  1. Think Murray's been pretty shit so far. First two sets are the same kind of defensive, 8ft behind the baseline & predicatable cross-court pattern kind of dross that saw him get beat 6-1 6-3 etc. by Novak multiple times last year. 3rd set better, but against Stan, Fed, Novak, and the other big names the level he displayed in the frist 2 sets won't cut the mustard. 6-2 in the first set wasn't really a reflective scoreline of how it went. EDIT: Just seen the news about Nigel, I wouldn't be surprised if Murray withdraws after this match if that's the case.
  2. Sousa up next for Andy. Not been up to much in terms of notable wins, but he has slowly been improving over the last couple of years and took a set off Andy here last year, and is currently at a career high No.33 in the world. Needs to get the job done in straights in order to stay fresh later on, but Sousa has some heavy weaponry, especially on the forehand, so Andy you'd imagine, won't be taking him as lightly as maybe he did last year.
  3. Sam Groth basically committing tennis suicide this morning against Murray. Don't think I've ever seen anyone with such a lack of a plan B. Also Hewitt retires after getting beaat by Ferrer. Good lucky Rusty. Even if you did have a really weird career path, not making a single Masters or Grand Slam final after the age of 24, he'll still go down as a tennis great.
  4. Which is why I don't like how Murray's forehand seems to have gone backwards under Mauresmo. Lendl was drilling it into him that he needed more depth on the forehand and second serve.
  5. Rafa on the brink against Verdasco. He looks finished in all honesty. Needs to lose Uncle Toni if he's ever to get near a slam again. 80 winners by Verdasco is outrageous though.

  7. edit: double post
  8. Soderling? Doesn't strike me as an obvious candidate for match fixing to be honest. Or am I missing something here? ?
  9. I believe the women's game wasn't involved. Agassi was crazy enough to do meth so I wouldn't rule out the possibility of him being involved. Then again why throw a match for a £100k if you're that rich. Highly doubt Roddick threw matches, unless he was throwing Grand Slam finals in agonising fashion ?
  10. Whoa, Grand Slam winners involved as well? In the last decade there have only been 8... Safin, Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Del Potro, Murray, Cilic & Wawrinka. So at least one of them has been match-fixing? The obvious ones there are Safin and Cilic... but if it turns out one of the big 4 have been fixing matches this could potentially turn into a Lance Armstrong-level shitstorm. Then again I have no idea why the top guys would lose matches for £50k since that is chump change to them considering how much they make considering prize money + endorsements.
  11. Murray's Australian open outift https://twitter.com/UnderArmour/status/686623785991188480
  12. This could be over quickly, Smith looks like a rabbit in the headlights at the minute.
  13. Not the brightest are we bud? 72 in the PDC and 48 in the BDO. The extra round, if anything, skews the stats in favour of the PDC not the BDO. Extra round means more matches to throw 95+ and 100+ averages, especially so when you consider the most talented players are the ones that will go further in tournaments, it's actually the PDC's stats that should be boosted by the extra round. Same with the 180s count. I've heard people say, "the PDC's thrown 350 more 180s than the BDO". Yep, again, because of those extra matches. As I said before, this doesn't change the fact the top 25 in the PDC are miles ahead of the BDO.
  14. Completely agree, slate the BDO or the shite atmosphere all you want, but slating the players is unfair, the PDC guys are full-time pros, these guys are amateurs and guys who play part-time around a full-time job. I'm not saying the top 25 or so in the PDC or so are miles better though. Besides, outside the top 50 or so the PDC is shite as well. 3-dart averages for the Preliminary Round for this years World Championships from both events. PDC: 79.69 BDO: 84.32 Number of 3-dart averages below 70 in both events PDC: 3 BDO: 0 Number of 3-dart averages below 75 in both events PDC: 4 BDO: 3 Number of 3-dart averages below 80 in both events PDC: 12 BDO: 10 Number of 3-darts averages below 85 in both events PDC: 26 BDO: 31 After this the stats get really skewed in the PDC's favour Number of 3-dart averages above 90 in both events PDC: 84 BDO: 26 Number of 3-dart averages above 95 in both events PDC: 51 BDO: 4 Number of 3-dart averages above 100 in both events PDC: 18 BDO: 0 Sure they don't shoot 95+ averages in the BDO but it's not the players fault, they're guys who have jobs for a living and play darts part-time. Criticise the BDO's management for promoting it as a world champs, sure (and for being a bunch of twats) but criticising the players is unfair. After all, most of the BDO's guys I'm sure would be able to elevate their game to a higher level if they went to the PDC and turned pro (now I'm not saying everyone would turn into an Anderson or MVG), and seeing as most of the PDC guys are ex-BDO it's pretty much fact. It's just common sense really, that more time to practice = better player. And that's what the PDC gives you.
