brissyger 8
Original boxing matches dating back to Greek times took place in a circle or "ring" drawn on the ground in chalk. In the mid 19th century it was changed to a square I guess to accomodate different corners for the boxers or something but the name ring stuck. That's why nowadays it's known as the "square ring".
