  1. The only problem I have is that we didnt get the 3 mill we should have got for him.
  2. I am giving my age away now but as a young boy a pal who was a Dundee Utd supporter persuaded me to go to Kirkaldy to see Utd play Raith Rovers. To this day I can still remember this "beanpole" being in complete control of the game.Within weeks he was signed by us and the rest is history. He was so great I even went to his comeback match which was a friendly against Tottenham at Ibrox. If I am correct there was a crowd of 72,000 and when the Gers took the field there was an enormous roar of welcome for Baxter.Unfortunately he was no longer Slim Jim and had a bit of a beer belly but glimpses of the old magic were still there.A true legend. Not only for us but for Scotland as well. Can anyone recall the Puskas story after we played Real Madrid and Baxter took him to "a perty in Drumchapel."
  3. When I look at the signings made by them I dont see anyone I would have liked to have seen in a Rangers jersey. Then there is that well worn Manager's cliche about "time to settle in" and "build a team."Lennon is unproven at any Managerial level and the only noise he makes is "play for the shirt." Obviously a tactical genius. Then I look at who we have lost and apart from Boyd and Wilson it doesnt overly worry me.Our main problem is a lack of depth in the squad.Fundamentally we still have the team that won the League and can do so again.Smith will find replacements but in his own time. Not on the time scale wanted by the Press or even the supporters unless he can find the right player to meet our demands.Watch for the last week of the deadline.Thats when I expect some movement.
  4. I'd love to get both of them and Baxter to fail along wi Lemon at the giro plex This report from a month ago: South Africa striker Katlego Mphela is ready to leave Mamelodi Sundowns behind to make a move to Birmingham City this summer “I'm focused now on going overseas,” Mphela told the Daily Mail. “I didn't want to think about it during the World Cup, but now it becomes my focus. “I don't think I want to play PSL again. It is time to move on. I spoke to my manager yesterday and I understand Birmingham are still interested and want me to come over. “We'll just wait for the details to be sorted out as to when I will go over, but I don't want to wait. I want to go now while I am in form and ready." Seems Big Eck also changed his mind.
  5. Baxter was South Africa's Coach for a short while and it would be fair to say he was regarded as a disaster so they fired him.Doesnt mean to say his opinion is wrong but like most European Coaches down there he found the African mentality difficult to manage. They are into show boating and the like and didnt take kindly to the more strict team discipline. They also have very strange pre-match rituals bordering on witchcraft so all in all he is quite correct when he questions their temperament.Me? I wouldnt touch either with a barge pole and to be honest if he liked them so much why isnt he talking to Lennon about them. They are still looking for a Club and best offer they have has had is Khumalo's offer of a trial with Spurs.
  6. Lee Martin.Still only 23 and now at Ipswich. Worth another look? Maybe we can kick start his career this time.Undoubted skill.
  7. Are the Kennedys gun shy? Does neil lennon enjoy swallowing his tounge on a night out Can Katie Price breastfeed Africa?
  8. Is Walter consulting him on new signings?
  9. Only IF he succeeds will that be the case. If we couldnt give Boyd ( a proven scorer here) anywhere near that sort of deal why Jelavic? We could have then sold Boyd next summer. Doesnt make sense to me Boyd rejected our contract offer. According to Bain that was K18 a week + K4 per match. A lot less than K35.
  10. Given Davie Weirs age should we not be hanging on to Webster?
  11. Anyone think he can come good for us or is he a write off.?
  12. Maybe Walter thinks training with the 1st team is good enough for these youngsters but he should have given tham all some game time.Otherwise what was the point in taking them? McCoist should also have a much bigger say since he inherits this team next year. But does he?
  13. Sorry Bud. Just got out of bed after a heavy one last night.

  15. OK I know its the rumour mill season but this morning's News of the World says Moyes has Davis lined up if Pienaar goes.IMO that would be an even bigger blow than if Bhougerra goes.
