A spoonful of common sense for the SNP

Recommended Posts

As the dust is far from settling following this bill, I think we're at the beginning of a new wave of 'common sense' brigades. We've had the politically correct dictating from positions of power, trying to change the world over the past two decades. Now that we have reached the ultimate extreme, Scotland as a country can now allow common sense to operate in conjunction with political correctness.

The SNP have attempted to create a 'one size fits all' piece of legislation, covering everything that can be deemed 'sectarian' or 'offensive' in Scottish football. So as you all know, rather than identifying specific words and phrases, declaring everything that can be perceived as derogatory involving anything to do with football. A huge fishnet to control a 'problem' that they think is the number one priority in a country riddled with alcoholism, drug abuse, obesity, organised crime, etc. The intention is constructive, the method of using a 'one size fits all' piece of legislation is the problem.

Every football supporter in the world will use derogatory language towards their opposition and rivals, regardless of where and what circumstance. It's just the nature of the game. If it wasn't so intense, it wouldn't be the biggest sport in the world. It will never be stopped. Any football supporter will say anything to get one over on his rival or opposition, as the game itself is about winning and being better than your opponent! It doesn't matter what the actual content of the jibe, song or volley of abuse is. It will be derogatory. Comedians and writers make a lot of money out of making fun of a person or country depending on their characteristics or associations. Songs like the famine song, do just that. Light hearted banter to get one over on the opposition.

So to the SNP and population of Scotland, see the light and class us all as 90 minute bigots. Let us all (and I mean the mendicant bastards too - remember the nursery rhyme Sticks and Stones? They can't offend you or I if we don't let them and vice versa) sing and say what we want when it involves football by prioritising your policies and issues in your country more effectively. Or ban football. Its one or the other if you want rid of the 'problem'.

I did send an slightly edited version - you can guess which bracketed sentence - to the contact us email address on Scottish Gov't website. This reply followed.

Richard Foggo of joint action group replied with

'Mr Donaldson

Thank you for your email concerning the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Bill.  I have noted your concerns and we will use them to inform our policy as it develops.  Many thanks for taking the time to comment.'
