mac444 6
NFL Draft is happening just now, anyone who can't watch (me included, NFL website is mega busy) can keep up here: http://www.nfl.com/draft/2009/tracker#dt-by-round-input:
Lando 249
Another useful link: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/draft I had to check this out because I wanted to see if Jason Smith (offensive tackle) of Baylor University is selected high in the draft. He is the #2 pick in the first round as he is selected by the St. Louis Rams. Matthew Stafford, QB from the University of Georgia is picked #1 by the Detroit Lions who was the first 0-16 team in NFL's history. As a graduate of Baylor University, it is really a great day to be a Bear.
ekbear93 3
What actually happens in the draft? If anyone could explain it simply then it would be appreciated as I know little about American football

If anyone could explain it simply then it would be appreciated as I know little about American football Basically Teams in the NFL select players from the US College system to play professionally in their team, the order the teams pick is based on worst 1st best last from the previous season. Try either http://www.nfl.com or http://www.nfluk.com they both have pretty good explanations of most things that go on in NFL
Lando 249
It is interesting to note that the first two picks- Michael Stafford (Highland Park) and Jason Smith (W.T. White) are from the Dallas, TX area. Michael Stafford opted to leave early as a junior instead of waiting for one more year. Jason Smith's stock rose rapidly in the NFL Combines where the scouts would assess the college players' strengths, personality, etc. He was projected to be #1, but it looks like the Detroit Lions needs a quarterback. I don't think their was much doubt that the top pick was going to be Matt Stafford, unless Detroit traded their pick, there was rumours that they offered a package to Denver for Cutler but obviously never happened

cam69r 8
Im a huge Buccaneers / NFL fan. Been to both Wembley games and going to this one but how bad are Buccs going to suck this year Releasing all veterans and signing another QB in the draft
rfc_no1fan 13
I'm happy with the 2 picks the Rams made in the draft today. Needed a replacement for Pace, got 1 (Jason Smith) Needed a middle linebacker, so that Witherspoon can move outside, got 1 (James Laurinaitis) Now tomorrow we must draft a WR to add depth and a NT to help the line and stop the run. Spags nows what he's doing, cant wait till the season starts

They better be decent, Im going back down to Wembley this year to see them vs Patriots