  15. What a sad, shocking story. My thoughts and condolences to his family. RIP Arnie.
  16. Really disappointed Edmund wilted like that at the end, get in the gym son, Goffin is hardly a stamina monster himself, yet he managed to put enough pressure on Edmund to make him wilt.
  17. True, but Goffin isn't exactly as physical monster the same way as Djokovic, Murray, Ferrer are. In fact he's a bit of a powderpuff. I doubt he has any sort of physical edge over Edmund in a 5 set match. Which might be an issue, especially on clay.
  18. Means fuck all. Goffin isn't exactly known for his powers of recovery. As far as I can see I'm not sure he's ever won a match from 2-0 down in a 5 set match. EDIT: In fact he's actually never won a match from 0-2 behind.
  19. Not sure if Edmund or Tsonga.
  20. They've had a piss-easy draw and got lucky through other countries top players deciding not to play. First round they played Switzerland minus Fed and Wawrinka, who's best player was ranked 187 in the world. QF they played Canada minus Raonic and Pospisil who's best player was ranked 285. SF they played Argentina minus Del Potro and Juan Monaco, who are roughly as good as Belgium are, with players ranked in the 60-120 range.
  21. I believe Edmund can overpower Goffin here. Goffin is a great mover but he's lightweight, especially on the forehand side (which is why they picked clay, blunts GB's power, since Belgium's team is really small physically and they have no real offensive power players). If Edmund can keep his head and trade forehand-to-forehand with Goffin he has a good chance.
  22. Novak wins again, yawn. Hope someone knocks his smug unlikable mug down off his high horse in 2016.
  23. Evans has the highest ceiling of any British player not named Andy Murray, but there are doubts over his fitness and he has commitment issues with the sport. If he got it together he'd be top 60-70, no question. He was winning matches on the challenger tour, but that's different gravy to winning matches on the ATP tour. I feel sorry for Leon Smith as he had his hands tied, GB just doesn't have the strength in depth in singles discounting Andy. Kyle Edmund would have played but got injured. James Ward has lost 10 matches in a row and has no claim to be in the team in that kind of form, same with Liam Broady who's won 2 matches since May, after that you're into guys like Brydan Klein and Ed Corrie who play the majority of their tennis in futures and challengers and have never been ranked inside the top 200 (although Klein has been in good form recently). Evans was a justified pick for Leon regardless of whether GB win or lose, he was looking good on the challenger tour and unlike the other guys is proven at ATP (and you could even say at Grand Slam) level when he actually gives a fuck. But right now he looks unfit and he hasn't played against players of this quality for well over 18 months and it's showing. The sooner Aljaz Bedene's appeal gets heard the better. He'd be a very good Davis Cup wingman for Andy, and the doubles guys are doing well at the minute.
  24. I watched Roger play Murray in the semi's at Wimbledon and although he was incredible, I maintained it was a one-off performance and he couldn't maintain that level all the time like he used to be able to in his prime. Of course in the final his level dropped when he lost to Novak. However, I never thought he'd rebound from that and maintain the ridiculous level he has since Cincinnati over 2-3 weeks, but he's done it so far, and right now I would actually say this is the best tennis he's played since 2008 (and yes, I'm aware Roger has won slams in the timeframe I've mentioned), but his overall level at the minute is incredible. Still 1 big question for me though: Mentality. It sounds crazy to say it, but it's been 3 years since he last won a slam, he's been in 1 final since then and was gift wrapped a chance last year, with only Cilic and Nishikori standing in his way at the US Open with all the big guns out. Both times he couldn't produce his absolute best tennis, and with Novak standing on the other side of the net, he's going to need to, because he doesn't have the capability to grind Novak down like Murray can or Nadal used to be able to do. At the Grand Slams Djokovic leads the h2h 7-6, but the key for Roger will be the first set. Djokovic incredibly has beaten Roger 7 times after losing the 1st set to him. Roger's only ever beaten Novak after losing the 1st set once (Dubai 2014). Hoping for a cracker, and Roger to win in 4.
