People are just ignoring the fact that they've threw everything they have backing the manager after their shambolic 20/21 season. And it has worked. They've spent 50m at least on rebuilding the squad. Of course they're going to beat every other team barring 1 or 2 dodgy results. We just dont have the finances to do the same so we've had to box clever. But we don't have the squad mentality to believe that we can compete with them. We had the chance to press on after that season but we sat back with our feet up and didn't press on. Hindsight is wonderful but we've regressed so far back it's borderline negligence .

They have a net spend of about 5 or 6 million since their manager came in so this fallacy that they 10's millions that we do not have is nonsense. Since Gerrard came in we have spent more on players after sales than they have - its not selling players at the right time (until recently) that has cost us the ability to refresh the squad. Also the fact we don't seem to scout many markets relying on England , Belgium, teams we play against or ex players to get our signings mostly.

You are spot on with the mentality as Tav has said this on numerous occasions whilst Goldson also admitted as much after hibs gubbed us

No idea why we can’t have 12-15 players moved on when 8 are out of contract. Kamara. Hagi and Davies will be sought after, the problem is getting teams to take players like Barisic, Lundstram and Matondo.

12 players leaving is the minimum we need and it’s definitely doable

Go back to the Warburton era and this was a regular thing on here with people wanting rid of the whole squad at times but come the new season the majority would still be there with another half dozen added for good measure.

Yes the majority of players whose contracts are up should be allowed to leave with the exception of Arfield on a reduced contract as he is association trained. However unless we are prepared to take a loss on the likes of Hagi or Davies we are not getting back the money we paid for them.

    Team goals are good.

60 passes before creating a chance is a nonsense and where a lot of our problems lie.

Good teams keep possession before creating a chance sometimes but our problem is that it can end up with a poor delivery. Provided there is a chance after a period of passes no problem with how many.

It’s just quite sad that we still have to carry guys like Arfield. Bench should be for guys who are competing for a first team place, signings with potential-cheap hit/miss type, loan with option to buy and young players like Lowry coming through. You sort of want a mix of those 4.

There’s not a world where we should be relying on a 35yr old Arfield when we already have Lawrence, Lowry and Hagi not playing at the moment for that role.

Especially when Beale doesn’t seem to want to play him. He’s played 50 minutes in our last 10 league matches. And only going to be less when Lawrence is back and Lowry playing more

Would prefer we let him leave and took a punt on a youngster that the scouting team have identified. Given he’s going to be 3rd choice for the position it’s not costly if it doesn’t work out

Arfield is one of only 3 outfield players who are association trained. With McGregor rumoured to be away we have no club trained players with first team experience.

It means that unless we have two Scottish goalkeepers we have to pick 15 senior players from the 1st team squad for Europe

We can have as many u21s as we want so the likes of Deviene, King and Lowry for example are not counted.

Keeping Arfield on a reduced contract makes sense

  5. People keep saying we have a limited funds and there is more pressing positions to be filled which is true. But giving them new deals would probably put them in the top 4 maybe even 3 best paid players in the club. We have always had great strikers at the club and some have stayed for years whilst others barely a season but we always replace them. Morelos from 3 years ago would be hard to replace but the current version of him its a toss up if he merits a start each week. We need to move on and its the same with Kent.

As a club to improve overall we need to accept that we will sell players that are amongst the best in the squad early in their careers with us rather than hold onto them. If we are reguarly netting 20-30 Million a season from transfers we can buy better developed players each season rather than shopping about EPL bargain bins or worse championship hoping that with enough training/encouragement the player will come good again.

That can't be true about the net spend.

Gerrard came at the start of the 2018/19 season and in 5 seasons up to this one we have spent according to transfermarket 54.3M and sold 52.27M (basically nearly 50M in the last 2 seasons)

Prior to us winning 55 Gerrard was getting slated for getting to spend 30-35M but with no silverware to show for it

They have spent 107.1 M but brought in 127.4

Every year our wage bill has steadily rose as well

We have spent less than the manky mob but have invested a substantial enough amount that we should be seeing better returns.

The common denominator in our transfer business appears to be Ross Wilson.

    Wilson out.

Since Gerrard came we have a bigger net spend than them and indeed they are in profit. We have 33 first team players (probably a whole team of them are injured mind you) with them having 26. You are completely correct though when you call for Wilson to be punted but the sad thing is that the board think he's doing a tremendous job.

