  1. Murdoch should play because Stubbs will be expecting the usual plodders. We make it far too easy for the opposition to predict our line up and tactics. More pace and fresh ideas may just make them line up differently but hey what do i know.

Totally agree with you. It's laughable that we can predict the team line up, the tactics and substitutions before a ball is kicked with near 100% accuracy. Does kenny think he's playing football manager just hitting continue all the time???

I just hope if we do have any good prospects in the youth team that they can hold out for a change of manager and with any luck get a fair crack of the whip. They all have something to prove, are most likely fitter and definitely cheaper than the "star" players

  2. How little McCoist understood what really mattered. Does anyone give a toss about last years unbeaten league campaign? Yes, Ally McCoist and that's e only person who does. Mccoists signings and tactics showed complete incompetence at planning ahead and having short, medium and long term plans for his team and the club as a whole.

I think Telfer may still have left even if he got a chance because most of the time he'd be watching the ball go over his head as the defence hoof it up the park, then he'd have to try and win the ball back. He is a forwarded minded midfielder with creativity and that just doesn't go with the pish we play again another failing of mccoist to start afresh in division 3. Maybe he wanted to but he wasn't up to it and just reverted to type, I don't know, but one thing is for sure, as mentioned by everyone else, mccoist has damaged this club for the foreseeable future and it's going to take a lot to put it right again.

  3. In 2012 we did play a majority of young players.

Hindsight just showed they weren't good enough.

So because the players aren't the finished article after one season they are deemed not good enough? Did we not win the league? Also, in order for it to work correctly we'd need a decent manager and coaching staff. We didn't and don't have that so I. Afraid whatever players actually do have the potential to go far are going to go amiss just as Telfer has.

  4. thats just christmas card messaging based on hindsight and hope. Theres not a poster on here didn't think Law and Black were great signings at the time.

Belittle my comments all you want. I was optimistic for us rebuilding as a different type of club that lived within our means. Id be lying if I said I thought all of the signings were bad as there were ones I agreed with. The extent to which mccoist did it though in particular this is summer brining in all the ex players was a complete disgrace.manyone with a brain could see Boyd and co were only a short term "solution" whether they had been more successful than they are now or not.

I did think black was a good signing at thee time, but that's not to say I'd have done that and gone on to buy cribari, faure, argiriou, Kyle, sandaza, Stella, peralta etc. if you read what I and others have said, youth blended in with experience was the way to go, with 4/5 experienced players with the rest being youth. If I stated that we should have played 11 youth players and we'd have a man united class of 92 type team then I'd be expecting to receive peters and rightly so.

Face facts that we missed a chance to try something different and wouldn't be left in such a sorry state of affairs.

  5. People forget quickly when we were in the lowest division in Scotland. I dont remember any youths setting the heather on fire frankly and some of them had a good few games. 1 lad have a decent time of it a DU doesn't really equate to a "lets go with the youths policy".

I am not fan of Mccoist but he had a look at the youths 3 years ago and decided most were not good enough. I haven't really seen anything to suggest he was wrong. That being the case there is something wrong with our youth system setup, because we have nothing to show since Alan Hutton. I believe we should have a youth team that can compete at the Scottish Championship level - if we dont then the youths are not good enough and the system selecting and coaching them has failed.

I never once expected youths to set the heather on fire, however had we approached it right we'd probably still be where we are, but we had significantly more money than we do now and can you say that a midfield of Macleod and Telfer would be worse than black and law? These sort of comparisons would have been all over the park, they couldn't have been worse than our current offering, they'd have cost us less and we'd have sent out a clear message that we will give youth a go, prompting the promising youngsters given the choice to choose Rangers over the others.

  6. Why all these threads saying who will be in the lineup for hibs? We know it's going to be the same useless wanks as every week. Fuckin pish

It's all wishful thinking, trying to retain the slightest shred of optimism or hope. Other than that it's futile.

  7. detest it all you like, it's true. They got farmed out at the start of the season and haven't been shining above the other players they played beside in lesser teams.

So I suppose Telfer wasn't good enough either? The management have missed out there so why should I believe in their judgement with the rest? This management setup tried to buy success and take the easy route, they wouldn't take a risk on youth players anyway whether they could see they had potential or not. Once again the fact that Crawford didn't set the heather alight at Morton doesn't mean that had he played a full season in division 3 and 2 that he'd be as he is now.

