We really didn’t. Ajax beat Dortmund 7 - 1 over 2 group games last season. They beat Sporting Lisbon 9-3 over 2 group games last season. Ajax are not at the elite level but they are much better than Dortmund or Leipzig or Braga were last year. Yes we can ,and must ,improve but our best will still not be good enough for this level without further serious investment in the playing staff

I’m trying to be objective. I think the Tim’s have done reasonably well against a supposed top team but I don’t think Madrid are as good as the results suggest. They may have won it last year but basically rode their luck in every knockout round where they were largely outplayed by every opponent but managed to win . Yes I know winning is all that matters in the end but I think there are several teams out there that are better football sides than Madrid and that would beat the Tim’s with ease .
