  1. He gets no service. We haven't got Davis Ferguson Mendes playing balls into him on a plate.

Which is one of the many reasons we should never have signed him. Other reasons: he is fat, lazy, can't head the ball, Can't control the ball, has a poor attitude, was always outclassed when playing against even half-decent defenders, was shown up for the mediocre player he is when he moved down south, etc etc etc. When he was here before at least he scored against the wee teams, but he can't even do that anymore. Waste of a wage.

  2. In this competition, dignity would be playing the young guys and getting into the latter stages of the competition. Humiliation is what happened last year - playing the 'first team', staggering through to the final, and losing with one of the worst performances in our history. Still, the message the manager takes from that is that he can survive anything ...

  3. The service has been crap, but Boyd can't make moves into better positions, he just expects the ball to come straight at him. He lacks any sort of mobility. When the ball does come to him, he can't jump or control it. A total waste of a salary. The same Boyd who left us because we couldn't pay him in Europe, and who did nothing against Celtic, and who could only score against the wee teams. The same Boyd who flopped in England. The same Boyd, only slower and fatter. Signed by a manager who is utterly clueless.

  4. The professional body is the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) which accredits the best of the University and College courses and graduates from these are then employed by the media organisations. Once in, they join the union (NUJ), but to be honest I'm not sure about the process there. It's possible to get a job in a media organisation without a degree or College qualification, of course, and I suspect that the man you are referring to will have got a pal in the NUJ (Greenslade perhaps?) to recommend him on the basis of some spurious 'journalism' has has had published.

Further to this, I see from the NUJ website that they issue membership press cards to people (including freelance journalists) via a 'gatekeeper' scheme in the UK - (ie through a member organisation), but they don't have a 'gatekeeper' scheme in the Irish Republic, so I suspect that the man in question simply argued that he was a 'freelance journalist' and was let in ... Maybe his pal Greenslade helped with the joined up writing needed for the forms.

  5. A bit off topic but what are the qualifications required for membership of the NUJ ? reason I ask how can a cancerous b#stard like phil3names get his card stamped.

  6. thanks, appreciate any advice you can give.

The quality of the journalism courses is generally pretty high these days, so wherever you are studying I'm sure you will do well. Important to get NCTJ accreditation. The 'Multi-media' dimensions are increasingly important, so your blog idea is sound. Developing your connections with the practical side of things is very important, but I'm sure your tutors will be encouraging you to do that in due course. I hope you enjoy your studies.

  7. Green was always clear that he was in it in order to make a profit, but he stepped up when the shit-hot Scottish entrepreneur 'Rangers Men' (ie the type that got the club into the hole in the first place) were kicking the tyres and wringing their hands. Now we have Mr King, Mr Johnston and co sniping from the sidelines. Save us from these 'Rangers Men'.

  8. This suggests a fundamental to me that our midfield is not pushing forward quickly enough forcing the opposition to push back and defend, leaving the wide spaces for our defenders to receive the ball wide when our goalkeeper has possesion.

Suggests that Ally is still holding the midfield in a line rather than using the flair midfielders to exploit the forward space, and shows why Black and Law are constantly drifting back towards the defence to get posession.

Shame when we have such a natural attacking full back in Wallace, albeit no one of similar ability on other side.

We really need another good solid central defender (or two, I'm hoping Zaliukas can do this) to give the midfield and full backs confidence to receive the ball and go forward.

More tactical thinking in this post than we see from McCoist and his mates in a season.

Surprisingly another solid holding midfielder alongside Black would also allow players like Wallace, McLeod.Law to push forward more often. But who do we have for that extra holding position Peralta is inconsistent and Hutton lacks experience.

Wasn't sure that Bell could read the game in that respect until recently, but it is more the lack of decent outlets rather than his ability to utilise them that is the problem.

Fuck me. I'm starting to sound like a proper football coach, Ally and Durrant out, and Me and A.N.Other RM media poster in ?

  9. no it was the boards job

So McCoist had no say? Presumably he also had no say in bringing Miller and Boyd in, on their current contracts? I thought the manager negotiated his budget with the board, and then got on with recommending the signings. That's why McCoist was so worried about the possible appointment of Nerlinger - he would then have been asked to focus on the coaching, and we all know how good he is at that.

  10. Honestly thought he did well mate. Really worked hard. Great lay offs and excellent off the ball at pulling defenders away to create space for others.

    Pleasantly surprised.

I must have been at a different game.

  11. Agree with Goat's view, with the exception of his idea about bringing Smith back. We need to move forward, with a younger, more modern coach, I think. As for Celtic - they don't seem to be that great at the moment, and I think they have suffered from our absence in the top league, but that makes it even more frustrating that we have failed to use the past two years to build a squad and a coaching culture for the future.
