  1. Several other players have left Ibrox, many of whom you may or may not have heard of, but certainly still worth mentioning. Calum Reidford, Chris Smith, Jeroen van den Broeck, Luis Borja Lazaro and Ally Park have all been released and are currently looking for new clubs. Nicholas Gallacher, Lacine Cherif and Michael Donald were also released but have already found employment. Gallacher has went to Motherwell, Cherif has joined Kilmarnock, and Donald has signed up for a scholarship in the United States. Good luck to all who have left the club. Looks like Van Den Broeck has left the club....
  2. I haven't seen any Reserve games but I can't work out why he was never given a proper chance? Or am I missing something?
  3. The guy was out injured for about 3 years! Him and Webster would make a good partnership, keeping each other company on the treatment table!
  4. Cannae see it. I'd imagine Spurs would be looking for someone who can last 90mins for a start.
  5. Gio was a fantastic player. Him and Ferguson were great in the centre of midfield together with Fergie sitting in front of the back four dictating the play and Gio pushing forward. He also had a good dig on him! I actually thought his best position was centre mid, but Wenger/Rijkaard played him at left back and he won a Champions League winners medal, so shows how much I know!
  6. Erm, like the UEFA Cup Final? Sorry mate, your post makes no sense at all. In the current financial climate it makes more sense to buy Scottish players as they are generally better value than elsewhere in Europe (unless you count Bosmans, which is a bit of a lottery e.g. Emerson). I would rather sign a player that knew our history and what it meant to play for the jersey than some money grabbing foreign bassa (Boli, Salenko?) We used to sign players from down south which was a good policy because they were affordable and the English teams were banned from European competition. Now we can't compete financially with the Premiership (Derby had a 5 million pound higher wage bill than us!), unless we're signing players from there on Bosman's, and even then we may have to break our wage structure to do so! A team of Scottish players with the odd continental player makes sense to me tbh, financially and competitively.
  7. Definitely. Gutted to have lost the game, but there are a few postive things to take out of the European adventure. Firstly, the experience of having got to the final of a European competition is terrific for a team (Weir and Dailly aside) who are still relatively young. The experience that McGregor, Broadfoot, Cuellar, Whittaker, Adam, Thomson, Davis and to a lesser extent Burke and Naismith will have gained from both playing in the Champions League and the latter stages of the UEFA Cup will be a big plus for future years. For many of these guys it is their first season playing in Europe so the experience should hopefully stand them in good stead. Secondly, we must have accumulated a few quid from qualifying for the final, merchandise, etc. Adding that to the money received from Alan Hutton, Walter should hopefully have a decent budget to recruit a few more quality players this summer. I think we should continue with our policy of buying homegrown Scottish players who are good enough, with a few European players brought in. I do believe we need some creativity in the team and hope some money can be spent on a playmaker who can play just beyond the forward line. To my mind I would, and I'm sure people will disagree, put in a bid of 4.5 - 5million for James McFadden to strengthen our left side. Birmingham will have to look at cutting their wage bill and I'm sure he won't fancy life in the English Championship. Lastly, in the current financial climate, it is good to see Murray Park beginning to come good. The U19's have now won the league and cup double in the last two seasons and our Reserves have coped admirably in their league despite being a relatively young team. I know Wattie tended to avoid throwing the youngsters in, in his last spell in charge, but that was when Rangers were splashing the cash on overpriced British and European talent. I think in the next few years we'll hopefully see players such as Fleck, Furman, Shinnie and Lennon come through the ranks and hopefully emulate players such as Fergie and Hutton. So, in summary, despite last night's scoreline, I think the future's bright..... :unionflag:
  8. I remember reading a story about Derek Ferguson playing in his first OF derby. Tommy was playing for the opposition at the time but complimented him if he made a good pass and generally helped him cope with the atmosphere of the fixture. I think that speaks volumes about the guy. Also as a Scotland fan I would like to commend him on helping rebuild our national team along with Walter and Ally after the shambles that was Vogts. One of the good guys. RIP.
  9. Espically Gowser After All Walter Signed Um??? I could be wrong here, but I thought Gow signed on a pre-contract when PLG was still in charge?
  10. Scott Nisbet - great backspin on that goal vs Club Bruges Would have to give Alan McLaren a methion. Could have been an Ibrox great if it wasn't for injury. I recall he marked an at his prime Baggio out of the game in one of his first appearances for Scotland at Ibrox.
  11. John McKay (STV news) is also a big bluenose, Alan McGee (Creation records old boss), Jim White (Sky Sports)
