I've seen us play worse under previous managers. We pinned them back but couldn't break through. That's partly management and what they work on in training. But it's also lack of quality in the final third. We need to spend decent money/wages on a quality striker and attacking mid/winger.

I was wondering that myself mate. I just hope we can get another couple of players in before the window closes or it's going to be one long season for us. I agree though that we've played worse, and we do seem to be a lot more solid unit than last season, but we really did need to get off to a flyer this season from the start. We have failed to do so I can totally understand all the frustration on here.

I think the reason for giving him another contract is because money is limited and there were other positions / players that needed changed more urgently than KM . I'd say , with the possible exception of Wes , he was our best player last season.

I'd have to agree with you from what I've seen so far this season , KM hasn't quite recaptured his form and it may indeed be a season too many for him . I suspect once Morelos and Herrera find their feet , PC will be using them as our starters , leaving KM as an impact sub against tiring defences .

    Hopefully that will happen.

Hmm...Yup, but that requires a bit of patience, something our support is not exactly renowned for. In fact, going on some of the threads I've read on here, PC might be under horrendous pressure already, if we get cuffed again on Saturday.

  3. I know it's a weak excuse to blame the ref but he was very poor; and the way he was constantly blowing his whistle every time Morelos put in a strong but fair challenge was a disgrace. There were a few challenges in which he was just far too strong for the hivs defenders in the 50/50 balls and he ALWAYS gave the decisions against us. Dreadful.

  4. Never really been a fan of the guy tbh, but he certainly can't be blamed for the pish result today. In saying that, we definitely need strengthening in the full back areas to have a real chance of really competing this season.

  5. This is definitely the reason why we should really push the boat out to bring in Walker before the transfer window closes. I think the balance of our midfield would be a hell of a lot better with him in it. Consistency is also not Josh's strong point.

  6. Agree with a lot of the above comments about him. He looks a player who has everything in his locker. If he keeps progressing at this rate under us, it's going to take a hefty transfer cheque from some other team to get him. It's a win win all round for us.

  7. Big fan of the guy now. I can see why Pedro brought him into the club. His crosses and lay-offs are superb, he works his arse off to win the ball back when he loses it, and his passing and awareness of players around him is excellent. I still can't believe we only paid 500k for him. Looks amazing value for money so far. Brilliant.

Why is he so unfit with a full preseason under his belt?  I know he has only played sporadically under Pedro but the Mexican season can't be long finished and Herrera is in good shape so what's the deal?

I was actually wondering that myself mate. I remember reading up on him when he first signed and thought he looked a massive gamble for Pedro. It's literally like tossing a coin in the air with this guy - he's either going to be an absolute smash hit for us, or just another Mexican version of Joe Barton; albeit a more expensive failure.

Ok so maybe this post wasn't in best taste, beers clouding judgment maybe...but at no point did i slate Herrera, I think he'll be a good 2nd striker for us and think we'll see the best from him with Morelos beside him rather than Miller. The point I was trying to make was that i don't think he'll score alot of goals for us, albeit I could have put it out there a better way. ??

I quite like him. I know he won't beat three men and bury the ball in the top corner, but his link-up play was excellent yesterday. He also did his defensive duties very well at set pieces in what was a very physical game; and by fuck we sure needed it as motherwell were playing route-one football. Remember, he's still settling in, and it must be a culture shock to him at the moment, but once he gets a few goals under his belt, I'm sure he will be on his way to being a decent signing for us.

That team we fielded in the first game looks fucking dreadful.

This. And to this day, I still can't believe that Cribari actually played in Serie A and was supposedly recommended to us by Amoruso

  11. He's the real deal. Even that big giant that Sheffield brought on as a sub in the second half, who looked about 7 feet tall, didn't even get a look-in with big Bruno sorting him out. Brilliant signing and a true leader.

Funny how he's using every trick in the book to try and slither out of the argument. The guy clearly hates us with a passion.

Brilliant how well folk are getting stuck into him though. He might think twice next time he wants to fling shite

No chance. I'm afraid twats like that thrive in the BBC and get a 'kick' out of putting the boot into us at every opportunity.

  13. Another odd signing, but hope does well and we finally get a fee for him. Memo to Rangers scouts: Can you now keep away from100m track and field race courses when identifying future players and actually check out their ability on a football field first, before recommending?

  14. He was terrific today and the good thing is it looks like there's a lot more to come from him once he gets up to full speed. Looks a very good signing so far - even Tav had a new lease of life with Candeias playing just ahead of him; and they have the potential to form a brilliant partnership down the right flank.