The base point is that you are slabbering absolute shite with your argument that he was 'dreadful'.

I gave you an excellent example where he turns over possession high enough up the pitch to affect a chance. He kept it in tight spaces and kept possession for us by playing others in.

    Very good goal too.

Not peak Morelos but he wasn't 'dreadful' ffs.

he had several good moments in the game however the problem is that he is probably playing about 50-60% of his potential due to the amount of weight he is carrying. He can easily get through 60-70 minutes but I would doubt he has more than a couple of bursting runs in him before he is blowing out his arse trying to get his wind back.

Were spending nowhere near what they have.

According to transfermarket we have since Gerrard came spent just under 2 Million (ins - outs) whereas they are in profit by 20M

We need to stop signing people with crap injury records (roofe and souttar for exmple) as well as selling players early in their contracts.

There is also more markets than just the English one , i know we have signed players from elsewhere but we keep going back there and paying over the odds especially in wages. A few games in we are hailing them as superstars despite us not winning anything with them.

Comfortably the best striker in the league when he is on it. Need to keep him.

And Souttar is the best defender when fit which is not very often. For the last 2 seasons he has not given a great return for the games played.

Personally I think he will get a good few goals between now and the end of the season because he's basically in the shop window now as a free agent.

Arfield and Tillman may be gone by the end of the season, Hagi coming back from a long layoff so we’ve no idea how he’s gna be and Lowry hasn’t yet been able to establish himself in the first team.

I think for free it’s smart business.

Edit: I realise it might not be free if we try and get him in Jan, but even then I’d imagine it would hopefully be a relatively low fee or even a loan if we’ve agreed a pre-contract.

Its smart business if we are paying someone maybe 12-15k with the agreement that if he plays and contributes its looked at again.

However we will be talking 25k plus for him when you take into consideration a signing bonus - Might even be in excess of 30k which is too much of a gamble

Davis, sadly, I'm writing off as retired.

Arfield I'm assuming will go into coaching side at some point and will be welcome until that point.

Goalie - yeah, missed that 1, we need a new number 1.

    Davis - yeah

Arfield - changed my mind and provided his next contract is on reduced terms I am happy for him to remain

I worry who Wilson will get as a new keeper

They fall into a few categories for me, as the changes have to be incremental and can't all be in January/summer:

    MUST GO:

    • Helander
    • Sands
    • Wright
    • Roofe
    • McGregor
    • McLaughlin

CAN STAY IF WE ADD QUALITY & COMPETITION FOR PLACES ALONGSIDE THEM - LIST BELOW WOULD BECOME OUR SQUAD PLAYERS:

    • Jack
    • Kamara
    • Sakala
    • Matondo (on basis there's some kind of player there and shows some evidence of it in next few months - if not, MUST GO)
    • Hagi (only because we've given him a contract, not because I like him - if we are offered anything north of £5m for him, sell sell sell)

    SHOULD STAY:

    • Lundstram
    • Morelos
    • Colak
    • Kent
    • Tav
    • Borna
    • Yilmaz (until we figure out what's going on with him but if not settled, sell and get some money back)
    • Lawrence
    • Tillman (if we can afford)
    • Devine (future player)
    • Goldson
    • Davies
    • Lowry

    NEED:

    • Pace and power in middle of park
    • Powerful centre half or 2 (we should have 4 CH's)
    • Natural right sided attacker - Candeias is still the best we've had there in last 10 years

What about the likes of Arfield and Davis.....who will be our no1 Keeper in your squad?

  14. 1 minute ago, Big Al 55 said:

That’s hardly a reason to offer a contract to Morelos who’s shown such disrespect.

What I hope is that if the DOF role is working as it should then MB should be making final decision on signings.

I don't think either Morelos or Kent should get a new contract as its basically two players saying they don't want to be here.

  15. The thread is like the ones in the Warburton era when near enough the whole team was getting chased out the door.

Right now we have Wilson seemingly pivotal to recruitment so if the likes of Morelos and all the others out of contract are not renewed what kind of replacement rocks up.

reducing the wage bill does not simply mean we can sign x numbers of players in their places as we have to factor in either signing on fees or transfer fees.

Time for the board to be honest with regards to future transfer fees - is Beale simply there to get the most out of the squad whilst not asking for any fees for decent players.
