  1. To get back to the point - it's imposssible to determine the pots for the draw before this game has been played. The only option, if the draw was to go ahead on Thursday would be to have two seperate draws. Surely even UEFA aren't that daft?

  2. With Seville's game being postponed because of the recent tragedy can the draw go ahead without knowing whether it's Seville or AEK, as both would be in different pots, and whoever qualifies will determine other teams pots and placings?

Would seem to make it unlikely that the draw could take place on Thursday.

  3. first they sang the billy boys and i did not speak out.

then they sang about no pope of rome and i did not speak out.

then they sang about gallows and seeing places I'd never heard of before they died and I did nothing.

...then one day I realised that these people were parasites using the club to further purile political and religious aims with no care for the club that I loved, and it was too late because their hatred and their desire to put politics over the support of Rangers had driven the club to the brink ...and yet they continued to demand to sing their songs despite the damage, because to them the songs we're all that mattered. And when we, as true bears stood up, they came after us.

  4. Great signing. Goal threat, physical presence, great work ethic, challenges Adam and keeps him on his toes, a winner and a bear.

Starting to get really excited about the season to come - can't wait for the fist 50/50 ball betweeen McCulloch and Knackerd Moto.

  5. I hope i am not deflecting this away from 'Them' but i also remember Hearts throwing the fruit as well...i think Walters made his league debut there but i am not 100% sure of that. Anyway it looks likely this is going to pass with silence from Ibrox Stadium. I am sick of being branded a racist and a bigot for no reason other than the team i support!!

The Hearts incident was actually the worst one.

Mark took a corner at the Hearts End, corner furthest from the main stand and about twenty banana's we're thrown in a pre-arranged reaction. I had comps that day and was in the directors box (the reaction from them was total embarrassment), there was a strong and direct apology issued, unlike Celtic, who ignored the incident.

Know a lad who still kicks about with Mark today, and he says that he loved every minute of his time at Ibrox and can't speak highly enough about the support he got from the bears.

  6. Would like to see a few more in for going to Germany on Thursday, cant see it tho.

Walter's first season. Pre-season tour to Germay in 86. Mid tour, a certain Terrry Butcher was signed. Would love something like that to happen again.

May have been when he put pen to paper but the transfer was agreed in Mexico. Souness was dropped from the Uraguay game for missing training. He was at the England camp making agreements with Butcher and Woods.

Scource: Terry Butcher and Chris Woods. I flew back on the same flight from Mexico with the England team wearing a Rangers Top and they came over and asked if they would be accepted at Ibrox being English. I still have the autograph from Chris Woods saying The first autograph I've signed for a Rangers Supporter but certainly not the last.

If only there had been an RM forum then you could have had an exclusive :D

Woods was on the tour, as was Colin West  and Avi Cohen. Butcher's (public) announcement happened during the tour as we had to pester Souness for confirmation. Seem to remember no one believing him :)

    Happy days

  7. It's interesting that in 1986, Walter (alongside Souness) took the team on a pre season tour to Germany to play a bunch of amateur teams and a single game against a pro team (FC Solingen, Battenburg and Wurzburg, and a friendly against FC Koln). Would be pretty pleased if it had the same result in the season that followed :beer2: .

  8. I have a great idea.

Why not trust Walter's judgement on McCulloch ...........and perhaps sign Naismith and Flaubert.

McCulloch is portrayed as a bad signing on this site - which puts most at odds with McCulloch's previous two club managers and his previous international Manager and Assistant Manager :wtf:

Now whose judgement to trust :)

  9. I'm gonna push the boat out here and say Lee McCulloch will be a better signing for us than Scott Brown will be for the scum.

    There.

First OF game, McCulloch v Brown - watch the fireworks and watch the older more experienced guy with Premiership smarts dominate. Lee brings a physical presence that we have been lacking - he's an enforcer as well as being a very direct player. O'Dea or Caldwell will be murdered by him.

  10. Quotes from 2006

Boss Paul Jewell added: "Lee is one of my most consistent performers and he sums up what this club is all about." Jewell added: "He has talent in abundance, a terrific attitude and commitment and is the model pro. "He can play in midfield or as a striker and is a player who is extremely valued here."

McCulloch made 211 appearances, scoring 41 goals in the process.

Would be delighted to get him.

  11. If he wasn't a ned

    If he wasn't a waster

If he wasn't so far up his own arse

If he wasn't going to end up the annoying jakey at the end of the bar who coulda been a contender

    then ....

    actually, still nah

Remember a few years back getting a call from a mate backstage after a Proclaimers gig, on a friday night, when hibs had a sunday game. Saying, "it's midnight and I'm standing three feet from an SPL player whose unconcious, propped up against a wall, with a wee bit sick on his shirt, care to guesss who" At that point you knew he wasn't going to amount to anything.

