By Bert Mitchell RANGERS are about to get another Super Mo' after capturing rising American midfielder Maurice Edu.

That was the pledge today from the man who has been so influential in sending him to Ibrox in a £2.7million deal - former Old Firm hitman Mo Johnston.

The 22 year-old Edu is currently with new club-mate DaMarcus Beasley in Guatemala, preparing for the USA's World Cup qualifier tomorrow night.

But Johnston - Edu's boss at Toronto FC - believes he will be a smash hit as soon as his work permit comes through and he can launch his Light Blues career.

Johnston said from Canada today: "I am convinced that Mo will be a huge success at Rangers. He is a very, very good player.

"He is easily the best young player in the States right now, and I have no doubts that he will do really well at Rangers.

"There was a lot of interest in him throughout Europe. He was wanted by Monaco, Serie A and La Liga sides - and teams in the Premiership "But Rangers had been monitoring him for months and made their move at the right time.

"If I had to sum up Mo's ability in a few words it would be that he's very athletic and very versatile. He stands just over six foot and, believe me, he is as solid as they come.

"But for a guy so well built and so tall he has a lot of poise to go with his bite."

Meanwhile, as revealed in yesterday's SportTimes, Andy Webster has completed a six- month loan move to Coca-Cola Championship outfit Bristol City.

The 26-year-old Scotland defender has been allowed to leave Ibrox in search of first-team football after suffering a series of injuries since his arrival on loan from Wigan in January 2007.

Webster signed a three-year deal with Rangers earlier this summer after the Ibrox side paid £400,000 to land him.

And manager Walter Smith believes the short-term move to England will help him get his career back on track.

Motherwell had also shown an interest in the player, but could not match the wages required to keep him in Scotland.

Smith confirmed: "We have allowed Andy to go on loan to Bristol City until the January transfer window.

"We feel it will be beneficial for him to get first-team football down at Bristol and we hope he can return to the level we all know he is capable of.

"Andy has had a torrid time since he arrived at Rangers and it will be good for him to get games every week in another environment."

With Webster farmed out, Smith will move to bring in another centre-back.

And Rangers are also set to complete the signing of Steve Davis on Thursday after the midfielder takes part in Northern Ireland's friendly game with Scotland tomorrow night.

Davis still has a couple of financial issues to settle with Fulham.

But he has everything agreed with Rangers and should complete formalities in time to be in the squad for Saturday's trip to Aberdeen, with the Ibrox club hopeful Edu's paperwork will be stamped in time for him to also travel to the Granite City.
