  1. If we stay down we will be lucky to get 20-25k fans inside Ibrox.

I guess these figures would depend on the manager for next year, the signings made over the summer and the style of football on show.

Let's say we managed to get a marquee signing midfielder or attacker who was creative and gifted (now that's a far stretch of the imagination that they'd sign of us in the second tier of Scottish football but this is just hypothetical). I'd imagine that would keep the numbers above 30k provided we had moved away from the dull football.

I want to see this season end for better or worse so that we can hopefully see the pieces fall into place for next year. If we are in this division next year with McCall in charge I can see your prediction being right. He is better than mccoist of that there is no doubt in my mind I just don't believe he's the man to take rangers forward again nor put bums on seats.

  2. 5-3-2 (wing backs).

    Bell

    Law mcgregor zaliukas gasparotto Wallace

    Murdoch shiels vuckic

    gallagher

    Hardie

I think that defending we'd have enough behind the ball and attacking we'd get enough men forward to cause problems. Shiels and Crawford can also drift wide to offer the overlap with the wing backs.

Gasparotto for me is the one risk but given the reports coming from airdrie I'd say it's less of a risk than mcculloch or mohsni.

Hardie up front for me with Gallagher just off him to give a bit of pace and energy up front as all we'd get from Clark would be lots of running and no end product.

  3. I can't help but feel cheated. Those in charge have managed to blow a chance to reinvent the football we play and are synonymous with, instead we've had 2 and a half seasons of long ball with overpaid and undermotivated players followed by some slightly better football with the same bunch of players.

We've seen 1 player come through the ranks and then get sold for buttons and we've seen another youngster jump ship and do relatively well in the SPL.

At the end of a journey the call is usually "All change!" which is about as fitting an expression as I can muster up just now. Everything next year has to change regardless of division.i only hope that this sorry excuse of a squad can drag themselves over the line and get up.

  4. Really good post.

I think it's easy to forget just how bad this squad really is at times and that McCall didn't put any of it together.......but that doesn't mean I can excuse decisions like putting Boyd ahead of Gallagher just because he scored 2 for development league team (after refusing to play for them) while Gallagher has scored more league goals than Boyd in the championship and then comes back to score almost every game for the development team.

And don't get me started on mcculloch, I cannot fathom what went on in his head yesterday to make that substitution. You dropped him and played mcgregor in his favoured position and it was working. Clean sheet by 80 mins so why the hell would you bring mcculloch on and reshuffle the defence?

So I hope the OP is right in saying McCall has used the games as a way to gauge the squad however I suspect he was trying to get second. If we had won every game under McCall going into the play offs we'd be buzzing and teams would fear us but looking at another post its Actually us who are in fear of QoS.

Saturday 9th May will be the marker in the ground. We go to a ground where we have lost twice, scored none and conceded 5 to play our quarter final first leg. McCall needs to have learnt from the mistakes of his last trip and mccoist failures at the first attempt there. For me if mcculloch is in that starting 11 then my worst fears will have come true, McCall cannot learn from his mistakes.

  5. I think that Saturday's games will have a large bearing on the team that makes it to the final of the play-offs.

    Us

We play the champions at their own ground. What a chance to prove a point, to absolutely nail the tactics, play with pride and professionalism and get the result we need.

    Hibs

Away to a decent Falkirk side who play their last competitive game before their cup final. Falkirk players will be desperate to win a place in the starting 11 at Hamden so beating hibs again would certainly help them do just that. If hibs win then they do away with the semi final loss, they finish 2nd and will be full of confidence.

    Queen of the South

Travel to Livingston who have their own play off concerns. Could be a tricky match for queens and losing their final match of the season might just make them wobble enough to doubt themselves. If they win and we finish 3rd they know they have scored 5 without reply in our other 2 meetings at Palmerston park, they will be brimming with confidence.

Probably goes without saying our best chance of going into the play offs with the psychological edge is to win tomorrow and queens to lose. I think we can take hibs regardless but losing both games so badly away to queens we need them to take a knock. If we finish 3rd and put queens out and lay that ghost to rest we would then be flying into the game with hibs.

  6. A manager for me must be tactically sound and must have the balls to make tough decisions for the benefit of the team. I'd called for templeton to play and when he did and played about as badly as anyone could McCall dropped him......tough decision? Not really. McCulloch gets sent off for a stupid "challenge" against hearts and is at fault for a number of goals of late. He's our captain whether we like it or not but does that mean he can't be dropped? Of course not. It's a tough call to make but not only does it mean McCall keeps to his words when he joined but it also sends a clear message that no one is safe. I'm pretty sure that managers who's own son played for their team have found a way to drop them while 3 managers this year can't drop mcculloch.

However, can we just back the team as much as we can over the next few weeks to push for what we all want.....promotion. Once the dust settles we can sort out the manager situation but I think it's clear that mccalls only chance of getting the job is getting promotion, fail to do that and I am certain he won't be in charge next year.

