What do the 6month 'jump in profits' mean?

Any clarification on todays announcement from people with ears closer to the ground?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/rangers/8520254.stm

Surely, in laymans terms, this means we're likely to reduce the debt to near 18M, this is a profit after all?

Another concern though must be the scum profits are down 22% to 36M, and ours are 36M for the same 6 month period... why arent we outstripping them when they didnt even have champs league football??? Its unlikely that we're gonna make any more than 36M with our current woeful merchandise and marketing abilities...

Smellik still have their own shops and outlets that adds a chunk to turnover, not necessarily huge profits. We lost around £15M / year on turnover by going to JJB, but increased profits on merchandise.

Does that mean it was the right decision to lose the shops though ?

both yes and no,

also most of the 13million profit will be used to pay interest on the debt, likely debt of 25million max at june this year

If its reducing fair enough, I'm concerned that there was no explicit mention of the debt reducing in johnstons statement... Saying that he's being more sensible than SDM and keeping his cards close until we're out of this season and the final champs league money arrives..

If we do win this league, and the tims get another seeded team similar to this years calamity then they wont be making the champs league again and our debt will surely reduce again. Silver lining and all that.

Johnson said on SSN that there was no need to pay back the debt quickly, as there is a plan with Lloyds to pay back the debt at £1m a year. He said that the money we had made had gone to pay £9m of players we still owed money for.

if thats the case, what are we announcing 13M profit if its still got deductions to come out of it.. its no wonder naebdy knows the full story with financial figures being reported like that..

Was the increase in merchandise profits greater or less then the 15mil lost on turnover? if less, then we should be thinking of changing our business dealings with JJB!

I believe, and financial experts on here will confirm, we make more money out of the JJB deal.

He said it's not worth using the money to reduce the debts because of the interest rate or something. We'll be paying it off at £1m a year.