  15. A strange signing, but wish the guy all the best. Such a pity though that the deal didn't come with a 'buy one get one free offer', and Northampton could have taken Windass off the wage bill too.

  16. Agree mate. It was not fucking Barcelona we were playing the other night! We fell for it line hook and sinker playing both a very slow tempo AND two holding midfielders from the start. There's going to be plenty of grounds we can deploy that line-up, but Tuesday evening, against part timers, who I had never even heard of before, was not one of them!

One of the young guns could hardly have been a worse option; not that I think either DM played particularly bad, or even play Holt whom, far from being great, at least offers a bit more upfront. Personally wouldn't have done any of the above. I know there seems to be an aversion to a 4-4-2 these days for some bizarre reason, but if you have the squad we had available, train, prepare for and play a 4-4-2 for Christ sake. We were against a team of plodders who showed the square root of fuck all at Ibrox.

Spot on mate. Don't get me wrong, I think Rossiter and Jack are very good players, and going to do a good job for us this season, but it's no coincidence that we almost scored in the last 10 minutes on Tuesday evening, when we started to load their box with strikers (Miller AND Herrera). I'm only saying that, on this occasion, due to the calibre of opposition we were playing, and the fact they were playing a fucking 5-5-0 at times, I would have preferred two strikers on from the start and go for the jugular!

Windass has plenty of pace but he's shite and his lack of ability indirectly resulted in the other team scoring a couple of goals.  You would rather he started the match instead of Rossiter or Jack?  Our other midfield option that night was Waghorn.  You're asking for pace and by "injection" I'm assuming you mean quality?  I don't think we have those type of players at the club.

I didn't even mention Windass, you did. Holt would have been a better option imo. He's not a great player, but he's good enough to play against the 4th best team in Luxembourg ffs, and he can shift up and down the park a lot better. I do agree with your comments regarding Windass, but like I said you've got your opinion and I've got mine.

I'm not making excuses for the team and it was indeed a hugely embarrassing result.  However, starting the game with two CDMs was the right move.  He was treating the opponents with respect and defending the lead with a view to getting a goal as and when things opened up.  If we started the game with Windass instead of Jack or Rossiter I'm not sure if it would've made much difference anyway.

It was the "right move" in your opinion. I completely disagree just like I did with our manager on Tuesday evening. We badly needed pace and injection in midfield - we could not achieve that with two holding midfielders and Niko. No way. And at the risk of going round in circles, we will have to agree to disagree.

I'm certain most managers are happy to defend a lead away from home in Europe.  Progres were going to come at us at some point during the game and out strategy would've been to get a goal once things started to open up.  The way we set ourselves up seemed reasonable enough we just couldn't execute it.

Normally I would agree with your comment had we been playing a team of good quality. However, we were playing a part time team who were not great at all, but well coached and knew exactly what their individual roles were during both legs. We had to play with pace and a very high tempo from the start, and put the game to bed early on, without even waiting for the "game to open up" as you say. Anyway, I think the final result tells its own story about the way we both set up and played, tbf

We had a youth player in central defense.  A lad who hadn't even played 10 games at senior level.  We went in to the game knowing that if we didn't concede we would win the game.  You don't think two CDMs were a good idea?

Nope. I don't. I said to my mates at the start At times they were playing a 5-5-0 with the occasional 5-4-1, so we could easily have coped with just Jack doing the job of a sitting midfielder. They were rubbish on the break with just a couple of shots at goal. Just my opinion though.

I don't think enough emphasis was put on the fact he took a knock early on. He did not loom comfortable at all after that on Tuesday.

More worried that Pedro couldn't out-fox their manager than I am individual performances.

I said something similar in a different thread mate. They broke the play up and slowed the game down to a crawl, which suited them down to a tee. As the game went on, like a lot of bears, I had a bad feeling it was going to end the way it did. We didn't get beat by a better team, but by an opposition coach who seemed more savvy over the two legs; and a big slice of lady luck too, but I guess you make your own luck in football.

Half a game, he looked very unfit and was struggling on the state of the pitch, he didn't get any service at all either which didn't help. I was incredibly harsh on him in the match thread and said he looks dug shite. I think it might have been the anger talking to be honest..

He'll be a good player for us I reckon, having seen the way he can put the ball away and he looks very quick when he's fully fit, still excited about this signing even after Tuesday.

Agree with all that. Playing up front as a lone striker on his debut, with very little service, against a team banking-up was always going to be a tough ask of him. Hindsight is a great thing, but I wonder how the game would have transpired had we not started with two holding midfielders, and played Herrera alongside Morelos instead. Anyway, I've still got a feeling it will come really good for this guy.