  7. We need to start with the strategic approach to the remaining games. I think the 3-5-2 to flood the midfield and look for solid and professional performances are what we need to get up.

I honestly couldn't care less if we only go up winning games the way we did in uefa cup run, it's the result that counts. Keep it tight and get some lads up front with energy and who can finish and we might just get a happy outcome to our journey.

  8. It's a depressing reminder how bad things have been this year. For me vuckic gets passing marks and had he been here all season he'd be a shoe in.

Hopefully next year we have a player or two that perform well and excite us.

  9. Somewhere between A and B. I don't think flooding the team with youth is the way to go. The squad should have a low average age but I'd say we need 4/5 core players to play alongside the youth (some from auchenhowie and some signed). I think spending money on a good scouting network is a priority.

Doing what we have done since administration won't cut it. We need to sign players who aren't over the hill and aren't paid over the odds I.e.have a wage cap.

  10. The most important thing is to win, regardless of hibs result. We need to return to form since if we do have a further 6 games to play that we'll be up for it. let's hope we play as well as we did against hibs last time or first half against hearts and whatever happens after the 90 happens. If we come good now we can put QoS and Hibs to bed and hopefully the SPL side too.

  11. I think people want to believe in the contract clause as they can't believe that all 3 men that have picked our team this year all highly rate mcculloch.

If there is no clause and McCall talked out his arse about dropping under performers he's not the manager for me next year....promotion or not.

  12. Why the need for this? Seriously. We're pushing for promotion and trying to look forward and forget the last 3/4 years and we could do without this. I'd have expected nothing less for this comment to have come from Derek Johnstone but Walter would be better washing his hands of the McCoist era.

McCoist with all the money and time in the world wouldn't have been successful, let's just end it there.

  13. McCoist's reputation as a MANAGER s heavily tarnished ... as a person, he is still a hero.

They are very different things & too many get them constantly confused

    Totally and utterly INCORRECT.

McCoist's reputation as a MANAGER is non existent......as a PLAYER, he is still a hero, as a person for still taking his salary when the new board are in and we have to still take out loans to just pay the players salaries is just wrong. I really thought he would have done the honourable thing so for me his reputation as a person is heavily tarnished.

  14. our potency upfront of late has been dire. McCall seems to have settled for Miller and Clark with boy coming on at 60 if things have gone pear shaped.

Now while I have no problem about Clark and Miller as each has contributed in some way to the collective efforts of the team, I can't say the same for Boyd. he looks more like a darts player than a professional footballer. Even if he was incredibly unfit but could still bang in the goals you could argue his place was merited (as many did in his first Rangers spell where he contributed little other than the goals but that's what a striker is there to do). This is why I can't understand McCalls persistence with Boyd when he has 3 league goals to his name whilst Gallagher has 5 and scored them for Cowdenbeath. Based on the facts it would appear Gallagher should be at least on the bench, and going by McCalls original statement that under performers are dropped that should be the case, so that must mean there is something we don't know that results in Gallagher not being selected.

It's frustrating not knowing as I feel someone like Gallagher who runs at players, clearly has an eye for goal and has played well for us in the past is being overlooked.

  15. according too many on here we should be expecting all experienced players dropped to gamble on youth for the run in.

cos that would be the sensible option........

Aye because boyds experience is really coming up trumps #playeroftheyear

  16. pish, we are at the tail end of the season with pressure ramped up to be promoted, experienced heads are needed at this stage, not rolling the dice. if we lost all our remaining games after making suggested changes i doubt you'd be sitting there typing "ah well, at least the youth played well...."

We need to go up so you take the experienced players, you blend it with proven younger players and you adapt tactics, you don't send the kids out to play the men.

When did I specifically say to play 11 youth players?

All I am saying is that if you're experienced players are clearly offering you nothing and in some cases are harming the teams chances they shouldn't be anywhere near the team regardless of experience, contract, captaincy, winners medals etc.

You get selected on merit and quite frankly neither mcculloch or Boyd merit a place in the team experience or not. To put gallagher on the bench instead of Boyd would not be a roll of the dice as you put it. He has scored more league goals than Boyd has this year. Playing Sinnamon or Mbabu at RB would be more of a gamble so why not play Crawford there again, we kept a clean sheet against raith and as soon as mcculloch is back he's straight in to the team.

  17. when you go into battle you don't drop your experienced warriors for a new blood. this will be no different - seasoned players unless they have a howler all game.

he'll change tactics, not many players will be dropped and if they are it'll be for the usual shower on the bench.

If this was actually accurate then we might as well sign mcculloch up for another 5 seasons.

When you go into battle if your experienced warriors can no longer pick up their sword do you still send them out? Saying unless they have a howler ALL game is just ridiculous. It only needs one or two key mistakes to be made to justify being dropped. Continuing to play under performing players undermines the managers respect since players know they can get away with being awful and still get picked. The rest of the squad pick up on that and standards drop. You have to command respect you have no right to it by simply being manager, McCall said all the right stuff at the start but his actions tell another story.
