  1. Does he have one year left on his contract at Newcastle ? Ashley will want to cash him in to the highest bidder and will he want to sell him to Rangers...

Fairly certain he has a year left. It's certainly not up this summer....think streete is out of contract though if he can't get a game now he is fit I doubt we'd sign him.

Ashley won't care about who he sells him to, as long as he gets as much as he can get. Which rules us out I think.

Really want to see Newcastle relegated just because I can't stand Ashley, however if they get relegated they may well keep and play vuckic if other players leave.

  2. It's the same sorry state of affairs.

He may well sign for them and then will slip into obscurity rather than become a Rangers great. It's not like he's as good as gio or arteta who did go on to bigger and better things, though I doubt he'll end up like wylde, ness, McCabe etc. it's more likely he'll be a little like Weiss, end up playing in Qatar or somewhere where decent players get stupid wages.

It all comes down to the player and what he wants out of his career. If we were in Europe we might have a shot in getting him but in reality even if he has loved his time here you can't offer big games week in week out.

I hope wherever he ends up he's successful as he's been a catalyst for our improved performances and seems a really good guy.

  3. Hopefully we can get the job done against Hibs tomorrow and get a lead in the final so that when mcgregor is suspended we won't feel it as much.

As for Miller being suspended from 3rd of June that's just bizarre, means he can score another few vital goals hopefully then miss the first game of next season.

  4. So I read this morning Alan Stubbs reckons they should raise the roof in order to rattle us.......so is this in spite of the fact they can't sell all their tickets and that rangers fans will no doubt be in the home enclosures too?

The guy is a just a tad naive for saying something like that off the back of the atmosphere on Wednesday.

Time to shut them up once and for all, it's pay back time for the 3 league defeats!

  5. Many will use tonight's result to justify comments made earlier, however we beat them about a month back when Gallagher scored. Also took a look at the development league top goal scorers and we had hardie on 19 without a single Celtic player in the top 7 scorers that were listed.

The one thing about these development matches is that everything should be taken with a pinch of salt (in both directions), that's why I maintain that until any youth starts regularly for the first team (say at least 5 consecutive starts) that it's very hard to pass judgement on them (again either positively or negatively).

What's certainly true is the play offs are the wrong time (unless injury crisis strikes) to introduce new youth players whether they are made of the right stuff or not.

  6. Hopefully he has his head screwed on and will continue to develop, maybe even into a great footballer.

He needs to look at ness, McCabe and wylde and realise that it's not the best career move to go to England early on.

  7. Yet more courageous journalism I see.

As much as I can't stand the job mccoist did and how much he got paid, we knew he would take his full salary for sometime now but using that picture is a disgrace to the memory of a great and late man. They should be fucking ashamed of themselves but no doubt it's worth the extra handful of papers they sell.

  8. Nice one, looks great in slo mo.......permission to look smug that it was side footed and not the back heel a la de boer and Prso. I don't care how it went in really, he took it well and the build up was the best we've seen in a long while.

  9. because when they have been fleetingly used they have been nothing better than what we have and most have looked average at best who would capitulate in the top league.

Fleetingly? Come on mate you're at it. So basically they need a Wayne Rooney still debut to be classed as any good. Murdoch has settled in well as time has passed and he has played more games, if he was used fleetingly then he'd not have progressed at all.

They are young players, they need to develop and until they do you won't know for certain if they are going to cut it, that's why it's so difficult to develop youngsters rather than just buying experienced players.

  10. by being good enough to line up against the opposition, which their not.

What do you base them not being good enough? Until they get regular game time you can't say one way or the other.

The fact McCall isn't playing a team full of youth players doesn't mean they are all crap, it just means he selects his team for each game based on the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition and what players he has available for selection.

Youth programmes at any club tend to have more failures than successes that's why we won't expect to see 11 youth players starting at any point in the future, but in order to find out who's good and who isn't you need to play them. The time most of the calls for youth came was pre-McCall, a time when the experienced players didn't try, didn't fight for one another and didn't deserve to wear the jersey. Since McCall has come in the players have some spirit back and that's why the calls for youth have subsided a little because the squad we have should have been good enough to win the league with a sprinkling of the best youth players we have currently.

