The "legal" argument is not helpful
If you use a tax avoidance scheme which HMRC declare unacceptable then you have to repay taxes.
This may not always be criminal but the punishment is harsh. It is better to argue consistently that they were loans but the weak link in our argument is no repayments. One repayment cra precedent and this is very important in Scots Law.

Yes The money is from oldco. The point is that as soon as any one individual repays a portion of EBT then that establishes defacto that it was a loan. HMRCs whole argument stands and falls by them asserting that it was wages and not a loan. Interesting for example when some players including Ally took a wages drop for a while... might have been cleverer to take full wages and repay portion of EBT ( Can remember if Ally had EBT)
So... a single repayment of a part of an EBT adds credence to our assertion that was a loan and weakens HMRC case.
This is not an admission of "guilt". This is a means of negotiating and outflanking HMRC and others who assert they are not loans.

In my 60's and from Arden, my first house after I was shackled was in Thornliebank though.
54 and born there till 25. Started going to game at 6 with Dad, Uncles and the bowling green crowd. Those days passageway 7.

No idea if this will work, but sounds a brilliant idea. Well done
Is Thornliebank under water yet?
Not sure mate... have now moved further down the clyde but thats where I was broaught up. Anyone else here in their 50s from the Village
-
You dont have to pay for carrier bags mate...cos you were going to take them back!
EBTs were legal only if they were loans and HMRCs case is that they were not loans but payments. If one person repays a part of the loan then that reinforces their status as loans.
I realise not likely to happen... but if it were me... and I was also a supporter... Id do what I could...Just saying

Many of our players are supporters who benefitted in the EBT years are supporters of our club I have no doubt.
EBTs are loans without a fixed repayment date but are laons nonetheless.
BDO are now appealing HMRCs judgement I understand with the support of David Murray.
So.....
If a couple of high profile EBT recipients or indeed DAavid Murray Himself were to write to Randgers... the dialoge might be as follows
1. Dear Mr King,
I wish re repay some of my EBT now. I wish to pay £100 per month for the next year and will then revisit the situation.
Yours Sincerely,
David Murray or Barry Ferguson or etc...
2. Dear Barry,
Many thanks for your offer and your captaincy of our great club. EBTs are now no longer the responsibility of our club but you may wish to communicate with BDO
Yours Sincerely
Dave King
3. Dear BDO
I wish re repay some of my EBT now. I wish to pay £100 per month for the next year and will then revisit the situation.
Yours Sincerely,
David Murray or Barry Ferguson or etc...
4. Dear Barry,
Many thanks for your repayment Barry. Please make a monthly cheque payable to BDO. This may help us establish that the EBTs were in fact Loans.
Unfortunately when all this is settled there will be no one else to pay but your repayment for the next year is valued.
Yours Sincerely,
BDO
Are you with me. If a single person repays a part of their EBT then it establishes the principle that they are indeed loans.
54 titles ... and still going strong!
Do it Barry!!!

This is an excellent statement and the "Rangers Way"
No washing the dirty linen in public. Respectful to both parties.
Thank you Ally for the good times many years ago.
Thank you for being a voice for the club in the early days post admin.
Unfortunately the management didn't work.
You will be welcome back like we do with all who have had a connection with our club.
No bitterness here

The change of mood in this forum since Warburton has arrived has been astonishing as has the turnaround on the field.
This feels truly like new era.
Like....
Souness arriving
Gazza signing
Wee Mo
These were times I could remember exactly what I was doing.
The Warburton magic is increasing every week. Its hard to imagine how good it could be.
Happy days

Why are we so good
Oh why are we so good
Oh why are we so goooood
(To the tune of the farmer wants a wife!!!... i know i know.... stupid song!!!!)
Not heard it for years but maybe it could make a comeback.
I remember this from the 70s though can remember the exact team we were singing it for
But the others hated it!!!
Also brings to mind the Jim White interview with Laudrup... "Why are you so good...?"
Any other songs from the past due a recall

Allan McGregor, Steven Whitaker, Stevie Naismith.
We've no been the same side since they were forced out.
It was terrible the way that happened.... forcing them away from the club they loved.

Right the rules are.
You have 48 hours to name 3 players you think we will sign by end of June.
Not hope we will sign but actually think will sign.
Scott Allan disnae count!
Just 3 (not 4).
The thing is I cannot confidently think of even 1 I would put money on.
So.... winner is the Bear that gets most correct.
Must be done by Friday tea time cos later than than that some of us might have some tip offs.
The prize is eternal respect from all in the Bears den... something to be cherished and rarely achieved.

On my Rangers albums in 70s
The words were
Hullo hullo we are the Rangers Boys
Hullo hullo You'll know us by our noise
We follow Glasgow Rangers
Our hearts are strong and true
We are the people (who)
Support the boys in blue.
Knees fenian and blood were add ons!
Knees is stupid without the other add ons.
Back to the future!!
Its also got a wee cheeky WATP in it.
Spent all day in loft looking for them.....lost
We really need to keep the anthem without alienating the whole country, leave that to them! That's not hand wringing. I don't wish to sing the f.... blood version nor hear my 17 yo son sing it.

I certainly have no vendetta against Paul Murray.
I just question his CV.
That is called making a judgement
Asley ....has on the whole.... more positives on his CV and seems a more competent and able businessman
-
I was equating the salary of two people with experience of running a premiership club compared to a "Rangers man" who many are advocating should be back in that role who I feel I has a business background which makes him an unsuitable candidate and a previous salary which is excess of the current incumbents.
