  1. Yes, exactly. An astonishing story. http://www.thegallantpioneers.co.uk/Peter-Campbell.html
  2. A good starting point for you would be to locate the field where the game was played. Although don't assume that it'll be on the location of a current football ground, many locations have disappeared under housing developments etc since. Ask at the local library for maps from the time ( many are on-line ) and take it from there. Pin-pointing where our Founders played in your town would be thrilling for many i'm sure.
  3. It's a pleasure. Just google what you can and ask at the desk of the library, then take it from there. You'd be shocked to find out what's actually out there. Let us know how you get on although if you need any assistance i'd be delighted to help. Good luck.
  4. Even earlier than that my friend. Scottish Cup Tie. 4th December 1876 Mauchline 0 v Rangers 3. Rangers scorers were : Sandy Marshall James Watson and our Founder Peter Campbell. Here's the match report, second one down. http://www.thegallantpioneers.co.uk/1876.html All 3 scorers that day are pictured here in this team pic. Rangers of course went on that season to contest our first ever Scottish Cup Final v Vale of Leven, the young Rangers took them to 3 matches. Vale eventually won 3-2.
  5. Here's Bendarroch Park in Garelochhead where the boys would have ran in the Annual Sports day and where the Rangers would have played in 1874.
  6. John and Jas Campbell who are mentioned in races were the brothers of our Founder Peter. They both played for the Rangers during our early years.
  7. Once they'd formed the Club the boys weren't slow in taking the Rangers to Garelochhead for the Annual Sports day. Here's a clipping from 1874. http://www.thegallantpioneers.co.uk/1874.html
  8. We'd always hoped that our Founders knew each other before they came to Glasgow. The confirmation was found last night, here they are aged 10 and 11 running in the Garelochhead Sports day in 1868. Astonishing. http://blog.thegallantpioneers.co.uk/wp/

Would all who have booked for this Tour please note that the Open-Top bus will depart from the John Greig Statue at 12pm sharp .We have a lot to cover on the day as we wind our way around the streets of Glasgow. 11. Sunday September 6th 2009 saw the Grand-Daughter of our Founder Peter McNeil unveil the plaque dedicated to the memory of our Founders at Fleshers Haugh. Since that remarkable day, the Founders Trail has been established which has led to many Rangers supportes visiting the location at the Football Centre on Glasgow Green. http://www.thegallantpioneers.co.uk/The-Founders-Plaque-at-Fleshers-Haugh.html
  12. The importance of that series of games to the development of our Club can never be relayed properly. It's nice to visit the location though and let so many others share in the joy of it all.
  13. Cracking articles on Tom Vallance and George Gillespie. It's worth noting the reference to ''Clyde Amateur Rowing Club'' and ''1872'' in the Vallance article. http://www.thegallantpioneers.co.uk/Modern-Athletic-Celebrities-Scottish-Athletic-Journal.html
  14. What we found most intriguing was during the meeting with Visit Scotland when we presented the project the Old Firm divide wasn't mentioned once. No concerns about supposed sectarianism etc, nothing. It was all about the boys story and the positive promotion of Glasgow. I found that really encouraging.
  15. We'll be delighted to have you both along Sir. Here's a link to our Gallery. http://gallery.thegallantpioneers.co.uk/twg/index.php?
  16. We recently met with Visit Scotland with a view to taking the Founders Trail out into the Tourist Market. Our wonderful story continues to spread. http://blog.thegallantpioneers.co.uk/wp/

  19. All were keen Rowers. Tom Vallance set a Scottish Long-Jump Record. Moses McNeil's Cup is on display within Ibrox which he won in a half-mile race..........and there's more. In here : http://blog.thegallantpioneers.co.uk/wp/
  20. That is a fantastic collection. Peter Campbell's Medal is actually in The Blue Room. We tell his tale during the Founders Trail and it's nice to be able to view his Medal at the end of our day.
  21. Scary to think how many price-less items relating to our early years could be lying out there gathering dust. How about forming : The Founders Trail Metal Detection Club.
  22. 1879 saw the young Rangers secure their first ever Cup win against our old foes Vale of Leven. What follows is a quite astonishing story. http://blog.thegallantpioneers.co.uk/wp/
  23. Our unique story just went around the nation there on TV. Wonderful.
  24. What abouit the match report from the Ulster v Rangers Ancients match from 1886 played at Ballynafeigh ? What a find that was . http://www.thegallantpioneers.co.uk/Ulster-v-Ancients-Rangers-November,-1886.html
