  1. SPL clubs ready to bridge Rangers gap but fans must show their support Scotland's top flight are entering uncharted territory and supporters are the key to whether Rangers' absence triggers financial Armageddon This is the day either earmarked as the start of financial Armageddon in the Scottish Premier League, or a brave new dawn. Scotland's top flight is entering uncharted territory. A campaign will kick off without Rangers in the highest league, something historically regarded as an impossibility. Fears of meltdown for clubs carrying heavy debt burdens are yet to turn into anything more concrete. The Dundee United chairman, Steven Thompson, has claimed that the main television deal set to be ratified by clubs on Friday is little different commercially to the one which expired at the end of last season. Those quick to paint an utterly bleak scenario – including people in high Scottish football office – have no evidence to back up their outlook just yet. SPL chairmen did something which, sadly, is regarded as novel these days. They listened to their own supporters. That led to Rangers being denied immediate re-entry to the Premier League after the troubled Ibrox club reformed as a new company. Now, there is an obvious obligation on the fans who campaigned so hard for Rangers to be kept out to turn out to support their own clubs. Celtic, Hibernian and Hearts are among those who have urged their followers to buy season tickets. By the end of the season, it would prove depressing if those chairmen are forced to complain of "supporters" who didn't afford their club reciprocal backing. Integral to any level of sport is competition. The SPL will retain that, but surely only among the 11 teams competing below Celtic. Neil Lennon's team is priced as short as 1-50 to reclaim the championship; there will be few takers at odds starting at 40-1 for any of the rest. Still, there is plenty of scope for intrigue. The Dundee derby will make a welcome return to the top division for the season of 2012-13 and two Highland teams, Ross County and Inverness Caledonian Thistle, will face each other in the SPL for the first time. It may be seen as an empty contest, but the reality is that Hearts, Dundee United and Motherwell should be energised by the opportunity to finish second, with enhanced European opportunities. All too often in recent times, the Old Firm have been virtually guaranteed to occupy the Premier League's top two places before a ball was kicked. There is no question that antipathy towards Rangers has energised supporters' groups elsewhere. Yet St Johnstone, Motherwell and Dundee United attracted crowds of 6,023, 9,035 and 9,977 for their first – non-televised – qualifying fixtures in Europe. Such attendances are decent enough, little more, with expectation lowered by the chronic over-pricing and mundane set-ups which havedriven people away from domestic fixtures. Until SPL clubs collectively work to cut prices and remove an utter dependency on television contracts, they remain part of a flawed product. More immediately, St Johnstone have been eliminated from European competition, Motherwell will almost certainly drop out of the Champions League's qualifying phase next week and Dundee United face a highly onerous task to make it beyond one tie after a 2-2 home draw with Dynamo Moscow. It will therefore, most probably, be the responsibility of Celtic in the Champions League to halt the worrying reduction of Scotland's European co-efficient. Such facts hardly tally with the contrived theory that the SPL is flourishing; in relation to the rest of the continent, Scottish football's stock is far from high. That is neither a fresh phenomenon nor a negative sentiment – merely reality. What the game north of the border retains are high interest levels, even more so now given Rangers' demise. The Ibrox outfit seem perfectly content to plot their way back to the upper echelons from Division Three. For those who remain in the SPL, the bid to minimalise or eradicate any gap Rangers may have left now starts in earnest. A fascinating few months await.

  4. Exeter's Alan Gow would consider Rangers offer Exeter City attacker Alan Gow says he would consider rejoining Rangers at some point in the future. Rangers are set to play in the Scottish Third Division as a newco after the old company was liquidated. Gow, 29, who signed a two-year deal at Exeter in May, played twice for Rangers between 2007 and 2009 and is open to a future return to Ibrox to help them. "I'll always want to play for Rangers, so if the opportunity came about I'd always go," Gow told BBC Sport. "I'm a Rangers fan through and through. I could have probably moved to bigger English clubs instead of going to Rangers and maybe doubled my money, but I wanted to play for Rangers." Gow left Gers for Plymouth Argyle in 2009 and had spells at Hibernian, Motherwell, Notts County and Indian side East Bengal before joining Exeter, initially on a short-term deal, in March. And he says he is enthusiastic about Exeter's chances for the upcoming season in League Two. "The manager's made a few good signings because we did lose a few big important players from our side," added Gow. "We're optimistic and it's great having the young lads coming through. "But there's the experience as well of people who've played at a higher level to help the young boys come through and hopefully that'll stand us in good stead for the season." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19060702

  9. Can we not put our away games on the big screen at ibrox n anybody that cant get a ticket for away game pay to go to ibrox and watch it there giving our club some much needed cash because the away gate average is 4500 and apart from ibrox and hampden very few of us will see the gers play this season
  10. For Moses x http://forum.rangersmedia.co.uk/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=9087
  11. Do you think ally will play he did score in the legends game
  12. In an interview with the Paisley Daily Express the Buddies chief says the SFL’s decision has done damage to the game. Why is the SFL getting the blame??
  13. Ive got a feeling that mcgregor will be back, and really hope so cos hes a good keeper and feckin gorgeous :h34rt:

  15. The ball must be in our court cos we can say wel go to SPL or div1 with no sanctions if not wel stay in div3. Cos do they not need us in Spl/div1 more than we want to be out of div3 cos weve not got a big enough team.
  16. What was all that shite about "sporting Integrity" - no gers in SPL, We are voted into div 3 and hard as it is to say wer happy about it cos we need time to build the team back up. So now they want to change the rules again to suit themselves so "Sporting Intergrity" is only for Rangers. Maybe if they thought more about the overall consequences and how it would affect their own clubs instead of all the hatred and bitterness towards the Gers this would have been avoided!!
  17. The ref and linesmen will have to wait for N Lennons final verdict to see if goal will be allowed.
  18. Lol dont give them anymore ideas x
  19. "The demise of Scottish football is NOT in Rangers best interest." The demise of scottish football is not Rangers responsibility, the SFA and SPl teams wer so hell bent on "sporting integrity" they flung us out the PL and we should, in the case of "sporting integrity", start again in div 3. Where was Rangers help when we needed it but because all/some of the PL teams may face admin/liquidation with no Rangers in PL they expect Rangers to help them. Ffs weve had no-one fighting our corner and weve been kicked from all angles is it no wonder we the fans want to vent our anger in someway or another!!!! What goes around comes around.
  20. Dont care who it is as long as it happens coz it will be interesting to see how the SFA handle it.
  21. In the interest of "Sporting Integrity" we should be demoted to div 3 as its the right thing, but because we are a big club and because of the money we generate for other clubs, the sfa thinks yeah wel punish you but only for a year cos we really need you back in the spl or it will all go tits up.
  22. If HMRC had said at the beginning that they were going to pursue those personally responsible would we have had to go into admin? Or did they just wait to see how much we would offer them with cva.