My point is some of the players could have done a turn for us, some wouldn't but if we never tried then how will we ever know? Saying they aren't up to standard is a total cop out, I agree though that saying they would all have been great is also flawed, there was a middle ground somewhere using common sense to blend experience and our best youth we had to offer. Also doing this would show promising youngsters Rangers were a good choice to progress your career, instead we lose the likes of Telfer to a team that plays youngsters and also plays a better style of football.

  8. Robinson v simonsen

Murdoch and telfer v black and law.

    Halkett or gasparatto v jigg.

    Gal or mackay v miller

    Hardie v daly or boyd.

    Sinamon? V foster.

We just dont know about the youth because they're never given a run.

Not sure this is anything other than stubbornness by the duds one and two.

Yet we do not the undropables are shite cos we see them week in week out regardless.

Agree with what you say except robinson isn't a youth player, he was a number of years ago. Swap this with Liam Kelly and I agree with the post

  9. most of the youth aren't up to standard anyway.

Detest this attitude. How do any of us know what the players would have been like with the right coaching and 50+ first team games under their belt. Macleod and Telfer turned out good, there you go central midfield sorted, Murdoch seems decent also. The trouble is trying to throw them in now when the best opportunity has left us. We send out players on loan for experience as we can't risk playing them in the top division, well we were in the bottom division a few years back, what did we have to lose playing Alexander, Wallace, mcculloch and possibly another experienced player for good measure along with the youth players we had at the time.

They might not be world beaters but I'm sure they'd be Alloa or Raith rovers beaters.

  10. Our situation made it entirely possible several years ago.

Individuals chose to go down an entirely different, costlier route.

Nowadays we are getting fucked over time and time again and at some point we have to start building for next season in the Championship. I'd rather do that with eager youths than disinterested experienced pros who will be gone come the summer.

I still wonder what Mackay, Gal, Telfer, Hardie, Murdoch did wrong not to even be given a chance when others are atrocious every single week.

They were youths at a club managed by someone completely out of his depth.

We can still play youths but it won't be to the same degree now and it also requires major investment to clear out the rubbish we have. The ship may already have sailed for McKay and Gallagher etc. as they needed to be embedded in our team. Never again in our history will a chance like this materialise. If we had a manager with a 5 year plan we'd have been in the black financially and we'd have a youthful, energetic and cohesive team that played as a team with style. We might not have won any cups but we'd know we were on the right path. Mccoist has driven us off a cliff in all honesty. Now we are waiting to hit the bottom.

  11. The last 3 years proved beyond all doubt that "experience" was not the way forward. Our best youth with a sprinkling of seasoned pros would easily have got us to where we are now. Those 2 years would have seen players make it and some fall by the way side. At 20 or 21 you shouldn't just be breaking in to the team you should be an established squad member. And that has always been our downfall. This arrogance in thinking that we have to buy success. It also falls on the shoulders of the fans who demand we win every game and every competition we enter. The Petrofac cup for example should have been used to play these lads and give them more game time but it wasn't. We didn't win it with this "experience" backing up my point.

Ally McCoist in my opinion has done as much damage to our future as any of the board or previous owners. His "vision" has seen us reduced to the laughing stock of Scottish Football. Feared by no one and beaten by almost anyone.

I have to agree, McCoist tried to buy success rather than think longer term. He signed players and picked teams that would win cups, we didn't win any and the opportunity of blooding youngsters has gone I fear.

I don't buy this talk about the youth not being good enough. Sure we won't have every youngster developing into a superstar but they could have done well enough for us to progress through the leagues and stay debt free. With right coaching they could have been excellent athletes with high work rate and professionalism playing a short passing style of play. I look at Dundee United with envy as they seem to know what they are doing and we could have done the same.

Who knows what we'd have been like had McKay had 70+ games under his belt and Macleod, telfer, Murdoch, Gasparotto, Halkett etc. one thing is for sure Macleod would still be here now as our finances would have been better.

Mccoists short sightedness and lack of bravery to defy the norm have wasted a glowing opportunity to redefine a club from its very foundations but with all the resources any manager could wish for. He attempted to buy success with him profile players and its backfired big time. I'd have accepted defeats in division 3 if I could see we were trying a new style of football and youngsters were advancing, but instead we had to accept defeats with overpaid duds playing the same old stuff.

Mccoist was seen as a hero staying with the club in division 3 but this for me was where it all went wrong, he should have been replaced with a young manager with fresh ideas.