  11. 3-5-2 is a must,,, pack the midfield, hit on the counter, we can't defend for 90 mins it's to risky, if we get an early goal it's tie over, must admit i'm still a bit nervous with a 2-0 lead.

Can't see the 3 at the back but only because mcgregor will be suspended. I agree though that we need to shut them down in midfield, we shouldn't play just one up top though.

  12. I'd rather Mohsni than McCulloch anyway

But what about Gasparotto or Streete?

Gasparotto is a youth player therefore he's automatically never going to be good enough in some folks eyes. Doubt McCall would take a gamble like that unless he has to.

I'd play streete, I think he looked good in the 30 or so mins we saw him play.

As for who my money is on, the answer lies in the bench last night....no mohsni, no streete, only mcculloch.

  13. it reminded me of our uefa cup run a little. We dug in and got what mattered most......the result.

The one time I felt we could steamroll them was just after the second goal. They were on the ropes and McCall had a decision to make. Keep going and try to get a third at the risk of perhaps losing a goal and not getting a third or take the 2-0, give tired legs a rest and tighten up.

It was never going to be a pretty display from us, we got stuck in and did what was required. That's what cup games and these play offs are about, it's about being tactical and strategic rather than going gung ho. Expect to see a similar approach on Saturday. We'll try to get a goal but not desperately seeking it and if we get it McCall will shut up shop again.

As for your point on Boyd and Clark I can see where you are coming from however I think this was made to give Clark a rest and use Boyd for defending set pieces. Clarks effort is never doubted whereas boyds is therefore he needed Clark to try and get ahead in the game. For me Boyd will work best if we have true width via the likes of Ferguson, Walsh, McKay etc. but last night again was the perfect balance of attacking and defending by Wallace and foster.

It was professional, determined and clinical.

  14. Got to love these posts. Once again the calls for youth taken completely out of context.

I can't speak for everyone, but I personally called on under performers being dropped for youth players selectively. In other words not playing 11 youths.

Look at the difference Murdoch makes to the midfield compared to Black. The difference here is Murdoch was given a chance early enough to get used to being in the team do that at this crucial stage he fits in. Had we done this with Gallagher, hardie, sinnamon, gasparotto et al then who can say for certain whether they would have been a Murdoch or an Aird?

Until a player gets a fair crack of the whip we can't truly judge them. We can all give an opinion based on gut instincts or limited sources of info e.g. Development team reports, how they played on loan etc. but the proof of whether they are good enough or not only comes when they get a chance.

Imagine the likes of man utds class on 92 if they never got a chance? Not that I am making direct comparisons to our youth but until they were played it wasn't a certainty they'd be good or bad.

The bottom line is that McCall and K Black have got these experienced players playing again and believing in themselves and that's why you can come on here saying where's all the people wanting youth played. I do take heart from Murdoch though and it just makes you wonder if he is the only bright light from the youth ranks or if there are other gems there too.

  15. He did well tonight and took his goal well.

However, if many poor games don't make him a bad player (according to some) then 1 good game doesn't make him a great player.

In saying that though I was really happy for him but also for the team, what a time to get the breakthrough.

  16. Boyd was part of a good team who created him chances. If Clark was part of those sides he would be scoring more. It's not really a fair comparison.

Not really a fair comparison I agree, however would the Boyd of 2006 scored that chance against qots on Sunday? I'd like to think that he would. Clark has missed too many easy chances now.

As for creating chances there were a good few created on Sunday, although vuckics pass that went behind Clark was what led to that move breaking down.

Clark frustrates me in that he gets into decent positions and whether he gets nervous, is trying too hard or just isn't good enough he tends to crack and can't find the net.

I want any player who tries that hard to succeed, just like with Sebo but sometimes you've got to see things as they are. Fair play to you for sticking up for him, if he turns out a success then qudos yo you but I think most feel he's just not going to cut it.

  17. Where's the critisism of Boyd and Miller who many said would score 50 goals this season?

You surely can't be serious.....theres one about Boyd right now.

Bottom line is we've been piss poor up front this year, hence Nicky law as our top goal scorer. No one can hide from that.
