Yup, was baffled when I first saw the line-up too. Looked like Gerrard was trying to play a 4-3-3 narrow, which is fine if we have Tavernier and Barisic bombing down the flanks on the overlap whipping in dangerous crosses; but Tav had an absolute shocker today (like most players), and Gerrard clearly doesn't even trust Barisic to start in these games. The worrying thing for me today is that a few of our players look as if they are quite happy just to hang onto the scum's coat-tails, but not comfortable to 'step up to the plate' when it really matters. A bit worrying tbh.

Decision making in the final 3rd

Most of the points I agree with, except the Arfield bit. Considering he cost fuck all, he's been a terrific signing for us and has had more good games than bad, definitely. -
Absolute fucking shambles
Truth_is_out_there replied to Jimfanciesthedude's topic in Jimmy Bell's Kitroom
We lack a genuine winner's mentality, struggle to make simple 3 yard passes, nervous as fuck at times, struggle to influence the match....and that's just our Captain. -
When he signed it was reported that he is versatile and can play right across the back four. This is total bull. Jack of all trades and skilled at none. Dreadful tonight.

Absolute Fucking Warriors

Just brilliant. What an amazing performance, especially second half. No doubt the scummy media will be making the usual noises about 'giving referee decisions to make' and how 'lucky' we were in the second half, blah blah, but fuck them as make your own luck in football. Roll on Sunday! -
Why not go for more goals and kill the game off?
Truth_is_out_there replied to Gandhi1872's topic in Jimmy Bell's Kitroom
We looked incapable of finishing the game off today. Clearly motherwell not playing in Europe helped them big time, as some of our players looked completely spent in the second half. I knew the equalizer was coming and the timing of the late substitution did us no favours. Brutal stuff from Tav though losing his man twice today and costing us. . -
He looks absolutely horrendous mate, but I agree: it didn't help that he came in late in the transfer window, so his fitness levels are nowhere near the rest of the squads. It will be interesting to revisit this thread in a few months once he's had a few games, and his overall fitness and sharpness improves.

He did fine tonight and I think Gerrard will pick and chose the games he starts once we have a full squad. He's really got to cut out all the daft Hollywood flicks and tricks he does, or we will get punished big time in certain games as the season progresses.

Even better

Spot on. And having a good run and exposure in Europe means when the english clubs do come calling, they will have to offer the proper rate and some to get him; instead of the penny bag offers we've been getting from them so far for our players.

Good post by the OP. Maribor had a10 - 15 min spell in the first half were they were dominating possession, winning their 50/50s and got their goal, but that was about it. It's a bit rich for some commentators to say we were "lucky", and if the game had ended 4-1 or 5-1 to us, nobody could have complained - even the taig scum at the BBC.

Superb performance. There was no way Gerrard was going to bring him into the club unless he thought he could do a job for us in midfield. So far, it seems the bigger the game, the more he rises to the challenge; exactly the type of player we have been crying out for in many a year.
-
Just brilliant! Looks a cracking player and good value at the price. Can't wait to see players like Flanagan and Barisic getting stuck right into the scum. They will relish these games, and the days of us being bullied all over the park against them have now hopefully come to an end.
-
Must admit, he was an odd signing. The kind of player Warburton would be expected to sign when he was here. Fine against lower league opposition (like Dorrans), but really poor in games like these and against the scum. I knew he was never going to score with his chance. Glad there is now a bit of competition for his place this season.
-
I like the two of them so far. They're raw and Kent could probably benefit from having a natural left back behind him, but any player who makes sure guys like Windass &Murphy know they have to really up their game now to get into (and stay) in the team gets the thumbs up from me. Ejaria will have to try cut out the complex stuff and keep it simple, but at least he's got the skill and ability to make a yard for himself under real pressure in midfield, and make a forward pass; something Halliday, Holt, Dorrans and Docherty all struggled to do for us last season. So far so good...

Ex-manager talks about Sadiq
Truth_is_out_there replied to BlueThunder's topic in Jimmy Bell's Kitroom
There is actually a podcast about him in the daily rhebel if you can suffer it mate. The interview was given by a Scottish journalist who lives out there and repots on dutch football. Can't remember his name, but he's watched him a lot and to paraphrase: He's quite crap in the air for someone so tall and skinny. He has brilliant skill for his height and wonderful pace when up to speed, but he thinks the player is joining us a season too soon. Hope Sadiq proves all the doubters wrong - myself included. -
What Impressed You The Most?
Truth_is_out_there replied to BridgeIsBlue's topic in Jimmy Bell's Kitroom
Watching two central defenders who don't look afraid to do a solid slide tackle and put man and ball into row z if required - something we all thought we would be getting from Bruno Alves last season. -
McGregor, Arfield and Goldson are definitely an upgrade and I think they will make a huge difference to us; good strong characters too. Hopefully Murphy will really kick on this year and do even better than last season. Katic, Flanagan and Ejaria, I don't know too much about, but I would rather trust the judgement of Gerrard to spot a really good player, who can do a turn for us, than the magic hat or the nutty professor any day.

Welcome Connor. Good to get deal over the line. I saw him play the full 90 mins against Watford and he was solid enough. Didn't realise that was his premier league debut that night and he wasn't really tested, but still had a good game. He will do really well up here. Well pleased with this one.
-
You're right about those two games against celtic mate and I was thinking that myself. But I think he's done just enough to win a contract and hopefully with much better players beside him he will be able to step up in the big games too. No thanks to the rest of the loan signings though!
-
Hopefully it's a return ticket he got for the flight when he came up. We've had some right shockers at the back since we came up and he's right up there with them. Can't wait to see the back of him.
-
Yup, we struggle big time. In fairness we try to pass the ball well but if you fill the team with honest journeymen type players, like we have since the third division, then you reap what you sow: players who struggle with the very basics of football.
-
Agree with most of the comments. He is a player who would have been a good signing 4 or 5 years ago, but looks like he's simply not got the legs now to cope with the high tempo of these type of games. Unfortunately he's not the only one in the team like that though.
