  1. Thank's for taking the time to reply. There was already a competition in England at the time called the Zenith Data Systems Cup - see here My link, so I'd imagine the cup that was contested officially wasn't called that. Although according to the RSSSF (a Football statistic site) it is also called the Zenith Data Systems Cup - see here My link. According to the BFI Film & TV Database (the game was shown on TV), it was called British Champions Cup. My link Although the game is referred to by the name's above I dont think any of them is the official title. I think the sponsor's name was on it though meaning it was called 'Zenith Data Systems.......'. I heard the name of it before but I forget what twas
  2. There is some debate whether this will be our new home shirt. Personally I'd love if twas. Man City have their sponsor in small writing on their away shirt so it has happened before
  3. Hi, Does anyone on this forum have the aforementioned Rangers book? If so could you tell me what the name of the cup tourselves and Arsenal contested in '89. I got some usefull info from you guys before which I very much appreciate. However I didnt get the exact name of the cup and I believe it says the name of it on that book. Any help appreciated.
  4. Walter Smith has been some manager - look at what he's won! Among the best imo. When he decides to step down, it will be a sad day for football.
  5. Thats completly wrong, the reason why im saying that because SF refer to Northern Ireland as the North as like saying "the North of Ireland" like not even taking it in in that we exsist. And get your friends to me i need a word with them thats BS. Look I came on this forum to talk about FOOTBALL, not politics. This thread is about a great young Northern Irish player, Steven Davis and it's going off topic now. Whats politcal about calling a country by its name, im not going to go on about it but your an Arsenal fan. You brought up SF refering to Northern Ireland as the North of Ireland didnt you? I'm not gonna reply again about this issue - the thread was started to talk about Steven Davis and I dont wanna be responsible for it going off topic.

  7. You have obviously picked me up wrong. When I refer to Northern Ireland as the 'North', it is just an expression. No more. When my friend's in Belfast (who are Unionist's) are heading to the Republic they always refer to it as the 'South' even though strictly speaking they could be heading to Malin Head for example, which is heading North.
  8. I can tell you he's a very good player. Very good upper body strength. His goal scoring record at QPR is very good.
  9. It may have been friendlies but any 'big' country (France, Spain and Brazil) they have played under Capello, they have been beaten
  10. Thats even less believable than us winning the Champions League I was just saying that as an example. Like unfortunately - we dont win the League every year what with Man Utd and Chelski investing tens of millions to win it but when we do win it, it feels all the better. Our squad didnt cost anything like Man Utd or Chelski yet where right in there in the League and Champions League. Wenger, his staff and the players deserve huge credit for that. And then there's the fact that Spu*s regularly outspend us and still cant finish above us!
  11. Think about this scenario. Rangers go a while without winning the SPL. The value of the winning the trophy would soon sink in then. I certainly wouldnt swap any of our title wins for a Champions League.
  12. Well, I think over the years, Maik Taylor has been very solid in goal - I wouldnt underestimate how valuble he has been. Aaron Hughes, Chris Baird and McCartney are Premier League quality. Healy is better for the North than his Club. Agreed regarding Davis though. Old head on young shoulders. Quality player.
  13. Why not? I agree Rangers would be a few short of a serious challenge in the UCL but with some astute signings, you never know.
  14. There could be various reason's. I would think a combination of marketing and their success in the European Cup. An example, look how arrongant at times Real Madrid can come across as becuse they have won 9 EC/UCL's. I 'll tell ya, great achievement as it is, they were fortunate that they had a European Cup to win in their glory years. When we dominated English football in the 30's, there was no European Cup for us to win. Evey time we toured Europe at the time we beat the oppo. I'd say Rangers fans could quite rightly make the same arguament.
  15. To be fair though, the likes of David Healy, Aaron Hughes, Chris Baird and Maik Taylor have been great for Northern Ireland over the years. But without a doubt Davis is quality.
  16. If you guys had to choose either the SPL or UEFA Champions League, what would you choose to win and why. From my pont of view as a Gooner, I don't know what I would pick. On one hand, the Premier League is the highest rated League in Europe it a League is an true 'acid test' and you have to be consistant to win the League. It's the 'bread and butter'. It's a load of rubbish to say you have to win it (the Champions League) to be a 'Great Club'. Arsenal, Rangers and Valencia et all are proof that isn't true. On the other hand, it is like an 'icing on the cake', although luck, injuries etc plays a huge part. I'm torn over this one but what I will say is that I would NEVER swap our unbeaten season for glory in the Champions League Final aginst Barca in '06 if I had the choice. So what would you rather?
  17. Don't get me wrong, Rooney is a fantastic player. But I certainly wouldn't call him the best player based on one, abeilt an unbelievable one at that, season. Players like King Henry, Messi, Ronaldinho have been outstanding season after season. I feel a lot of Man U players in general get too much praise. Oddly enough though, I think Darren Fletcher and Ji Sung Park are underrated.
  18. Great song. Was played at Highbury when we won the Premier League.
  19. It may be a bit early to say he's the best player from Northern Ireland to play for Gers but he certainly has the potential to be. He has a very mature football brain for a young player.
  20. Thanks everyone for the help with the info I wanted. What isn't clear though is what the actual official name of the cup was. It wasn't called the 'British Championship' as far as I know. It was basically a British Championship game but that wasnt the official title. I think the sponsor's name was on the official title, Zenith Data Systems. If anyone has a Rangers history handbook, couls they find out for me? I have seen a comment were one of our directors in the 1930's said that a Rangers side that beat us could have beaten...ENGLAND - show's you the strength of the Scottish League back then.
  21. I'm telling yas. There is plenty of Protestant, Ulster-Scots etc history here and it is being embraced and rightly so. Its only fair that there are 12th parades in parts of the Republic as well.
  22. Do you hate Spurs? Of course! A shower of ***** You've just answered your own statement. We aint running away with the PL though, ans we still have to play them away and there is a possibilty of winning the League (if all goes well) at the Lane for a 3rd time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. I haven't witnessed any tbh. That is not to say there isn't any. In rural area's there may be hassel but I can guarantee there isn't as many Cltic fans as made out to be. In fact the town I live in would have more Arsenal fans than Celtic one's. And their would be a few Rangers fans as well. Can i ask where your from.? The North West. Why? I'm sure in many parts of Dublin, eastearn parts of Leinster and the border counties their will be numourous Gers Fans. Well im from the north west of Northern Ireland what planet you on O sorry what part or town, village, so on We are now moving off subject if your asking were I'm from etc. The thread was started by myself in good faith asking yourselves there was animosity towards Ireland. The Arsenal thread was fine, but this one stinks. Forgetting about that country's claim to Ulster and their collusion with the IRA........... Ask the Republican cunts who were launching missiles from the flats when we played Bohemians. Ask your Garda who were intent on injuring as many 'Orange bastards' as they could, even getting on buses to do so. Ask the people of Dundalk who took out every fucking window on every bus. Look. I started this thread in good faith. I haven't insulted anyone or caused offence. I just wamted to know from Rangers fans themselves why the annimosity. Thats all.