  12. It also seems unlikely that Bain would be so candid at a Supporters rally.

"Evening gents, lovely to see you. By the way we've no money and we'll be lucky to get a few bosman's and that guy Beasley. Mine's a bud light."

Spent a few nights out with Wattie and Coisty when they we're in charge of Scotland and as chatty as they are, and as friendly as they are, they let absolutely nothing slip (and Wattie gets that evil look if anyone so much as asks). Would assume Bain would be similar, especially as he would know whatever he said would go straight to a large number of message boards.

  13. I have faith in Walter, but hate the thought of McCulloch or Quashie coming in.

I do take your point but think you have to look at what WS did with players in the Scotland set up.

Don't see the problem with McCulloch because he brings a physical presence and directness to the game. Quashie played well beside Fergie in the national team last year but injury has maybe made people forget that he's a decent player, he's also only 28 so it's not like he's past his sell by (though I admit I thought he was older).

I reckon WS is buying a team to win the SPL, and he's using his budget wisely, but a lot of folk on here want more glamourous names and are probably dissapointed that we aren't getting big name foreign players or splashing stupid amounts of money on players. It reminds me when Weir's signing was announced - I thought it was a great move and couldn't believe the negativity of some people to a guy who has been one of the key reasons for the reassurgance of the national team under WS and now Eck. Strange that the negativity around that signing is somewhat muted now.

I'd rather have a player that brings something to the team and the way we play that WS gets on a Bosman, than 4.5 million and 25K a week on a player that might blow up in your face. Who knows maybe we'll can have a compariison re Scott Brown and Nigel Quashie next season and I know where my money will be!

    Keep the faith.

  14. Most clubs arte not in the MUST WIN THE LEAGUE NEXT YEAR category, so most cvlubs are irrelevant when compared to us

'MUST WIN THE LEAGUE NEXT YEAR'

... and if we don't, will the year after be a MUST WIN THE LEAGUE YEAR and then the year after. The cliche's are lovely and are used by fans at every club in a similar position - however irrelevent they are to you or me.

The point remains that we are a day or two into the transfer window, we have sold or released very few players and have yet to purchase significantly. This is in common with many, if not the majority of teams embarking on seasons that they feel they must win the championship. To be so negative at this stage seems unrealistic and doesn't place a lot of faith in the management of the club - which is surprising given the mire they had to pull us out off made by their predessessors.

I have no memory of how early PLG had captured the talents of Sionko, Svensson, Ponroy, Stanger, Papac, Sebo and Litezi but if it was early, then go forbid we do the same again.

Maybe those of us who have trust in WS are a lot more calm than others.

Cool your boots and the gafffer will see us alright.

  15. If they were organised then players would be tied up for the start of pre-season training. One assumes that targets had been identified some time ago. Negotiations should have been well and truly tied up by now, unless they are adopting the MON philosophy of why sign them now and pay a month's wages when I can sign them at the last possible minute and save some dosh.

Don't see us behind that many clubs in terms of signings. We've brought in Gow, Darchville and Broadfoot and of course the windows only been open a couple of days. Looks like your criteria would put most UK clubs in the not organiised category.

Would be good if the pesssimism could be kept on hold till at least the beginning of July

  16. caught a glimpse of it, and it came on "we have our own problems with sectarianism" and shows rangers fans singing "fuck the pope and the IRA" at the girobowl

aye, like were the only ones? when is this going to stop? im getting sick fed up with it. i expect it from the timmy bbc, but not stv too.

    (willy)

    /rant

It'll stop when they haven't got any recent footage of folk singing about the IRA, the Pope and making salutes - until then it's like taking sweeties of a baby for the media and for anyone else that wants to detract from their own problems. There's a simple solution, but a lot of people prefer to use Rangers to voice a political opinion rather than being supporters of the club.

They're hardlly going to show 50,000 thousand singing Every Other Saturday are they

  17. Too many internationals or too many Scots????

The former doesn't seem to be a problem as we want international quality players and it doesn't seem to hamper AC Milan or Liverpool.

Scotttish internationlas surely means less travelling, less time away from team mates, less negative aspects for the club.

In an ideal world, surely we would want 11 bears in the Scotland first team!

  18. Think he played Charlie Adam and McGregor because the two players he signed for those positions were desperately inept. Think the credit for their performances should actually go to them, rather than the man who felt forced into playing them because he couldn't spot talent in a room full of talent with a big sign saying talent this way.

    Lets move on.
