We were here before you and we welcomed you from far,
there's nothing you can do to stem the tide.
So celtic when you get to feeling bigger than you are,
Remember who we are and remember how we died.

We come from every country and from every walk of life,
We sing in praise of Rangers in times of doubt and strife.
We maintain our love of duty, of truth and honour blest.
And thats the reason, celtic, why you're always second best.

We died in Flanders poppies red, who will forget that scene,
We were murdered foul in South Armagh fighting for our Queen.
We also died in peaceful times as we have oft times seen
As we follow followed Rangers on the steps of stair 13.

Men like big Jock Wallace, Willie Thornton, Waddell too,
Men like Shearer and slim Jim, proud to wear the blue.
They're always our reminder, as we parry every blow,
that we're living in a world of truth that you will never know.

We've had our share of tears and joy, we've had our share of pain,
As we wept our tears for those gone on who we'll never see again.
but as our ranks are thinned by death, this we will maintain,
they'll be honoured on the football field, for we'll still play the game.

Are you listening, Glasgow celtic, as you chant your songs of shame,
How you're the only innocents, the others are to blame.
how singing IRA songs is just a song in jest
of childrens lives and soldiers wives, thats why you're second best.

So think on these things, celtic, on every word and letter.
Do your lying tongues and poison minds make you feel much better.
We're the Glasgow Rangers, still meeting every test.
You're the Glasgow celtic, and you're still second best.

    AMEN

Just catching up with this thread. That sir,is brilliant

Jimmy scoring v Moscow Dynamo 1945

He only featured twice in his first season at Ibrox and only played once the following season, and scored in a 3-1 win against Dundee. In season 1930-31, he scored a remarkable 21 goals in 21 games, including 5 in an 8-0 defeat of Clyde, as Rangers won the League championship for the fifth season running.

After Rangers missed out on their sixth successive League championship in season 1931-32, during which Smith had scored 5 goals in 8 games, the championship returned to Ibrox the following season and Smith finished top scorer with 34 goals, including 4 hat-tricks.

In season 1933-34, Smith and striking partner Bob McPhail, notched up 72 goals between them in 47 games as Rangers continued their dominance of Scottish football. Smith also collected his first Scottish Cup medal, scoring in a 5-0 defeat of St Mirren in the final at Hampden.

Success for Smith and Rangers continued. The League title was again won in 1934–35 with Smith scoring 43 goals in 38 matches, including 6 in a 7-1 defeat of Dunfermline Athletic. He also collected his second Scottish Cup medal, scoring twice in the 2-1 against Hamilton Academical in the final. Rangers went on to win two of the next four League championships before World War II and Smith was Rangers' top scorer in three of the four, including 31 goals from 38 games in the 1936–37 success.

Smith continued to play for Rangers during the unofficial matches played during the War but retired from football upon the return of official domestic football in 1946–47. After he retired he continued as a club trainer then chief scout until 1967.

    Thanks mate,wonderful piece .

Here's a Rangers player who deserves a special mention on a special thread -

Douglas 'Dougie' Herbert Gray was born in Alford in 1905. In 1925 he was signed by Bill Struth, who stated on several occasions that Dougie was his best ever signing! This is the manager who signed McPhail, Thornton, Waddell, Young, Shaw etc etc

Dougie went on to be Rangers longest ever serving player - playing competively until 1947! He made 555 'official' appearances but if you made the allowance of appearances during WWII then Dougie put on the Rangers shirt more than any other player in history, making 940 appearances in total.

He won 10 league champions medals, six scottish cup winners medals and was capped 10 times for his country. Dougie Gray is not often a name tripped off the tongue when Rangers Legends are discussed. But be in no doubt a legend he is and a worthy original member of our Hall of Fame.

A few years ago his daughter was invited to Ibrox as a special guest and was giving the star treatment including a tour of the stadium. There is no doubt her father was looking down proudly.

Great stuff. It often frustrates me that men like Dougie are often forgotten when we talk about the greats.

Am I right in saying this wasn't an actual away kit? More like a training one? Guy I know said he was on a rigg working and some Geordie was desperate to buy (what I suspect) is the top above, gave him £50 for it. Was it the same season we had gold and silver goalie jerseys? 97/98?

No it was a one off for the Champions league qualifier against Gothenburg. It was never available commercially, making it one of the rarest Rangers shirts out there. If you've got one its worth a few quid.

Hard to disagree.they were basically the Italian national team that had played in Argentina the previous summer. The result against PSV in the next round cant rank far behind it either

That team from the picture above -

McCloy, McKinnon, Dawson, McPherson, McClelland, Prytz, Russell, Redford, Cooper, McCoist, Clark

that would challenge for the title alright

I think younger fans don't realise the quality that was in Scottish football at that time.
