  1. we can all see that the current side falls well below what we would all dream of going to watch every week. but i have just watched a side who apparently play the greatest brand of 'total football' in Britain be dismantled by simply a hungrier side with a dash of top quality players. arsenal have now went four full seasons without a trophy. not even a second place finish and only one cup final. since walter has come back our displays have undoubtedly almost always lacked real top quality skill, but in the end, would you swap it? would you swap 5 cup finals including one european one, coming within a bawhair of winning the title last season when it cant be denied, circumstance was our greatest foe? and now we sit here, on the verge of an old firm game knowing victory puts us top of the league with only 3 games remaining, not to mention another cup final in may. i love rangers, and i love rangers winning things. move to england? bollocks, we would never get near liverpool chelsea or man u. ever. would we win anything? we might get a sniff at the carling cup once in a while, and by while i mean every 10 years like middlesboro. lets rejoice in what we have and drive the queens eleven to the title this year and for many years to come. watp
  2. he also said he cant see himself being a rangers player forever. this may be a true enough statement and 100% understandable but i thought if he is touted as next skipper he could have kept that to himself for now for god sake
  3. Not at all , he had an excellent world cup , a stand out against brazil, and was possibly in the team of the tournament (although i may have made that up) and that was a month before we bought him I know world class is a subjective term and everyone has there own meaning for it but he was considered one of the best in the world at left back by far more than me........ He was universally recognised as one of the top 2 left backs in world football in the summer of 1998 when we bought him, the other being Roberto Carlos of Brazil. He had an outstanding tournament and went on to be a fantastic player for us for certainly the first couple of years, before injuries started seeing him missing out more large chunks of time, and was then one of the victims of our first near-bankruptcy this decade, when we had to slash wages and he was offered a PAYP or similar type deal to stay on, and he retired instead. He is also a real gentleman of a guy, still lives in Milngavie and attends most games. More Arthur Numan's and we would not be in a title race just now, it would have been won weeks ago. In the summer of 1998 Arthur Numan was not considered one of the top 2 LB's on earth. Are you forgetting Lizarazu, Aranzabal, Worns, Pineda, Heintze etc? Maybe he was in the top 10 at the time, but the claim he was second only to Carlos is just absolute hysteria and fabrication. Are you seriously telling me Rangers possessed one of the world's best players, and got him for £4.5M at the peak of his career? With all due respect, he was good, very good, and one of the best we've had over the last 20 years, but he was not as good as you two are making out. 11 years ago, that was expensive though. And, going further back, could be argued Cooper was one of the best players in the world? Gazza may not have been in his prime, but, he certainly was having a somewhat purple patch and most think he played his best football with us, so, its not too much of a stretch about Numan. Yeah it could be argued anything could, Cooper was good really good... Worldclass and it hurts me to say, no he's sadly not in that bracket Canniga, De boers, Laudrup, Gascoigne and Souness are some of the biggest named stars we had and there names are known Worldwide. were they even Worldclass it's debatable. again we are flying off the issue though! it doesnt matter if arthur numan was world class. thats just nit picking. he was an outstanding dutch international footballer the likes of which we could never imagine signing at the moment. who cares about 3.5 mill centre forwards, back then we were spending 12mill on strikers! sasa is an honest professional who has given us nothing but his all at left back and i have grown to really like and admire him as a player for that. plus he didnt use his good form in the uefa cup last year to drive more cash out of the club. all in all, no we cant do better at left back right now, and to be honest, we shouldnt really be even looking at it!
  4. we can do better??? with who??? what a joke this place turns into a times. and before anyone says, i know i have only started posting threads recently but i have always been interested in reading the views of fellow gers fans on this and recently some of the stuff has forced me to voice oppositional opinion. "we can do better" is a ridiculous statement. for starters, these "young players" who everybody always screams about? they cant win the under 19 or reserve league for f*** sake. and everyone seems to want to through them in for a guy who has been a great servant to us during these difficult times. papac might not be the playes we wished was playing at left back but i think we are all clever enough to realise the arthur numan days are long gone and wont be back for a very long time. so lets stop complaining about guys who have been nothing but solid in defence, chipped in with a few goals and a few assists! we should stop moaning about the guys who are actually doing a decent job and stop living in dream land.
  5. they beasted aiden mcgeady and darren o'deaaaa, they beasted young paul caddis, cuthbert and mcglincheyyyyy, and the 40 years we've been through, we've all known that big jock knew, and they beasted the boys, the glasgow celtic wayyyyyy you put your transfer request in, transfer request out, in, out, in, out, you fuck the club about, you do the stevie gerrard and you turn around, thats what its all about about! hey! ohhhhh gerrard is a wanker, ohhhh gerrard is a wanker... (everton fans at pre-season friendly a fir park a few years back) ohhhhhhhhh we're halfway there, ohhhhohhhh aliadiere!!! (boro fans) he must have went home, he must have went hoooooommmmmeeeeee, we cant find mcgeady, he must have went home! (only good part of that stinking 27dec old firm game) also a huge fan of the sheep shaggin bastard go home one
  6. put it this way, if the big guy helps in any way he can in winning the league back from the scum than he is a legend in my book. and that goes for mcculloch, dailly and the lot. we where nowhere near winning the title two years in a row before walter and these guys turned up and as frustrating and simply awful we can be to watch at times, i would rather be right i the mix the way we are and have been the last two seasons thatn getting pumped by 20 points and never getting to cup finals like the last mcleish year and plg. cmon the gers, 5 wins from the title! watp
  7. good news. i understand what everyone says about davis appearing to play far better in the middle of the park, but we really cant do without our best players at this stage. and patchy form or not, he is one of our best players.
