Are we on course for £12m profit this year?

£13m basic profit from last year

+ £2m more from champions league than last year

+ £2m europa cash not received last year

+ £1m more from player sales this year

- £6m more on transfers than last season

= £12m profit before tax

Last year we made £13.1m operating profit. Most of this was wiped out by paying off previous transfer fees but only £1.2m remained outstanding after that however. Our improved results and slightly better ticket sales in Champions League have reportedly brought in about two million pounds more than last season whilst even if we are defeated at next round of Europa we should make at least another £2m.

Last season we sold Ferguson, Mendes and Adam and only brought in about £3m but Thomson and Wilson were sold for £4m this year (not including add-ons). Conversely we also spent roughly £6m on transfer fees this year when last year we spent none.

For the calculation at the top to be correct it would mean that all our other sources of income and expendure stayed in the same ratios as last year. This is obviously a huge assumption but it is unlikely that there would be major changes in income with sponsorship and ticket sales etc remaining pretty similar. Expenditure shouldn't change much either with smaller interest payments on debts and the wage bill shouldn't be any higher with more players leaving than signing.

Even if a takeover does not happen I am confident there will be money available at least for a loan signing or two in January!

Its a certainty we will make another profit this year, how much, we dont know yet. Finances are looking very good, negative side is though, low wage bill means small squad and less quality, making it harder to be successful, lower operating costs too almost certainly means poorer service from club to fans too all around the club.
