  1. Thanks CM - thought he'd had a rough time - wasn't quite the same again, if I recall correctly?

No, quite the contrary. He was imperious on the way to our Barcelona glory, and I'm sure won the Scottish Player of the Year after it.

  2. I didnt appreciate how good we were at the time Ajax were a force in Europe and so were we !

I am gutted that i never seen johan cruyff in the flesh play Holland were every kids dream team at the time

and as football folklore the best team not to win the world cup.

That said our team was on that level playing ajax and were never disgraced over two games .

Half of that Ajax team played in the World Cup final in 1974, against a West Germany side which was stock full of players from the Bayern Munich side we pumped on the way to Barcelona.

Ajax were in the midst of winning 3 European Cups, and Bayern were to follow them by doing the same 3 ECs in a row.

Throw in the aforementioned World Cup final, and Rangers were competing with and beating the players who were at the very pinnacle of World football at the time.

    That's what you call legends.

  3. The don't have to accept a percentage. They have 10's of millions of shareholders money tied up in our club. They will fight this at every level and will be an angry creditor at best. Liquidation may see them get a better return than a pence in the pound CVA.

This was round 1, we didn't knock them out.

If the administrators decide to rip up the contract, why would they not go after a refund from the person who gave them personal security on the deal?

To a completely untrained legal eye, that would appear an easier course of action than spending fortunes trying to prove that they were entitled to something from RFC.

  4. The court has made it clear today that the Ticketus contract cannot be breached unless there is substantial evidence that by doing so the administrators are able to significantly improve returns for creditors and improve the chance of returning the Club to a going concern.

Given the strength of the Blue Knights consortium’s bid, and Ticketus’ role in this with its contract remaining valid and enforceable, we question the ability for this to happen."

Looks like TBK could scupper the chance of us getting rid of this Ticketus mob

I'd imagine that the absence of 20 odd million from the creditors' pot would improve returns for creditors?

IS this the kind of "substantial evidence" required, or does this refer to something else?

  5. Highlights of the home game were shown by STV.

For whatever reason the away game was in black & white.

Colour telly hadn't been long on the go at that time. The ECWC victory the previous year was in black and white. Some countries were more advanced in that respect than others.

The first Scottish colour game I think I remember was the tarriers getting gubbed 4-1 in the 1971 league cup final by Thistle, and I think that was also one of the first times STV had used slow motion replays up here as well (the English telly football was a wee bit more ahead of the times).

  6. Off topic for a second.

Can anyone remember a time in the 70s when Rangers would come out and kick balls in to the crowd? I can remember them doing it but don't know the reason or wether it was just for a few games or maybe longer. I'm thinking it might have been part of the centenary celebrations. Any ideas?

Wullie Matheson was good at kicking balls in to the crowd

I remember that. It didn't last long, so could have been the "centenery year" as you say.

  7. Chris McLaughlin ‏ @BBCchrismclaug

#Rangers administrators believe today's news from court states they have final say on whether the Ticketus deal is honoured.

Is this the door open for D and P to say to Ticketus that if they want their money, go and get it from the man who personally guaranteed the ticket?

  8. Wee Doddy scored in both games, an equaliser to make it 1-1 in the home game, and he gave us a 1-0 lead after 3 minutes in the away game...Cutty Young gave us the lead again after Ajax equalised in that game, before we went down 3-2.

Cruyff played in both games, and scored in both.

Other memorable players were Johnny Rep, who beat Alan Rough from about 35 yards in a WC game, Johann Neeskens, and Arnold Muehren who caused a sensation by going to Ipswich with Frans Thijsen.