  8. what? he has been here over ten years. his debut was in 1997 and he had been at club for years before that. i guess he just aint getting one cos he has been here well over ten years now
  9. i am just as disappointed with the current quality of the side and the style of football on show but for god sake every single person who comes on here like we are about to be relegated to division two needs a massive reality check. imagine being a die hard supporter of someone like middlesborough or newcastle like we are of rangers? you win nothing, dont even get close. finishing 8th is considered a 'successful season', relegation is a constant fear. fair enough we havent done so well over the last 3 years in terms of league wins, but there have been far far worse times in rangers long history. we have the luxury of not knowing what many before us had to watch, being beaten 8-2 on aggregate by st mirren in a two legged league cup tie for example. but we have just narrowly missed out on what would have been one of the most successful seasons in a football clubs history and still managed to get two trophies out of it. we have been to another final this year, could still easily win the title and have another semi final to look forward to tomorrow. i am just as frustrated watchin the dross at ibrox recently. but whether walter is there or not, we are some of the luckiest fans in the world as when it all comes down to it, we dont expect relegation or defeat, we expect victory. and almost all the time, its victory we get. keep believing. its coming home. we are the people
  10. defending crosses is absolutely appaling. gets raped for pace by mcgeady everytime he plays him, his crossing is dreadful and he never fully supports davis with overlapping runs. he gets up along side him and stops. a bunch of wonder goals dont make you a player. i have lost count of the amount of times his shocking defending at crosses, either blocking them or heading them from opposite wing, have cost us goals. remember vinegars winner at parkhead last year??? the dipstick loses a header to one of the most short people on the park in mcdonald when all he had to do was get anything on it. cant believe the hype around this guy. i would play dailly at right back the rest of the season. full of energy and supportive running and you know he is a million times better at defending anything than whittaker is.
  11. i can see where minst angst comes from. i found it depressing that barry's gers career has ended like this. he was a young boy who lived the dream. came through the ranks, played a part in 9 in a row (albeit tiny), went on to win trebles, captain club to trebles, have great nights in europe, and even captain the side in a euro final. for it to all end this way is a real shame. he hasnt been anywhere near it since coming back, that much is true. i have screamed at the guy from the terraces just as much as anyone this season. but there comes a time for a wee bit of reflection and this truly is a horrible way to end the career of a chap who has been a huge player for us for an decade. good luck to you baz, hope your cheering the boys to the title with the rest of us come may. we owe you a beer.
  12. 100% got to be bougherra. he has been awesome in every game except hearts at tynecastle and has been just as much of an attacking force as he has been defensive at times. love the big man, love his attitude. can only hope he dont do a carlos. davis and mendes dont deserve it due to dropping away horrendously in recent weeks. boydy should be second adn where the hell is the big sasa!!!?
  13. i have got to say i have been majorly impressed with the last 4 games. not the performances but the fact we had to win all 4 and with 3 of them away we have done it. i cant help but think if the 5 points at home to hearts and inverness arent dropped then we are 4 clear going into the split... these are the games that still concern me. if we can fall to bits like that in two home games, we are capable of anything. but as has been said many a time on this thread, we gotta keep believing. i hope for these results... rangers 3-1 hearts rangers 2-0 celtic hibernian 1-2 rangers rangers 1-0 aberdeen dundee utd 1-1 rangers that would bring us the title! cmon the bears
  14. if we pay money for one player in the summer i will be massively surprised. if we dont win the league we will almost certainly lose boug, pedro and thommo if he proves fitness. that with any cash for shagger and captain fannybaws will probs be banked. aguiar will be a certainty to replace pedro should that happen and as for getting any decent centre halves from somewhere... i think big shittu will get looked at again. however, if we win the league, even though i still think spending will be a minimum, we have to get a centre back with left side midfield a secondary but still major priority. how long can we keep sticking round pegs in square holes with that position???? the lack of consistency in the team is not being assisted by a lack in consistency in team selection!
  15. not a chance. the only glimmer of light for him as far as a rangers career is concerned is if we dont win the league and the rumoured fire sale takes place. then thommo will almost certainly go south for £4mil odds if he proves fitness and the furman may get a chance to compete with edu for centre mid spot. i think so much is riding on us winning this league it is f***ing terrifying
  16. I agree with the point about the young guys getting a chance. in particular the idea of playing fleck in a more central role as he is being hung out to dry in that left mid role. i just feel that we are may aswell looking to dominate the spl again before we start getting too big for our boots and signing two of the better players in the league, like dorman and aguiar, would help us in terms of who comes in when injuries occur. for instance, what if davis goes down injured??? we have nothing but centre forwards who could come in and play right side midfield this could have contributed to davis drop in form. he has noone of any ability challenging him in his position.
  17. just a thought that i am sure a number of teddy bears may have had over the course of this season... with the severe lack of goals from midfield this season has meant we are almost completely reliant on boydy winning us games when we are struggling. we are never going to be able to afford a european or english based middle man and since this guy has a decent pedigree and would come at a cheap price, i feel he could be a good addiition to our spl team at least. warren feeney is another shout as we could do a willo flood effort with him as he is still only on loan at cardiff and would run through a brick wall for us. plus he loves a goal against boruc!!