All of this we see now is a result of failings 3 years ago to realise the opportunity ahead. Totally gutted.

  12. Liam Kelly

    Sinnamon

Streete (if fit else zaliukas or faure)

    Mcgregor

    Smith

    Murdoch

    Hutton

    Gallagher

    Vuckic

    Templeton

    Clark

But really what's the point......McDowall will play the usual pish. I fear a doing so why not play the kids instead of the under performing fraudsters.

  13. Any hope I had previously for internal promotions and a positive change vanished when McDowall picked the team against Hibs. Nothing substantial has changed apart from black being dropped for a few games that's about it.

I thought Durie might have influenced McDowall to use some of the youth and whilst surprised at murdochs inclusion in the game yesterday I really don't think this has happened.

I'd therefore have to say no to Durie managing, McDowall will have to remain in charge until we get enough investment (not loans) to pay off the folded arm brigade and get some one in that has NO ties or loyalties with ANY of the players. That's the only way you can ensure objectivity in their team selection.

My only hope is that King and co have a potential suitor lined up so that if the EGM goes their way that we can move quickly on getting them in. No manager would want the job right now, it's a poisoned chalice.

  14. Murdoch should start ahead of black against Hibs. Sinnamon should start ahead of Foster. Liam Kelly should start ahead of Simonsen. Templeton should start ahead of Miller. Gallagher should start ahead of Daly etc. etc.

Lots of thoughts to get some creativity, energy and motivation into the team. Sadly with McDowall in charge none of the above will happen. The 4th of March needs to be the end of this board and this management and coaching set up. Only then can we start moving forward.

  15. We'll limp on to the Hivs game I'm afraid with minimal (if any) changes. What is it they say again? Oh that's right doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is a sign of madness or something like that. Anyway never a truer saying in our situation.

You're right, it's a case of no change on the park until there is change off it. McDowall needs to go as he cant change what he's doing, if that happens a new manager might get more out of our squad and youths until then 90% of the team will remain unchanged week to week.

  16. Today's result and exit from the second cup in the space of a week feels all the worse due to the optimism that was felt surrounding the loanees.

YES it was another awful performance

YES it was another awful result

So where do we go from here?

It's clear our problems are rooted in 3 areas each of which have something blocking the solution to these problems.

The team itself is unfit, unmotivated, overpaid, ageing and lacking talent. So what's the solution to this? The longer term solution is dependent on money and time. What is crucial is that none of the contracts due to expire this summer are renewed, no matter the wage drops that might be associated. It's the one silver lining of mccoists lack of foresight in that the decimation of our squad this summer is actually what we need. Money will need to be spent to get the right players in as out of contract players feels like browsing the out of date section at a shop, you can only choose from what is there and generally no one else wants it. However, there is a short term solution if we can remove the current manager. I saw a young midfielder today replace black and play with composure and a bit of drive. He played two decent balls into the box only for Boyd to stuff up one and the other went for a corner. I believe a mixture of some of the better first team players with energy from the youth team and Newcastle loanees might be just enough to get us up this year. On the performances of Streete and Vuckic I think there were some positives and again getting a manager with the know how and balls to drop the likes of mcculloch, black, simonsen, foster etc. will only improve matters.

The second problem is affecting the first, the manager. He doesn't want to be here, we don't want him to be here but he won't leave without his compensation. He's entitled to it whether we like it or not and I'm sure if we had a few mill in the bank to spare it would have been paid. So once again it comes down to money to solve this issue. Is there enough in the bank to pay someone a small amount until the end of the season? Even if there is it wont attract many given the off the field shenanigans.

That brings me to my last point. The board. This is where all of this nonsense stems from. Mccoist should have been told he had 12 months duringmour first season following demotion. Yet he stayed, squandered what funds we have on players that weren't purchased thinking ahead only of the next year. Yet the board did nothing other than line their own pockets and pay for hotel stays etc. rather than living within our means. The writing is on the wall for them and the sooner those self preserving parasites are as far from this club as possible the better. I'm not saying King and the 3 bears are saints, but in business is anyone a saint? No one in their right mind would invest in Rangers right now with the way our board have wasted money over the last 3 years. Hence the loans by Ashley secured against various assets. We need investment and I am hopeful that the 4th of March will put an end to all of this. Pay off Ashley's loans, get a million or two in to pay off McCoist and McDowall, get a new manager and let them try to salvage our promotion push and line up new signings to replace those who simply must leave in the summer.