  16. why? just coz he happens to wear our jersey? respect where respect is due and earned! McCulloch isn't the best player in the world, but he has given his all for Rangers despite the fact that the only outfield position he hasn't played for us is full back without ever making a fuss about it. Plenty of other players would have said fuck this and left. Off the park he has conducted himself with complete dignity and respect. Has he ever been in the papers because he's been in a dust up at the pub? Had an affair behind his wifes back? Parked in a disabled space? Spent big money on some extravagant item like most footballlers do? And as one of the senior members of the squad he has also regularly faced the media in interviews and he always comes across in a clear and concise way. He's never a raving slobbering mess in the same way that others are. His ability isn't the issue here, the way he conducts himself as a Rangers player is and McCulloch has been a fantastic ambassador for the club and for that he has earned respect. Happily seeing and not disagreeing with a fellow fan who calls a Rangers player a tosser is ned like, disrespectful and just pretty unbelievable tbh.
  17. I've only seen them both play at the WC and they both seem pretty good. Both scored against France, Mphela has a very good goalscoring record for both club and country. Khumalo is a solid defender and both have been attracting interest from the EPL Here's the goals from the France game....big guy comes steaming in like a train for the first one. Mphela did well to bundle the ball home from behind the big Frenchie! Brilliant header Also, they both have experience on the big stage playing against good teams which could help us in the CL What big stage? Khumalo has never played club football outside of SA and Mphela didnt make it at Strasbourg.Do you know that many English teams have representation or affiliation in SA football? Ajax Amsterdam and Feyenoord also run development teams in South Africa. How come none of them spotted these "talented" players? Harry Redknapp is only willing to offer Khumalo a trial.Lets not be fooled by one performance against a France team who werent interested. Who would you have us buy then? The days of us buying 'finished articles' are gone and anyone we bring in will be a bit of a risk, these guys may be diamonds in the rough and i'm ok with us giving them a go. Its about recognising what you are buying and these 2 have no pedigree whatsoever.Remember South Africa wouldnt have been in the World Cup (ranked 85 by FIFA)if they were not hosts.Their players would do anything to get a contract out of that shithole so they promise to deceive. What about Murray Park? Is their nothing there and if not there needs to be a Stewards enquiry. Better the youngsters than a couple of foreign diddys for 2.5 million who have shown nothing so far that they can cut it despite being 23 and 25.If we keep Bougy for another year we dont need a centre back right now and a year is a long time in football.

  19. Attached is the latest from the South African Media. It merely confirms my suspicion that these Players are chasing money and that alone.Rather give me someone who will play for the jersey. http://www.timeslive.co.za/sport/soccer/article572891.ece/Scots-keen-on-Bafana-pair
  20. Agree with Bear about the quality of the South African League (which I have also seen) but reports say they will still cost us 2.5 million.I think the point is that. South African players are so desperate to make money they will sign for any European club if the money is right so they dont bring any loyalty with them. Then there is the African Cup of Nations and other Internationals which they will be off to every time we may need them. Bear may also agree with me that in South Africa as soon as any player gets any kind of fame or money they go off the ropes so all in all I just see it as a bad deal. I would still rather go with youngsters from Murray Park and if nothing is coming through then that facility needs to be looked at under a microscope. It is hard enough for the fans right now with the club struggling financially but RFC shouldnt bullshit us by signing poor quality then talking them up.
  21. I am more than a little worried about the quality of these 2 transfer targets and feel we are being strung along by RFC.Both have been described as "stars" and "heroes" yet the facts dont match up to the hype. The League they play in is of a very poor standard (even by African standards)and the South African national team are ranked around 85 by FIFA.Both are in their mid 20's yet Khumalo hasnt played club football outside of South Africa and Mphela didnt make it at Strasbourg.Seems McCoist has based his opinion on one game against France who had already committed suicide prior to the match (look at what Blanc has done since). Is Murray Park so bad that we have to shell out good money for a couple of opportunists who would sign for anyone in Europe provided the money is right? I would rather stick with the youngsters and give them a chance.
