them all to savour!

By the way over the years down here I've met loads of English fans who absolutely love taunting the Scots too...it's to be expected and so it's not one way traffic

I think one factor in the background is that many posters are too young to have seen Scotland qualify for any/many major tournaments

Proud To Be A Ger, A Scot and a Brit...

  5. No way did you guys deserve to be beaten by Slovenia... silly red card...wacko.gif

During the game there were periods where the Algerian team looked sharp fast and demonstrated a great work rate.

This next one will be a Do-Or-Die match for Algeria, which you guys usually respond well to!, so...

I think if you can find a decent replacement up front, there is no reason why you can't give a predictably arrogant and over-confident England side a right good humping ...

    Hope So!

  6. ... minor Google research shows Astaire to previously have been known as Corporate Synergy and then Blue Oar... seems to have changed name after being fined for several irregularities!

    from the Telegraph web site...

"only four companies quoted on the market have been publicly censured, with just one fined. And until last Monday, only one nominated adviser to an Aim company had been fined and publicly censured...... the remarkable saga of Worthington Nicholls, advised by the broker now known as Astaire Securities, is one such case. Astaire Group, the parent of Astaire Securities, is £225,000 poorer after it was fined and censured by the exchange last week"

They were advisers to a deal where the top men enjoyed an initial cash splurge cashing in as shares boosted to nearly £2.00 a share, before plunging to 20p once various financial irregularities were discovered and they left others to clean up the mess after true perfoirmance figures were produced!

    see below:

"Then the cracks started to appear. The company put out a correction to its annual results, stating it had understated its business pipeline by half a bewildering, if positive, revelation. The share price came off the boil, then collapsed to less than 20p in August 2007 after the group said turnover and profit were likely to be materially below market expectations. The stock exchange's disciplinary notice, published last week, spells out how Corporate Synergy and Blue Oar broke the rules and lays bare exactly how expectations for Worthington Nicholls' performance became so removed from reality"

The Serious Fraud Office were then involved....

Sounds like our owners are considering selling our soul to the devil!....

  7. ...live in England - kids brought up in English schools and .... I for one am already sick to the back teeth with all the swaggering shite around me down here...

The wee man has been wearing his Scotland top whenever he can just to wind up all the his school mates and luvvin every minute of it....

If they won it it would only give them all arrogant confirmation that they are indeed the master race and that the trophy is their rightful posession...

Hope they get pumped ... and pumped BAD!

  8. Fond memories.. shipmates through to BB staff sergeant, set record for winning best drilled NCO trophy every year...but it was the fitba on the muddiest grass pitches and glass-strewn red-blaze pitches along with summer camps in Carradale that stays with me best.

    Happy Days... :)

  9. ..also my old man's team, who he had trials for and then got drafted into the Army as a tank gunner (a case of 'if only'...)

Used to walk past their ground often when we moved to King's Park for a while...

    From the BBC website:

"The really sad thing about Third Lanark is that on the playing side they were doing tremendously well. They had a wonderful forward line and had finished third in the then-First Division in 1961, scoring 100 goals in the process. It was a case of someone deliberately trying to run a football club into the ground. Former director William Hiddleston bought up enough club shares to gain a controlling interest in 1962 and set about orchestrating the demise of a fine club. His aim was to sell the ground to a property developer and then benefit from it substantially. Football clubs are very hard to kill - it took a man who knew exactly what he was doing five years to kill off Third Lanark"

    Criminal!

  10. ... erm.. we jumped the fence first......or is my memory playing tricks?..1980 was a while back! There were two major charges before the horses jumped on everyone... one of my pals had 20 odd stitches after a bottle thrown from our own fans smashed his head open (right beside me at the time)..

The fight outside the game afterwards cranked it up to another level completely... thousands going at it!

It was a crap game apart from the battle though..boring as fcuk..

    No Surrender!

Erm uh eh.......No we didn't. A taig invaded the field and took the ball and scored it the Rangers goal then knelt down and crossed himself infront of the Rangers end.

    He then got battered.

    Get you facts straight

    didn't present a fact...I asked a question cos I wasn't sure...wind yer neck in FFS!

  12. Bottom line is we're all looking at Broadfoot as a centre back playing right back and saying he's doin ok.

I agree with that, yes he is doing ok but he is nowhere near good enough to be a Rangers regular at right back or centre half.

He is cumbersome,he runs like Ted McMinn with st Vitus dance,1 cross in 10 is a good one but he can tackle.Therefor he can defend but can't attack worth a fuck with maybe the odd exception....

He is not a shite player he is just not a Rangers player........but i wish Kris Boyd had his attitude.

Kirk Broadfoot is at best a Rangers bench player

    What he said!

  13. Agree re JG, probably because he was more of a 'gerrintaerem' merchant and management not his forte anyway.

But as a flair player, we always needed the team to be up for it and be in an attacking frame of mind for him to fully ignite and take the game to a new level... and usually the fans breath away!

I remember him scoring from a corner 2 games in a row and then in the SC Semi Final at Hampden he went for it again and his the bar!

Having played as a left winger myself, I simply worship the man (present tense!)

We live South of the Border now and my son has now shown the Coop DVD to his mates and stuff... The Davie Cooper Legend Will NEVER DIE!:rangers::rangers::rangers::clap:

  14. ...don't really give a shite what his grammar's like if he can bust the back of the net from 30 yards!

David James is a numpty!... and admittedly Keown comes across quite differently since the operation in Brazil last year (his new name is Shirley by the way...)

    :gay1:

  15. Working hard, playing harder...good effort has resulted in a virtuous circle of confidence.

I believe that wee Steve D had helped by his tremendoud work rate and back cover...

BUT...I don't think the guy has the natural athleticism to compete at the very top in the way that Hutton certainly had...KB has still to prove himself against quality opposition

I sat in Barca and was next to Hutton when he nutmegged Ronaldhinio...how many left back have done that?! (he smiled in appeciation at AH by the way!)

  16. Beasley is the ONLY true left winger in the squad. Thus, he should be played there.

Is the question about a left winger or left midfield (npt the same thing if you've ever seen Cooper!)?

By the way, DMB is a lightweight that can't play in a stiff breeze...

None of the above by the way...