I still believe if we can get a new manager in as soon as possible after the 4th if the board are removed then we can bag a play off place and get up assuming we make some serious changes in the team. Simonsen, foster, mcculloch, black, Boyd, and Miller should not play for the club again. Liam Kelly, sinnamon, Murdoch and Gallagher need to feature along with the Newcastle boys. Ideally I'd get McKay and Gasparotto back from loan.

  17. Gordon would be on a good deal more than Simonsen, it's not like it would be like for like. I also don't think he wanted to be just back-up either.

Competition for places is great but we were and are not in the position to have more high earners who might not be first picks (at the time Bell was our No 1). Simonsen seemed happy to have a back up only role.

Again Kyle would have been a low cost option compared to Gordon on a short term deal.

If you believe what Kyle had said in his interview I'd question whether he was low cost option. Surely using the likes of Little, Hemmings, Gallagher etc. would have been the low cost option.

At the very least if we didn't sign Gordon surely we have better options in our youth ranks as cover? Then bell gets injured and we sign Robinson so evidently not.......that's assuming our management team knows a good player when they see one.....missed the ball with Telfer (and it's not like we are years down the line when you see how good he is we are talking months) so I really have no faith in he management in spotting a good player when they see one.

  18. Hindsight is a great thing. He is a great keeper, not many people would disagree with that, but, his injury record was probably what made most peoples mind up in regards to signing him.. he appears to have stayed injury free and is showing glimpses of his old self..

Is it really hindsight though? At the time bell was fit so replacing Simonsen as back up with Craig Gordon as back up would have been low risk. Also did injury history stop us signing Kevin Kyle?

  19. I don't want to speculate on how much Gordon would have been paid versus Simonsen but unless it was two or three times that of Simonsen the surely it would have been better to bring in Gordon?

I think his summers signings were beyond atrocious. No effort was made to find new talent, we just went and signed old players who are also old or just not good enough. Did we need foster and smith? Did we need Boyd and Miller?

Mccoist never had a medium to long term plan, he was probably always going to leave after this season anyway, just enough gas in the tank to get to premiership then leave the next manager with an ageing squad with overinflated contracts or the other half of the team being out of contract. I think resigning Simonsen falls into that bracket also. It was the easier option, much in the way it was easier to sign Kevin Kyle than say Rory Mcallister in division 3.

  20. Can you believe that our management team in the summer opted to give Simonsen an extension rather than booting him and signing Gordon?

Before Gordon's injury he was Scotland's number 1 and what has Simonsen achieved in his career? Our goalkeeping coach, physics and training facilities helped Gordon get back to fitness and then we just say cheerio. What a missed opportunity to create some real competition for Bell.

There are numerous points in the last three years where the decisions made have sent us down the wrong path, I just cannot wait to get a new management team that knows quality when they see it whether it's established players or youth, so that incidents like this and Charlie Telfer are eventually forgotten.

  21. Vuckic looks a tidy player with a good left peg. Looks like he likes to come deep to get the ball, will run with it, not afraid to take players on or tussle for the ball and then seems to be composed enough to finish in the box or have a shot from outside. Looks ideal for the number 10 role......watch him play left mid or some daft nonsense.

  22. McDowall was out saying yesterday the signings were looking good as he cast his eye over them in training.

    Now he's out saying this?

That aside, a boardroom should never be picking the team, it's embarrassing and shows how power hungry these people are.

Clearly he made the statement yesterday before the board ordered him to be playing the 5.

I agree that no board should ever pick the team however with any luck these guys are good and can help us get promotion.

We want promotion but at what cost to our ethics as a football club.

  23. So you want to stay in this league with McDowall as manager?

Absolutely not, the reason I want the EGM to happen is so that we can see where we are going and who will have control. I'm not siding with anyone as everything is hypothesising and supposition. All I was sayi is Ashley needs Rangers in the top tier to be of any use to him, hence the loans. The boards decision to force McDowall into playing the 5 players is due to the belief that McDowall would use them to warm the bench in favour of the Teflon XI which cannot happen and it's also an attempt to undermine the manager and get him to walk.

I'd be using whatever funds we have that we want to use to pay Eagles with, assuming the stories are true, to get a manager in for the remainder of the season with a 1 year extension if we get up. NONE of this will happen until the EGM takes place and we can move on, so that's my reason for wishing the EGM happens sooner rather than later, we have no time to waste.
